I went to the 2006 Rally for the first time. It was ok, the ride in and out is all class, Drinks and ramble are just a side bonus. I am still haunted by the jelly wrestling from last year..... mmmmm  it was not nice.

Any how, this one is on my list of to do's. and with that as long as nothing crops up to screw with that, I will be making that run.

:Punk: Rock On the Buller Gorge:rockon:

The Seddenville pub is just up the road.
Word has it, is that this is the venue for 2007, rather than the one noted on the entry form.
Check this link for Seddenville pub... all will be revealed I guess.

What makes you say that its at the Seddenville pub GB? There's only one pub at Mokihinui and it isn't the Seddonville pub...

Doubt if I'll be going anyway as it clashes with the Off the Rails rally down at Middlemarch.

Decision is pretty easy really, done Mokihinui two years wasn't impressed (gotta love the Buller Gorge though), Wheatsheaf is too close to home, that leaves Off the Rails

I have no reply at all, strange...I would not have thought it would have taken so long to send a quick reply... It's a bloody tough call, now seeing as this Off the rails is on too the same weekend. I live the coast, just the area it self is so "HOME" but then something different is appealing to, especailly never have been to the Middlemarch area.... so I will be scratching me head a little I think.

So who’s going to this now that it’s established it doesn’t clash with the “Off The Rails” rally.

I’ve never done this one and there’s some great roads to ride getting to and from so …

My plan at this stage is to head over Arthurs after work on the Friday and stay with a mate near Greymouth, leaving Chch around 1730. Saturday - ride up the coast to Karamea, then back down to the rally site for the night. Sunday - home via Buller Gorge to Murchison, stop for a feed there, then back track 12km to State 65, on to Springs Junction and over Lewis Pass to home.

As for me I'm not sure as money a bit tight for 3 or 4 weeks as we had an unplanned bill.

381.49km from the centre of chch... the buller gorge is always worth the ride, as is the lewis pass. oh and it could take around 4 hrs... but that all depends..
They were different jelly wrestlers... one girl and some guy

Bumpity Bump:whocares: .... Yeah, I've been thinking there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in this one. I haven't been before, so I'm looking forward to it. I was planning to leave after work on Friday, but I'm now heading away a bit earlier, maybe 2.30 Friday and catch up with friends in Kumara on the way through to my mates near Paroa for the night. What time do you reckon you'll be on site on Saturday, I'll keep a look out for the Griso. I don't know when I'll be on site after the Saturday run up to Karamea and back, but I'd like to be there by 2pm to catch the bike show and so on - I assume they do all that kind of stuff there.

Anyone else from here going?

Heading over Friday arvo the weather was great heading up to Arthurs, turned to drizzle at Arthurs which turned to rain heading down to Otira. Spent the night near Greymouth and woke to rain pissing down, so I hung around watching the weather to see what it was going to do and as it looked liked it was clearing up and had actually stopped raining I headed off at midday to see what it was like further up the coast. Just as I took off it started pissing down again – oh well, I’m on the move now so kept going. Varied between drizzle and rain all the way to Westport, but was fine and sunny at Westport itself so I figured I must be into the good stuff now and decided to carry on to the rally. Just up the road – pissing down again – what the hell I’ve come this far, I may as well carry on to the site now and hope for a dry spell while I put the tent up.

Sure enough it was fine when I got there, but I got a bit of a shock at the state of the paddock we we’re expected to ride through and camp in - mud, puddles, uneven ground, long wet grass. Found GB and built my home for the night. The weather was actually quite good for the afternoon, and the evening saw the stars and moon come out. Had a good night with GB, MyGSXF & TWR. It pissed down later in the night after I’d gone to bed, and bucketed down while I was packing up the next morning.

The ride home was drizzle or rain until 30km or so past Springs Junction when the roads started to dry out and the fun factor increased immensely.

The wet T comp was good and bad! Bad in that there was only one competitor – Good in that since there was only one competitor she automatically won and so didn’t have to take the T off. She wasn’t flash, I’m still not sure if she had her teeth in or not. No photo’s of her, I couldn’t coerce my camera to come out the bag for her.

The jelly wrestling was … interesting. 3 blokes and 2 women in the pool together, all clothed. The best bit was the big belly flop one of the guys did into the pool at the end, showering all the front row of spectators in jelly.

Overall … it was different. I’m pleased I went, although all the wet took some of the gloss of it, that also adds to the memories of it. Yes, I’d go again, but only with a better forecast next time.

