Subject: From Transit re Ulysses Motorcycle Club

Good afternoon

Please find below the statement I gave to TV1 regarding the Ulysses
Motorcyle Club. If you wish to talk to me about this, I am happy to do so.

The traffic management required to run an event of this scale is
significant, simply because of the volume of traffic on Auckland's
motorways. We need to minimise any risks and ensure the safety of all road
users. The solution that Transit, the Police and the Club came to this
year was that the Police supervised the closure of the required motorway
on-ramps on the route. The Police also managed the three main on-ramps, with
club members acting as marshalls at the other on-ramps. This worked
extremely well - probably better than ever before. As a result of the
success of this traffic management plan, if the Club plan to run the event
in future then we would be happy for a similar arrangement to occur and it
would be unlikely that there would need to be additional traffic management.
This would mean that, as in the past, all of the funds raised by the event
would continue to go directly to the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.

Thanks

Joseph

It'll probably take a while before they finish processing it, just have to be patient.
Sorry about the quality, the TV1 reception isn't the best here.

That's excellent news. Hopefully I'll be able to get a comfy seat sorted for Mrs Surfer, the current one is a tad uncomfy and then she'll be able to go on the ride too.

Must remember to take my magic mojo next time as well for the spot prize draw  .

Despite all the comings and goings - who backed down, who is to blame etc... thanks to the Ulysses organisers for persisting.

I'll be there in '08

Edit - thanks to the cops as well... I know - it's your job but I'm sure I saw some of you guys/gals go above and beyond on this one

I second that, go the Ulybods who put so much work into this every year and good on ya coppers who support and make this the safest and largest charity run in the country.
I will be there next year and supporting this as I usually do.

PS Hovel, was that you I saw on Onewa road having 'a wee chat' with the local constabulary the other day????

Just slightly off topic ... who's first in line to kill sideline barry ???
You would think they could have picked a better person to interview ... good grief ..

Couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. Thanks, and well done to everyone involved with the organisation, operation and negotiation. I'll definitely be joining in again next year.

I thought the interviewer did a marvellous job of setting him up, they probably couldn't have found a more willing person. You never know they may have edited out any credible worthwhile stuff that he may have said.
