You are mad doing those hours .. but you also may be paid for them ... e.g. contractor with good rates ....

I have read research that people become less effective after 50 hours a week .. but I used to do 60+ and was fine .. most of the time ...

Now I am on a salary .. I word no more than 50 and mostly around 40 hours per week, I also don't like my team to work more than 40.

Sometimes have to put in some longish weeks. But then often get a week or 2 off inbetween jobs being a lazy boss has its advantages. Also charging dubble that anyone else in town charges helps :)

Not unusual for me to do 80 hour weeks. Shows a damn good work ethic in those that do 55+ hours a week in my opinion, you soon weed out the wimps who want easy money

37.5 standard for the salary but probably an hour or two more than that. Good news is that the extra hours are given back as time in lieu. Good employer, mine.

Mine varies cause I'm on a shift roster. Some weeks can be 50+ others can be 10-20. It averages out to 40 though and so thats sweet. If I wanted I could probably work another job and constantly do 70 hours a week but neither have the motivation or need for it. Happy as things are.

Every week is different....some weeks can be 5am - 7pm daily inc. weekends and other weeks can be an hour or two a day....by the end of the year it all pans out more or less pretty reasonably and I get paid salary so its kinda crunchy with the smooth...

When I was contracting (till October of last year) I would average 12hr 6 days a week, but was known to do the odd 90hr .... got to make it $$$$ while its there!!
Now on wages so average 9.5hr a day 5 days a week, and get this .... I now get paid if I'm sick  and they even pay me to go on holiday :gob: 4 weeks every year... (Pay is half of what i was bringing in ... but if you take away the tax, ACC and non paid holidays I'm only slightly worse off... but now I get to see my daughter grow up :innocent: Did I mention that I get paid to go on holiday? oh and no stress  on wages

17hrs of lectures
5hrs of tutorials
20hrs of Community Service
24hrs at Job A
11hrs at Job B

and meant to do 10hrs per week study per paper, so with no study I do
77 hours with the study I should be doing is about 133 hours :gob:

Not that bad though I enjoy it all, my old job at the bank often saw me
doing about 100 hours per week, but being a commission job it made it worthwhile

I'm on the same wicket as you... If I do overtime and it's chargeable to the client, I get paid half of what we charge out. This usually equates to $50 an hour.

No. A non-profit organisation that cares for adults with intellectual disabilites. http://www.hohepa.com/canterbury.html
They used to work all sorts of hours but decided that it was not good for people in that industry to work excessive hours so restructured everyone's hours to a sensible limit.

Over the years my job has allowed for flexibility which is great, when I have needed time off, holidays or otherwise then things have worked everytime, but it is all give and take, sometimes I may do 9-10 hour days for the week, and others maybe slightly less, as long as the job is done with nothing left unfinished then there is rarely any problems. For 14 yrs of my job I worked 12 days on and 2 off, hard to get used to, but hard to get used to having more weekends off since my change in division. I think I might have ramble a little off topic here.... ha ha ha :innocent:

Bloody hell, you guys are keen.
I work about 37 hours a week cos i got better stuff to do than sit in front of a computer. Like riding my bike or surfing or sailing. And weekends are never spent in the office.

I might have to do a bit more once our house is built, maybe another hour a day if the surfs not up.

37.5 a week, on salary.

When I was on wages I used to do ~50 hours most weeks, I think the most I ever did was about 90 but that was a one off.

im self employed so i work my own hours so if the kids have something on i will go to that the only down side is when im not working im not earning

Same here - and it varies heaps, depending on the time of the year. Around March/April there are heaps of reports to proof and I can work 40-60 hours per week. Other times can be quiet and I may sometimes do no work at all in a week, or just a few hours. Occasionally I work weekends or evenings, but most of the time my work is carried out between 9am and 4pm.

And when I take on the odd contract job, that usually means a standard 37.5 hour week and no weekends.

The old not working/not earning bit is a bitch though! No sick pay or paid holidays either... but the best part is, no boss!

I spend about 40-ish hours at work most weeks, sometimes less, occasionally (if there's a deadline and I've got behind) up to 60.
But usually I only work for a couple of hours.
I get bored very quickly...

I work 42 - 45 hours per week. I would love to work only 3 days and have a 4 day weekend each week, there are so many other things I enjoy doing besides being work. I have seem the effects long work hours with to much stress can have on someone I used to be close to and its not pretty. There needs to be a balance.

