Well, the extended famdamily want to go to lunch this weekend, and are looking for a good restaurant to go to in the auckland area - preferably kinda central... Not out Howick way, or Westyville, or North Shore.

Anyway, will consider anything good ouside that area too

We have a few seafood lovers coming, and we're all dutch, so want a good deal too...:D Perhaps a buffet?

Priced under $25 per person preferably

You can't beat Vivace in High Street for the best pasta, gnocchi etc in town. They've been there for donkey's years and the kitchen never seems to slip. $16-$18 will get you a niiiiice feed (they have a few $28 steaks and wotnot on the menu but you don't have to order those...). BYO a few bottles of red and you'll be all set for $25 a head, I reckon.

Of course they're not exactly seafoody, but I always keep them at the top of the list for reliably good eating out without breaking the bank.

We went to Sawadee in Ponsonby Rd on Thurs. Its a Thai Restaurant. A lot of people had differing Seafood Dishes at our table including me and I rate it highly - decent sixed prawns de-shelled - only tails left attached. I'd recommend it for a look.

Thanks, they both sound good, I will mention them to those who make such decisions, and perhaps go and have a look if I get some spare time this week :)

Hi Posh Tourer
My 2 cents... for what its worth...
Hong Kong Seafood Restuarant
164 Great South Rd
Its in that part where all the antique shops are just before you hit Greenlane.
Havent been there for a while and maybe its bit on the cheaper side for what your looking for but for us being so broke price is a pretty major component when considering where to eat. For value for money and great food this place is great.
No licence, not sure if its a byo but i reckon the food is fantastic. Real fresh and cooked just right, not oily and full of msg. We've been heaps of times and everytime has been great. Their seafood stuff is especially good.
Dishes are around $8 to $15 and pretty generous so you can go mad.

That would be the opposite of the 'Eat Me' cookie in Alice in Wonderland, then.

The best quality food buffet place that I've tried in Central Akl is the Sheraton hotel however this is about $30-something per person. Biggest variety I've seen and all the oysters and prawns you can eat.

My fav seafood restaurant is Swashbucklers near the harbour bridge but they don't do buffets.

Yup I'll vouch for the Sheraton... Steam Biscuit Factory, think they do special seafood nights on Fridays or saturdays or summit. Mate shouted us a couple of times, real expensive but best buttet in town i reckon.
Last time they had a massive whole kingfish baked in a loaf of bread it was awesome

What about the Skytower?I dont know what the deal is there but the food`s real good and the view`s not bad either.I was there with several "conneseurs(no duobt to be corrected by MikeL)of good seafood" and they were impressed.

It's still one of the more (most) expensive restaurants in Auckland. Last time I went the food was pretty good but not the *best*, and I'd say it was overpriced.

If you're feeling flush and want a top-notch feed in Auckland, better to go to the O'Connell St Bistro, Number Five or Cibo for dinner and then just go up the tower and have a look.

My experience of the Skytower (2 times upstairs, 1 times downstairs) was expensive, and very average. I wouldn't go back when there are so many better places around.
