After over a year trying to buy a new bike I finally found one that is just perfect for me.

I can't remember where the thread was or what was being talked about but somewhere along the line crasherfromwayback mentioned in a thread that he had a ZX9R for sale at work. No more details than that and it wasn't my thread. For some reason I had a feeling that it would be my next bike.
PM and Peter McDonald of wellington motorcycles (crasherfromwayback) sent me a pic and a damn good price.
Because I am me and I never like to rush I thought about it for a week. I knew I was going to buy it. Just had that feeling.

So rung peter up and made the deal. Real good deal it was too.

I just had to get from Ashhurst to Wellington to pick it up now. Meanie was very accomodating and I jumped on the back of the mighty meanstreak and we were off. That was an interesting experience in itself. My first time ever on the back of a bike and it is with the lane splitting king. We got there though.

The bike had an issue with the front fork seals and Peter was up front about this striaght away and put the bike into the workshop to have it repaired so there was quite a long wait at the shop. We went for coffee and tried to be sophisticated wellingtonian look alikes but I don't think it worked.

Got the bike and got out of dodge. Rode up to Taitithi Bay to show the bike off to my sister and brother in law. Dont follow Meanie out as he had this going round in circles thing going on. Slight detour and went over piecock hill on the way home. As predicted I was pretty slow on the run over the hill. Just getting used to having no weight under me (the zx9r is soooooooooo light compared to the gsx6f) and having sooooooooo much power on tap.

So happy happy chap I am.

Many thanks to crasherfromwayback (Peter McDonald) from Wellington Motorcycles. Awesome guy to deal with and made life a whole lot easier.
And thanks to Meanie for giving me the lift down there. Even though I near ripped your indicators off at one stage and bit my toungue a couple of times. I won't say I couldn't have done it without you cause I would have crawled down to wellington on my hands and knees for the zx9r but you made it a hell of a lot more comfortable and entertaining.

kitty 600 is sitting in the garage. No idea what I am doing yet. Thoughts were to use it as a commuter to keep the ks on the 9 down but then the 9 would be sitting lonely in the garage all week. Probably sell but might just give it a little while to see if I really want to sell it.

You will see me AT the track. Not sure if you will see me ON the track. Pruned the money tree a bit hard for this new bike.

No problem cowboyz it was a pleasure although I was just a little nervous though that you might put your arms around my waste, may have looked a bit dodgy especialy with you in your leathers
Oh and in my defence i was sure there was a turn off just before that bridge before they changed the layout
Awesome bike by the way congrats

Yeah its green - but green + white + purple rims. Kawasaki had an off day. As soon as I glass and fill the scrapes out of it i'll be painting it a proper green. I'll chuck some photos as soon as I get my camera back, family borrowing the damn thing.

Had a few teething problems, electrics, back brakes, electrics, voltage regulator catching fire, electrics.... 10 tons of solder and insul tape later its pretty much good to go. Love it!

Could be down Palmy way over easter, hope some of you lot are around so we can go for a blat!

Nothing major, just some dodgy wiring additions and then the damn voltage regulator. I kept taping things off and it wasn't until I stopped being lazy and got the multimeter and soldering iron out that the problems stopped. Back brakes just needed new master cylinder seals, a giggle to fit when you've never worked with brakes before but all good. The voltage regulator is still poked but putting out just enough to keep the bike running so all good.

I seem to remember that last track day I was not going over to ride on the track. I was going over to watch dhunt. I might go do the camera thing anyway unless I can sell my body for the entrance fee between now and then.

Well done Cowboyz, what a beautiful looking bike! You passed me opposite direction yesterday and it sounded great as well! I can't wait to see it up close. Hope your money tree recovers soon!

Just south of Shannon, I was in my petrol Terrano. Speaking of money trees, that thing requires one of it's own for the amount of fuel it guzzles!

And I have a feeling that even if I'd been on my bike, you wouldn't have any difficulty chasing me down on that baby:yes:

I was just starting getting used to the weight of the bike then. That was fun.

Took Mrs Cowboyz out on it last night. She loved it just as much as I do. Looks like we have a keeper.

Good on you mate. That Gsf was giving the sophisticated Manawatu crown a bad name. That must feel sooooo much better.

Are you gonna paint the ZX a nice primer red?

Re, the old bike, if you can't get someone to take it away for you you could use it as a track bike.

cowboyz
12th February 2007, 13:31
i was thinking about that. but then I want to ride the 9. At one stage there I was going to commute on the 6 and ride the 9 on the weekends. That plan got tossed as soon as I rode the 9 from wellington home. Got a mate who is a spraypainter. He is going to paint up the gsx so it looks flash and then I will probably throw it down the road.. oops I mean throw it on trademe. Unless someone wants to take it off my hands for $1500 as is. Still rego still warrent. Good bike but not a zx9r.