Working 100 hours does not leave much time to play, with 168 hours per week avalible, that means you have 68 hours left per week to fit in the rest of your life, 9.71 hours per day including Saturday and Sunday to have some fun, get some excercise, have at least one good meal, do chores, bond with those humans that are important to you, relax and unwind and get a good nights sleep. Guess it all depands on priorities and which activities you want to compromise on.

I do 40 at my full-time job and then as many as are required for my second job as your local, friendly Avon lady (ding dong! LOL).

Normally around 55 a week in total, but about to ramp that up as I try to build the Avon up to help us out while I'm off on maternity leave.

Anyone need an Avon supplier??? LOL

37.5, at least an hour for lunch, come and go whatever hours I please, life, health, surgical, income protection insurance, 4 weeks a year leave... you cats are crazy working 60+ hours a week!!!! I get a salary, so leaving early to ride, or turning up late hung over, doesn't dock my pay. I've had to work late twice, or maybe three times in the last 18 months.

Hey, I'm in the 40 to 60 hr week bracket. Basically factory work. Did 10 years self employed (Orchardist). Wouldn't do it again, Leave work l forget about it, the moment I see my relief. Have more time for my toys might pay more in Tax as can't write income off against expenditure, anymore And the endless compliance BS and watching the TV only for the weather forecast. But Acc is more as a wage earner no stress except monotonus boredom. I've got betta toys now and have 6 weeks paid leave a year (Shift worker) am able to go to almost any rally anywhere in the country as I please. Ambition only pays those at the top end of a bell curve. Oh Did I mention company super and mortgage free. Just checking ferry sailings f..k cheap sailings gone for the March Hare. Bit of O/T should cover it aye! .

i'll also put in Bruce's... he worked around 40 hours at SDV.... then another average of 38-40 at hell.... somewhere he managed to fi in track days, rides, helping fix other people's bikes... and spending time with me.... but then, I dont think he ever slept... the 2 hours i'd sleep from him getting home from Hell and getting up to drive to taupo for the day he would lie awake thinking about stuff.....

I have 2 jobs.... One of which I do a 40 hours during weekdays.... My 2nd job the hours depend.... But I usually end up doing 60-70 hours all up... Over 7 days a week.....

The good thing is that my boss at the bar knows when I'm tired and knows when I need to take a whole weekend off... Which happens once in a while... Just so I can recharge and start the whole process over again...

I work those hours not because I have to.. But because I want to... I've found my health has been so much better since I took on longer hours.... I sleep easier... And eat ALOT more which has been fantastic for me.... There are things I would like to own in life and so working harder in order to have those things is a must.... Once I reach my target I'll then cut back on my hours and relax....

Til then....

i work 5 on 4 off 10.5 hr shifts permanent nights (broken by 1 week day shift in 16). more otis than you can handle, no pressure to do any though. not uncommon to do a run of 7 on 2 off for a month but usually trashed after that. i fly one full day in my days off - 6 hours flying yesterday, and sometimes put in a few hours flying before work doing sunset jumps. i also fly a medivac plane when needed.

this year will be 2080 normal hours, with about 350 o/t on top, but i have done (worked) a month in aussie and 3 weeks in the states, and had 5 weeks holiday, 3 of those in the uk. life's not too bad - at least i don't have to break my holidays and days off by having to go to court and watch the wheels of justice slowly turn

For years my husband and I built up a business. The business became 24 hrs a day. One point we worked long crazy hours 7 days a week for about 8 months (never again). Then just long hours 5 -6 days a week. the business was not in a position at that time to employ people, so there was no choice but to do it all ourselves.

I don't really know how many hours a week I work these days. It can still get crazy for me but I have weekends off and mornings or afternoons off if I feel like it. The business is more of a lifestyle than work really.

I'm a full time mum to three kids. Two at school during the day, one who is two. I would say, I work 24/7 because I am always on call. There a weeks, esp during winter, when I dont even leave the house, because they get sick or whatever. Nope dont get paid either. Am looking for a part time job at the moment, so I can get out of the house and have more adult contact. The worse thing is I dont get sick leave.

I had a window into that feeling a few years ago when I was babysitting my 6 month old niece at my house. I had a wopping migraine headache and felt ill and just wanted to sleep etc. But I had a grizzly child to tend to.

It got me thinking about fulltime mums .... who are only human and get sick at times....they still have to be a mum and submit to childrens demands regardless of if they are feeling so ill they can hardly lift a finger.

Hats off to all you mums and dads that go it alone or that have no choice when they are ill.

I am at work about 40 hours a week, but I only "work" less than half that time. There's a heap of waiting around for customers, and there's nothing to do but clean things that are already clean, or do a crossword. I guess that's why I'm being paid $12 an hour.