Here’s some pics …
1. What!? You want me to ride through that :gob:
2. Nah it doesn’t look any better from this side either

Thanks for that Joni. I just wanted to clarify what the info on the calendar was.. to check IF it was correct, or not.. OR, if they were talking about the change of venue.. Many people had an entry form stating the rally was still being held at the original Mohiukinui site, & a lot of confusion happened because of the venue change! as is evident on the early pages of this thread. All is cleared up now though, with checking the link you just put up.. yes, there was a boo boo made when the calendar entry was done.

Woke, fed, and had a cupper. Got on the road about 7.50am. Nice and early, road was pretty clear. This rally was the first of the summer season ones for me ever. And the first time to get out on my New Griso back in 2006.
Traffic drew to a stand still in Amberley, oh no, traffic breath testing,:Police: and did I have one cupper T to many this morning? Fortunately I was let through while he was having discussions with some bogan.
So warm it was. Up to 25 degrees around Culverdon. Heading up past Hanmer the wind got pretty gusty. Dark cloud and a rainbow bought it home that I was heading westward.
Crossing the Hope River was where the speckles became drops. I had a moment passing a car on a clear bend where the rear skipped on the white line getting past, felt awesome and mega sideways, though I am sure it hardly sideways at all. Lewis was when my crutch started feeling rather cool, it was only 12degrees up top:cold: , and my Dri rider was not playing the game, water was coming on in. Even the Dri Rider boots that I had treated the night before did not last up. This West rain has got cunning!:dodge:
Getting down into the Buller Gorge mid morning, the water was thick; there were a couple of moments I felt James Bond’ish, transforming into a jet ski. I was sure the tires were not touching the road!!!!
Westport was fuel and a lotto ticket. A trip to the Cemetery to visit my grandparent’s grave was a nice peaceful moment. Memories of white baiting, gold panning, historical walks and stories of those good old days in the gold and coal mines, awesome people they were.

Then off to Seddonville to find this new site. And damn it was a new site alright!! Umpty Bumpty and wet! It was here I wish I could do that magical Mission Impossible 2 tire swap as in the movie.

Tent up, couple of drinks down:apint: , quick walk about, and power nap time. Awoken by the rattle of far queues Ducati... As the afternoon drew on the place filled up respectably given the rain. There was no complaints heard by my ears about the rally like the Hororata.
The weather cleared later in the arvo, and for much of the evening, great to see and talk to the people. The food was yummy, dug into a fish and bread, and pottle of chips.
There was a mixture of music. A lady with a karaoke set up, but played some great music without the karaoke singers, and a couple of bands did there thing.
The moon and stars made an appearance. A bonfire was lit to warm those that were cold, and dry those that were wet. The jelly was kinda scary and funny, hopefully my video will enlighten, but the silly bugger who let himself get his back clawed by that girl…. Oooouch!
Late (who knows what time) the body was feeling weary and in need of sleep, grabbed a cupper T, and oh how nice it was. Back to the tent for 40winks.
The rain was Chubby Rain!!!! And damn it, all my gear leaked:eek: , and now the tent let at let a few droplets in!!!!
The awakening was nice and clear, went out for a cupper, damn it was nice, wandered the site, contemplating the porta loo’s yes no yes no…. noooo.
I had all that time to pack up the tent and gears, but did I, nup!!!. No I left it until the rain was pissing down, and get everything wet. All in all with being a new venue, the crew were happy and friendly folk, just as you would expect on the West.
I’ll be back for sure. If ya didn’t go this year, or never before, give the damn thing a bash, wet of fine, it’s all divine.

The road back through the gorge and to Springs Junction was wet, the sad thing being the Buller gorge is so nice, yet I have never ridden that in the dry. It was after Springs where FQ got up the pace:ride: , there were times when he sure got some good distance between us. Excellent ride into warm dry weather.
Getting home was a relief; put the tent and all gears out to dry in the sun.
Awesome rally.

Hoping to get to the “Off the Rails” gig in a few weeks.:scooter:

Well things started pretty well, meeting up with MyGSXF on the Friday night in ChCh at a mate's place. Had a good feed & a few drinks :innocent: and contemplated what we were going to do with a certain person's rear tyre :oi-grr: . Up at 5am on Saturday to a still morning so things were looking nice apart from the others who were :zzzz:
Roll on to 8am & it's time to starting tracking down a tyre, managed to locate one at a particular parts dealer close to JADE  so it's arranged & MyGSXF takes off there to get tyre fitted whilst we packed up ready to depart on her return. 1hr later the trusty GSX400F rolls up the drive with Jen saying it's handling really weird, I have a quick nosey & :gob: the tensioners are hanging free of the swingarm & the axle nut was only just past finger tight! (Fuckers need their arses kicked for letting a bike out of the workshop like that!).

