Convicted rapist on run after kidnap charge
NZPA | Thursday, 8 February 2007

WANTED: Police are searching for convicted rapist Joe Hiro, 24, who jumped bail on a kidnap charge.

Police are appealing to the public to help track down a convicted rapist who jumped bail on a kidnap charge.

Hiro Joe, 24, was on parole after being jailed for six years for raping a 15-year-old girl in 2002.

He was charged with kidnap and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle following an incident on December 30.

He was granted bail by a judge on January 5 despite police opposition.

An order to recall Joe to prison was issued on January 15 and he failed to appear in Porirua District Court on January 30.

Porirua police said today the kidnap charge did not involve a sexual element and the alleged victim was known to Joe.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust said today said the case was another example of why parole should be abolished for violent and recidivist offenders.

Joe is a Pacific Islander, 180cm tall and of solid build. He has family and associates in the Porirua area.

Sorry, but I just can;t trust a guy who has a first name for a a last name. And he's a copper too.

If he is speeding, they might pull him over.
Criminal activity attracts little interest unless he has kidnapped a box of donuts...
