Easter Egg and Toy Run
Tauranga, Sunday 1 April 2007
Once again this year, the Tauranga branch of the Ulysses Motorcycle Club are organising the Easter Egg and Toy Run, to be held this year on Sunday 1st April. ALL bikers are very welcome, and it would be especially cool if a whole bunch of fellow KBers could join us.
The route is the same as last year, i.e.
Bayfair Shopping Centre > Girven Road > Oceanbeach Rd > Marine Parade > Adams Ave > The Mall > Salisbury Ave > Maunganui Road > SH2 (at Bay Park) > SH 29 > Barkes Corner > Cameron Rd (re group opp District Council Offices) > Hospital
Assemble from 9.00am, departure at 12 noon. 525 bikes last year - a good cause and a GREAT ride!
Queries? PM Shafty or e-mail pete@funbus.co.nz

Cheers for the info.......
For those not in the Tauranga area...... just how long is the actual fundraiser ride?
Are there badges available etc... and what cost?
How come meet up at 9am and not leave on the ride for another 3 hours?
That seems a long time to hang around...... just asking...... not picking...

Hi Crashe, good questions: The ride takes you from BAyfair on a circuit of Mount Manganui, then over to Tauranga on the inland route (ie, not the Bridge). Then via Greerton to Hospital. Takes about 45 minutes due to the huge number of bikes. It's a cool ride with Highway Patrol and Club MArshalls stopping traffic for you as the parade passes.
Bikes trickle in from 9am, - many park up, wander off for breakfast (Bayfair has many food options, toilets, shopping) then wander back to enjoy the 500 + bikes assemble - quite a carnival atmosphere. A good time to catch up with riding mates and to meet new ones!
I hope this clarifies. See you there?

Hi Bungy Mungy, - the idea is to bring an EAster Egg or toy for us to deliver to the Kids in hospital. You can buy a cheapie at Bayfair on the day to donate, - there is no judgement on what you donate.
Hope we see you there!

Good one Highlander, see you there. The run ends up at the lower Hospital car park BTW. You don't need to know where to go though, just stay with the other 600 + bikes and you'll be right.
After the event (and not part thereof) a drink may be in order.
If it is, I'm told the Worlds End, Fraser Cove is very handy.........

Gidday Highlander, - whatever you decide Mate, there's no snobbery or expectation, anything given is really apprecaited. I usually buy 1 decent size one, less than 10 bucks certainly. Come up and say gidday on the day, - I'll be there early, Red ST with a RIDER seat, parked up the front somewhere, and will be marshalling in a flouro vest.

Yeah, last year the Hospital said they'd like cash instead of Easter Eggs. That didn't appeal. So, as a concession, we're calling it the Easter Egg and Toy Run, so people have a choice.

It amazes me what some folks will donate - there were the most beautiful soft bunny toys there last year (I wanted one!). I also got the pleasure of handing out some of the toys and easter eggs last year and it was very fulfilling. It's all about who you know :Punk:
On the books vs chocolate vs toys thing - this flexibility is a great idea. Some of the kids/patients might be nil by mouth or they can't eat truckloads of chocolate :sunny: I've bought many little easter eggs because the smaller kids can't get through the big ones.
As per usual I'm going to be there giving everyone a bit of shit (and posing with the RSV) so I hope to see you all there! It would be coooooooool for KB to make an appearance and support the community.

They don't necessarily do 100 in the 100km zone. Remembering that half of the ride is to pose, so people need to see the bikes. No hooning for you! :innocent:
I think they've got better in recent years and go a bit faster. At the run about five years ago, the cop at the front was doing 30 in the 100 zone (30, fark that!!!). My VTR reached over 100 degrees and the cooling fans were blasting

A couple more pics showing how the car park starts out and how it fills up! A seperate area for KB'ers is a good idea, but easier said than done, depending on what time you arrive. If you want to park together, park at the Girven Road end of the carpark, next to where you see us directing the Trikes to gather. Remember this is a badge run, with badges available for $10 proceeds to the TECT Rescue Helicopter ( which occaisionally picks up fallen Bikers!) - and a lucky badge draw with a helmet and other prizes drawn just before the "start your engines" message, plus any donation of Easter Eggs or toys going to hospitalised kiddies.

Yes Guys, the run is started by Tauranga's Mayor at 12 Noon; People start arriving from 9.00am. How about me supplying a yellow balloon for every KB'er who turns up to tie on their bike? - that would give a good visual of how many KB'ers there are among the group.
Let me know what you think. If the consensus is YES, I will have a Marshall at the entrance to the bike area with balloons and string. You could even take a marker pen and write your KB name on it! (You'll have to do your own inflating!!)

Sounds like a good idea 1/4, but we'll be exiting thru there and have provided dedicated parking for the expected 600 bikes on the Maunganui Rd side of the front car park, safe from cages keen to knock over your precious scoot!

Probably not, depends how the young fella on the back is holding up.

Cameron from Worlds End has been in touch - "club prices" for anyone on the Easter Run who turns up there - in their own time, and not associated with the run whatsoever. Use your helmet as ID!!

It was a good ride, plenty of pissed off looking car drivers at most of the intersections though lol.
Our balloon flew off along Oceanbeach Road, and the temp gauge went higher than it's been before around the base of the Mount / Pilot Bay, then at the Bayfair roundabout, bit of a worry as I had taken the radiator off during the week and flushed it out ... hoping I had done up all the hose clips properly heh, all was good though!
I wonder if the 50k speed camera by Blake Park was working, not many were doing 50k's when we went past it ...
I reckon the pictures will look awesome.

I don't have any pics, didn't have a camera. :(
The lower hospital carpark was just right for the meeting area, much better than all trying to fit up by the Hospital as in past years
Edit: Thanks for all the organisation Pete, it was a pleasure to be a part of the occasion.

I was thinking about the run this morning, it must be a logistical challenge to organise.

Yeah, 3 years in a row is enough, The Run is in good hands! Some pics attached. Final count of bikes was 670 (we were trying to beat 525!!). Seeing the TECT Helicopter overhead as we left Bayfair was cool, - thanks a bunch to all who supported such a successful ride and a great cause.

I took heaps of pics, but most of them are of just motorbikes that i thought were cool. One or two overview kinda photos at Bayfair. Other than that, yeah, just cool bikes ( anything without fairings mainly lol )
EDIT; Actually no, there is only one sort of cool fairing, the bullet fairings on the old ducati