Once that was sorted we're off heading West, a ZXR, GSXF, & Meanie geared up and peeling off the Kms away from ChCh into a stiff norwester & a angry looking sky. Once past Springfield the roads were a bit dampish but the clouds were parting. Rolling along at reasonable pace we wound our way through porters pass to the alpine vistas of the main divide, striking only a breif shower of rain before Arthur's pass village. A quick feed there then off towards Greymouth for fuel, being caught by 5mins worth of rain just out of Jacksons.
Leaving Greymouth we seemed to be following the remnants of the rain and drying roads so the pace settled into a nice wee romp up to Westport stopping for the odd piccy along the way. On getting to Westport it was a quick fuel-up & check over, then off to Seddonville & the rally.
At the rally site we did the usual sign-in & roll upto the camping area :shit: (mud-city) so it was park the bikes up with the others on the side of the road Le mans style, throw the gear off & set up camp on any bits of high ground that could be found. After priming the boilers for the nights entertainment it was off to see what was happening & more food, where we caught up with FQ & GB.
The nights entertainment was pretty good for the size of the rally, the music was good (apart for one group murdering a few of their songs), the Wet T comp
fark I'm glad that thing didn't break those monsters out  , the jelly wrestling was a cross between an all-in brawl & aggressive foreplay  the 1st group in were funny with one chick coming away with a good bleeding nose & one drunk old bugger sporting a knackered hip, the 2nd couple (in the pic below) probably carried on afterwards in private .
The rain set in around 11pm and come 2am the majority of campers were heading for shut-eye

Waking early to the sounds of bikes puddling their way past the tents it was psych yourself into get moving mode, a wee while later I managed to stick my head out the tent (see the pics below), Oh well wait a little bit longer in doors ( having my mate inform us that he was off & would catch-up on the road), finally around the 10ish mark it was time to get up and rolling. Surprisingly the last couple of bikes to leave the site  though all the packing up was done in the sunshine :sunny: and the ride back through to Westport for brekkie was clear also.

A quick fuel top-up & it was time to find food (recommend Gebbie's Cafe', great feed). Then off into the threatening looking hills & up the Buller gorge, with damp roads and finally the odd shower of rain further up towards Murchison ( bloody great piece of road even in the damp) about the only let-down through there were the cars. Stopping at Murchison for Lunch and seeing MyGSXF off on her homeward leg to Nelson. I set off back towards Springs Junction watching the clouds as I went, only to be greeted by a grey wall not far from Maruia, so a quick stop & on with the wets.

A Km down the road & I was into genuine westcoast rain:eek: , with it only stopping at Springs. stopped for a quick checkover and then off into the pass which wasn't looking flash. Road through heavy fog (cloud) through Maruia Springs & over the actual pass only to have it clear to some of the best views I've seen up through there :Punk: and fresh drying roads:woohoo:
so after a quick piccy stop I was into fast cruise mode to get home only for it to almost all come unstuck 10mins down the road
Just through by where the NZDA have their hut the road is a continuous series of 65-75-55kmh corners of rolling ground, I came barrelling into a slight up-hill 65kmh right hander at somehwere near 120 & had both wheels let go mid corner  managed to hold onto the slide for it to grab again into a good headshake and finally got back into line (could have been a good minties moment, and definitely would have looked good from behind).
Regained my composure and rolled into Culverden a wee while later with Southwest winds & showers cheerfully guiding me into Christchurch, The last leg into town with roads wet but no rain was a bastard with road spray on the visor & darkness setting in
The homeward run from ChCh to Chertsey was almost on auto pilot setting but I'd do it all again tomorrow :Punk:

great weekend

Whadda weekend!!!!!!!!! :Punk:

Just over 1000ks added to the clock!! Set off for ChCh Friday 12.30ish.. with the weather looking decidedly dodgy.. for the whole weekend.. Having loaded up the mp3 with a heap of new sounds, I was a rockin down the road, & chewing up the k's at a great pace!!

Between home & Murch, passed a shit load of bikes heading the other way.. the Ducati Club I believe..? Fuel stop at Murch, then onto a girlfriends for a cuppa & goss catchup at Maruia. Quick fuel topup at Springs.. again, bikes in all directions! Weather was behaving itself, so the wets stayed tucked inside their pannier! Awesome run up & over the Lewis, & onto Culverden. Rocked into Hornby, ChCh just on 6.. so actually made bloody good time this trip!

