SR 250 - HELP!!!!

A young fella we know had a bit of bad luck with his bike (stolen, trashed and thrown down a bank by some heartless scumbag) is coming out to our place this saturday with the regular crew for a day of mending, repairing, BBQin' and general listening to shedmusic and mis-behavin'...

One guy is driving into town with his trailer to pick it up, I've bought some parts, others donating time etc.

(hmm, thinks - I think I said this weekend didn't I mangel / jim2??)

If anyone has a workshop manual for a 1980 Yamaha SR250 that they can lend me for a few days to help get this keen young bloke back on the road I would be very grateful. I'm happy to spring for a courier... Hell, I'll even buy the bloody thing if you are not too greedy.

If you can't bear to be sperated from your manual, what I really, (REALLY) need is a wiring diagram..... (bastard rooted the igniton and something aint right) and oil capacities etc

Dude for engine stuff you might wanna try for a TT250 manual.
as far as wiring is concerned the SR has a pretty easy loom to sort out.
Ill have a root through my stuff and see if I have an ignition barrel for one.
realisticly they probably cut the wires under the barrel and wired em together. Youl probably be able to just unplug the barrel and plug the new one in.

I'm not too sure what exactly is wrong with it as it's not in the shed yet but I know it needs the bearings and probably the brakes.

I'm going up the road to the 2nd hand book store. Manuals for these things turn up occasionally...

Paul -the sr250 is basicly a pretty good lil bike.
Its a basic 2 valve motor -stronger than the GN250 but it is let down by abismal front brakes and a gutless headlight.
We had a 250rs in the workshop with a lunched motor and in a pretty sad state except for the front end.
We removed the sr front end down to steering head.
we used the 250rs front end complete and to make the stem fit we used spacers under the top tripple clamp.
Of course that gave us hydraulic disk front end and being wire wheeled the honda wheel looked stock -but we lost the Humungus steel front fender.
We removed the stock rear shocks and fitted a set of koni's off of a xj550 (I think).
We braced under the swingarm so it wouldn't flex.
We gave the engine a freshen using a TT250 piston and gave the valves a trim and lapping.
Because it was going to be a town bike we regeared it to pull well to about 100km/h
We removed the stock headlight and used a Gpz550 square unit complete with the little bikini fairing.
A respray with candy apple red was the finishing touch.
I must say that once she was run in that little bike was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
You wouldn't believe how many big bikes she would leave standing at the lights

However, the budget here is a students one and the mission is a simple WOF. I deviate at my peril...

Still.. It is open garage day at chez Nuttridge on the sunny Kapiti Coast. We have a few spanner weilding idots turning up to repair the little SR and if things go well I may even service the Guzzi and install my new windage plate (cor).

We are turning on a big pot of pasta at lunch and a limited supply of hot dogs. PM me for the addy if you want...

It's not them honest, god fearin, motorcycle crashing local folk that you need to worry about... It's those friggin out of town, trouble makin' white trash, trailer livin, dog lovin bogans on Harleys that hang about at pubs giving the place a bad name mate...

That was the bad old days of course... It's MUCH nicer now....
