OK, my front Sport Demon is getting very feathered. Since I'm new to all of this, I really haven't any idea of what this means and what to do about it. I run the demons at 36/42psi as recommended by Honda for the original bike, I don't know what the recommendation for the Demons is. The tyres on the bike are a matched pair, of the correct spec for the bike and only 7000km old. Because I do Paekak Hill twice daily, I feel the tyre is more pointy than round too. The back tyre is fine.

- What is feathering?
- What causes it?
- Is this tyre failing sooner than others, is this 'normal'?
- What is the effect on handling?
- Does the tyre need to be replaced?
- Is it safe?
- Will it do the March 4 trackday if it has to be trashed?

You can understand my concern. It's no bloody good throwing away tyres that still have more than half their tread but equally it's not a clever thing to be riding if its unsafe. I would like to learn what all this means and if I am able to prevent this happening in the future.

Hi Brett,
I have sent some pics of my rear tyre to FROSTY after the way it looked after the last trackday I did, to see if he can give me some tips on how to have it not look like that again, maybe he wouldn't mind sighting a pic of your tyre too and give some advice (Sorry Frosty if you don't want everyone sending you pics and moaning, just tell me to  )

Thanx MsK ... willl PM frosty and ask him. Sure I can take to the shop, but I probably wouldn't understand why/how/when/where and all that stuff. Because like you, I don't want to have to keep doing this.

Feathering is quite normal,if you could show us some pictures would help
If you have a lookfrom the top of the tyre & look at the profile,as it wears the profile changes & effects the handling