T.W.R arrived a while later, had a good feed.. cheers M, a few drinks & contemplated what to do with a certain persons rear tyre.. :innocent: Morning came.. far too early.. & I was sent on a mission into town to replace said dodgy tyre.. was all going well.. till the ride back to Hornby.. that was 'interesting'... anyways.. was smartly sorted upon my arrival! thanks sweety.. !!! loaded up & off we went!! a ZXR ,GSXF & a 1600cc Meanie.. (still reckon it was compensating for something... )

Heading towards Arthurs direction.. I got a taste of what I DON'T miss about my years in ChCh.. <_< ferkin wind!!!! died down a little as we got further into the hills.. but the clouds looked dodgy as hell & copped a bit of rain before Arthurs Village. Stopped there for a much required feed, then carried on our way. The 'brief shower of rain' near Jacksons, already mentioned.. to put it into perspective.. I could 'feel' each raindrop.. THROUGH my leathers AND padded wet weather suit!!! here's me riding along.. gritting my teeth & thinking.. hhmm.. GREAT conditions to be breaking in a lovely SHINY SLIPPERY new tyre.. NOT.. bloody glad to have it tho.. coz the 'other' tyre might have lead to a slightly more 'interesting' ride

Out to Kumara & up to Greymouth.. basking in sunshine, & peel off the layers of wet weather gear! Awesome run up the coast to Westport, with a few piccy stops to admire the gorgeous scenery!! Another fuel up & on up to Seddonville.. here in after to be known as Mudville.. I got to the GATE of the camping paddock.. or swamp.. & went noooooo further!!!! backed up the bike & parked on the side of the road.. stuff trying to manouver through THAT for a joke! :oi-grr:

Found the last remaining patch of ground & set up camp. Scored a new tent recently.. with a huge vestibule (that's a 'porch' for you Northern lot.. :Pokey: ) & was bloody thankfull for it.. coz FARK did our gear get MUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway.. charged me mug & headed off in search of people & food! Bumped into GB & FQ at the food tent.. so both 'people & food' were sorted simultaneously!!

Proceeded to have a VERY enjoyable evening.. also catching up with several of my Nelson crew (not kb'rs) & a couple from my old gsx250 days over in Motueka, from many years ago!! Several of my Plains Club also made an 'appearance'.. but the bloody PIKERS had opted for a 'bed' in Granity.. :bash: so buggered off early!

The wet T was SCARY.. the jelly wrestling.. a mass orgy.. but the music was great!!! The bonfire & moon made for some interesting pics, with FQ helping me sort out some features on my camera!! Cheers FQ!!!

Started bucketing down about 11pm ish & the crowd filtered out. I had an early one & headed off bout 2! Trying NOT to break my neck crossing the quagmire on the way back to our tent!!

1) Bikes parked outside Arthurs Pass cafe.. great feed!
2) T.W.R posing, looking up the West Coast
3) My fav pic of the bonfire!

Sunday dawns.. faaarrrr to early.. tis grey & pissing down!!!!! & all around are the sounds of people packing up & buggering off.. in the rain!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was a weee bit of a worry though.. as the tent was parked RIGHT next to the exit gate..( only patch of ground we could find to set up on!!!!) & the going was treacherous, to say the least.. so was half waiting for a bike to 'land' on us.. :shit:

Stayed indoors.. not wanting to venture out in the rain.. until.. whadda ya know.. it stopped raining.. the clouds started breaking up.. & the :sunny: graced us with it's warmth!!!! was entertaining to watch the last few bikes leaving.. making their way out the gate through the mud.. but hey.. bloody Harley tractors can plough through anything aye!! :dodge: we were the last 2 bikes to leave the site!! Had a clear run to Westport for 'breakfast' at 12!!

Mostly clear run through the lower Buller to Inangahua.. then hit patchy rain most of the way out to Murch.. bugger! tyre was still a bit tweeky in places through there too.. parked up in Murch for a cuppa, along with warmed up & dried out in the sun! Said faretheewell to T.W.R, as he headed off into a very black looking sky.. cranked up the mp3 again, & headed towards home. Had a dry run up & over the Hope Saddle & Spooners, & was greeted by 2 very happy little people!

All in all.. a wicked weekend.. despite the weather.. a 'character building' trip, I'd say!! apparantly the Meanie ran rather wide trying to catch me round one of the tight 25k corners heading up the coast!!

Great to catch up with GB & FQ again.. & cheers for the drink GB!! (might have to make it a BOTTLE.. for the Oil win this time... )
