View Full Version : A T-shirt idea for y'all

jrandom

The inspiration pixie just visited.

*I*, for one, would be very pleased to own a T-shirt with a motorcycle graphic captioned by the immortal words "RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT".

Now, I understand that this is likely to offend a certain segment of the population, and possibly even some members of this fine forum. To those people, I say, "phhhtbbbbbtttttbtbtbtbtbtbtbtbtbt".

I suppose there's the possibility that SpankMe would sanction the use of the site logo, but perhaps it would be better to maintain the purity of that particular graphic for use in actual KB T-shirts.

I'm thinking something in a similar style, though, would be good. Probably involving a wheelie.

If there's enough interest, I'll do the busywork of organising a screenprint run.

Comments?

I prefer a shirt with

' Will Wheelie for Boobs ' - like attached - or how about some of the others from

I would want a more personalised T-shirt. One that has the Kiwibiker logo etc but also has my user name across the back. I wouldn't mind forking out a bit more for that...

Yeah that probably isnt a bad idea there MR. Depending on the cost I would grab one of those aswell. I want to get a KB t-shirt of some kind.

Sound idea 'Random, however, I think "No Fear"would have something to say about it since they used this expression about 6 years ago.

Don't know if you can copy write a phrase though..

Friggin' stupid, that. Especially since they didn't dream it up in the first place.:Playnice:
Things that are very difficult to copyright:

Works that have not been fixed in a tangible form of expression. For example: choreographic works that have not been notated or recorded, or improvisational speeches or performances that have not been written or recorded.

Ideas, procedures, methods, systems, processes, concepts, principles, discoveries, or devices, as distinguished from a description, explanation, or illustration, titles, names, short phrases, and slogans; familiar symbols or designs; mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, or coloring; mere listings of ingredients or contents.

Ideas, procedures, methods, systems, processes, concepts, principles, discoveries, or devices, as distinguished from a description, explanation, or illustration.

Works consisting entirely of information that is common property and containing no original authorship.

However, like all things based in civil law, it is up to the party with the most money to try and get what they can out of court.

I guess there is a possibility that you could use a common phrase, if you could provide evidence that the phrase has been in common usage.

However I think if you tried to use "Just Do It", "The Real Thing", "Think Different" or how evere many small phrases you can think of you may find yourself in a whole pile of legal trouble.

How about 'Ride it like she's underage', or 'Ride it like her husband's coming home', or 'Ride it like you can give it back', or 'I Ride it like yo' Mamma'

Definitely like the first one w1. Personally, a little old lady getting offended by my t-shirt is just an added bonus to wearing it.

Yes you can. JUST DO IT. A Nike phase from a book title of simular name I think if my memory serves me correctly by Jerry Rubin; one of the Chicargo Seven. Now that shows my age. Any one remember them?

I like the KB logo but not the yellow background. If you go to one of the print shops in some malls they will do a personlise print with your name for you.

Did they? Bugger. I *thought* it was a good one.

Yup - I've seen it on a shirt.

Wouldn't want it myself... the red mist still starts rising when I think about my stolen bike... and that is getting on for three years this October.

As for copyrighting a phrase, guess you don't know that every time you say "Where shall we go today?", you should pay Bill Gates some money?

I was amazed to find that Microsoft (c) actually copyrighted that!

I like the idea of a Kiwibiker t-shirt as well... KB logo plus personalising if wanted (and if it doesn't cause problems in the print run of course). I'd also really like a KB polo shirt - that'll bump up the cost though.

Just remember the US does NOT create the rules for the rest of us. Just because they're silly enough to say that doesn't mean it applies anywhere else. Lindows is still allowed to be called such everywhere excluding the US.

But patent/copywrite/etc hypocricy/lunacy is a whole different thread.

I`ve seen "Ride it like you stole it" shirts in the bike mags here, also stickers on cars saying similar.Personally I`d go for "Ride it with due care and consideration for other road users,in compliance with all traffic laws and realising that courtesy and safety-awareness make the roads a more pleasant place for all of us",snappy huh?

A noble sentiment but it sounds like the message you see on the spare tyre cover on a jap import 4 X 4

Best one of those I see is simply "Pajero",why?Well in Europe they`re badged as Shoguns because Pajero is Spanish slang for "Wanker".Quite a few "Pajero"s beginning to come in as un-official imports though and I have a grin to myself when I see one of these things heading towards the Ferryport proudly bearing the Pajero tyre-cover,guess where the Ferry goes?I bet they come home thinking the Spanish are really nice, happy people and always smiling and laughing.

A few good shirts on www.105db.com or if you really want some attention try www.tshirthell.com

I've got the wasps one from 105db.

It'd take some coconuts to wear some of the "worse than hell" shirts.

We have done a few over the years. Made up a full set for a team that I was part of in the bad old days when we played Quake. Went by the names ( spice *.* ) They were around for years and stayed good for some time but as a rule they are not as good as screen printing. No very good when put on black shirts. Lets get it done properly.

funny you should mention it today, a regular customer (office girl, kinda hot, in the same way a busa is kinda fast) just came in wearing a no fear id tag holder (looks like a thick shoelace, goes around your neck has a clip on it) bearing that byline.

Completely unrelated but I just remembered an *excellent* T-shirt I saw last summer.

Walking up Kent Tce was this quite tidy, sorta' punky chick, wearing a really *fitting* t-shirt and written right across the breast area was.....

Given your location and that description, are you sure it wasn't a professional services advertisement?

I'd grab one if you organised gals ones too (ie. not all size XXL!) "0 demerits" is good but I reckon it needs something else after it. "Yeah right." is perfect but that'll have piles of copyright on it.

What about...

The KB bike logo with an upsidedown NIKE logo peeling off the back tyre, maybe a little speedo showing and ungodly speed and the words "Just Did It" in bold (maybe adding "Gunna do it again" could be a bit over the top)

I like OGRI! (from BIKE magazine)

Vicki and I have got a couple of them.

Some faves are.....
