View Full Version : Snapped bolt (inside oil mixer)

As my threads have shown, I'm doing a bit of work on my KR-1S. I've learned that even though I feel quite the bike mechanic after a few Steinlagers, I'm really not.

I was mucking around with my oil mixer, and couldn't help but take it apart to see how it worked. It went back together alright until the *last* bolt.

It was one of those bolts with a hole through the thread which oil flowed through - and I managed to over-tighten it and snap it in two. Now one half of the bolt is stuck inside a thread in my oil mixer. Before I stuff anything up does anyone have a recommendation on how to approach this problem short of buying a new mixer?

As always, thanks for the advice given - hopefully after breaking enough stuff I'll be able to return it one day. Cheers.

What's an ''oil mixer''? At least you won't have to drill the bolt,it already has a hole down the middle.Use an easyout,you should find the bolt won't be tight and should just wind out.

itll be easy as-like motu said--use an easy out and itll come out easy as
that said--Id squirt a fair ol bit of wd40 or crc around the threads before doing it--just in case

As Motu says,it should be not that hard to get out,go & buy a easy out
By the way,the oil mixer is actually the "oil pump"

Yep, this would be one of the only times I'd recommend an easy out. Figure out what the thread is, you can probably modify a brake banjo to replace it.

Been there, done that.
Only it wasn't in the oil mixer, it was in the oil squirter thingo (technical term).
Them's expensive, them bolts with holes through the middle and in the side.

If you're going to use technical terms, try to get them right. It's not an "oil squirter thingo" it's an "oil squirter doohickey". No excuse for confusing a thingo and a doohickey.

Thanks all, a bit of WD-40 and it came out easy as. Now I'm off to the shop to see how much they charge for one of
them bolts with holes through the middle and in the side.
