:scooter: Hey Girls

Planning a short ride on the afternoon of the 10th March.

Welly Chicks meet up at rimutex 1 pm and stop at top of the Taka's.
Rapa Chick's meet them at the top of the Takas at about 1.15pmish.

Ride down to Lady Featherston Cafe in Featherson for a coffee, eats and a chat.

Leave at 2.30pmish... for a ride over to Waikanae for Quasi's show. Thinking of going over Haywards and a stop on Paek Hill. Should get to Waikanae about 4.30pmish.

Please post your interest and any other ideas you may have.

At this stage probably the 675 Daytona, the Buell XB12SS, either the SV1000 or 650, and maybe a Street-Rod or V-Rod.

There's three rides postulated in the original thread: long, med, short.

I'm organising the long one, but to be honest I'd rather go for a coffee run.

Just like it doesn't matter what you ride, it doesn't matter who's riding what you ride.

Though I have been virtually biblically stoned for suggested that perpetuating the gender war in the framework of motorcycling is counter productive.

Maybe, just maybe, thet get a little tired sometimes of testosterone fuelled machoism from some of us blokes and simply want to ride their bikes together and share their experiences.

ya think we'd get away with declaring a males only ride?

Probably...but how dull would that be without some female interjection?

Lissa
19th February 2007, 07:13
I never saw the orginal thread...

I honestly dont care if guys come along. Wasnt meant to offend anyone... by having an only chicks ride, was just something we came up with in the chicks forum.

re my opening post : "Any boys who want to come along, must wear lipstick" clear, pink or just a bit of lip gloss will do.

I can somehow amend the title... think the mods can do that?

idleidolidyll
19th February 2007, 07:13

Organising rides on the basis of gender is hardly in the KB spirit.

I don't see the problem every now and then.

Maybe, just maybe, some blokes want to do that too, but in this case excluded because they are males. That is just plain sexist.

Point taken, Selwyn... but I'm not sure I see it as a deliberate act of sexism.
Do you take it personally? I don't, myself.

idleidolidyll
19th February 2007, 08:03
I wuz kidding

I understand completely why the chicks would want a ride of their own, my wife has told me why on several occassions

too much testosterone amongst the youngsters (and some of the oldsters too), too much penis comparison to be bothered with

fundamentally different folksies those gals and guys.
generally guys are about competition and chicks are about relationships; much of the time, on bikes in particular, the two just don't go hand in hand

and yes, i HAVE formally studied the gender differences

Come on guys n gals - no need to fight over this. The chicks ride thing (the way I see it) was initiated to empower those girls who might feel a bit intimidated riding in a big group of mostly guys, and to give us the opportunity to catch up and spout a whole heap of girlie shite!

I know myself, the reason I skipped last year's KBer ride on 1st October was cos I had no idea how many girls would be there and I was terrified of the thought of riding in a bunch of guys. Was too new to it all and too much of a wuss - whereas if it had been all girls (or there had been a girls' contingent that i knew was meeting up) I might have felt a bit more comfortable easing into it. Now I couldn't give 2 hoots about my companions' genders, altho I'm still a somewhat clumsy socialiser!

Now, as Lissa has said, if any guys want to join the ride then you are more than welcome (I'm sure the lippy condition is actually optional...). If you want to make an issue over the fact that there will be more girls than guys on this ride then that's your choice. As Jim has pointed out, there's more than one ride to choose from that day.

And at the end of the day, if you don't mind listening to a bunch of girls sharing gory intimate details (let me tell you, I have some REALLY good stories to tell about my most recent few days), then come along :) I guess the girls who are looking at going on this ride figured that the only time we get to talk about girlie stuff is when there are no guys around cos most guys really don't want to hear the shit that we spout. If you're OK with that then please do join in! :)

It was never intended to exclude anyone who actually wanted to be there.

Let's not turn this day sour - it's a great opportunity the Wellington KB crowd have been given and however we get there, and whoever we get there with, we need to make this a success and have a jolly good day.

Lissa
19th February 2007, 09:10
Thanks Jude :)

Have ammended the first post and asked for the title to be changed.

Yes lipstick is optional.

Guys are welcome... and always have been.... so lets see how many we get. Of course we 'love' you KB guys!

Who's fighting?
There was no intention to sour anything, I'm merely speaking my mind, which I would have no drama doing to your face because the intention for dialogue would be plain (along with the shit-eating grin).

But I do have to call that in a gently chiding way. Kiwibiker's ethos has always been inclusive as Sels said and I'm perfectly happy to ride at the back and I like talking for goodness sake. Going for a ride with a bunch of guys can be a bit boring thanks to the Tool Time inspired grunt fest about chicken strips and bling. I like to talk about my kids for instance but none of my blokey riding mates want to hear.

Come on Jim... you know I love you to death... but you were giving her shit!

The AKL girlie ride was a huge success... I think what guys sometimes forget in the big picture girls who ride are still an exception to the "girlie" rule... so its great that we can come together and celebrate that. if I was in AKL I would have done the girlie ride... not because Im pro women lets burn my bra crap... just good to meet woman who you have something in common with.

Anyway Lissa, good on you, who ever is welcome, girls or guys... great on you for organising something! :sunny:

Guys, gals... who cares... just ride that Ginni babe...

Well... at the end of the day it's no different to organising a hen night is it?.... A time for girls to be girls if they want. Good on 'em.

Or indeed a stag night... where blokes can be girls! LOL

But seriously, we all do it, what's the big deal? Is it just cos there are bikes involved? Much as I have been guilty of saying "can I come?" on some of the girls' rides, I'm not one hundred percent sure I'd like to be the token male
at such a gathering. Bex wouldn't let me anyway!!

Joni
19th February 2007, 09:55
Yeah to tell you the truth I dont really care... Its not something I feel hugely passionate about. I just find it strange that people cant just do what they want and not have people giving them shit about it.

Ah Jim, you're a rare sort and we love you for it :) And I know you'd say the same to my face, and I appreciate you all the more for the honesty.

How about 'Chicks, plus Jim2 and any other guys who don't mind talking about kids, periods, 'do these pants make my arse look fat', and the size of men's willies, coffee catch up and ride to Quasi's show' title for the thread? :dodge:

I'm teasing and you know it!. I've appreciated the help and advice you, Ceebie, Colapop and Dover (yes, even Dover) have offered me over the last few days. But you know that you guys are rare types. Even my own hubby has been grossed out by most of the stuff I've gone through in the last few days so the fact that you guys are more than happy to listen makes you all incredibly different to the general male population.

Not a sexist comment, just an honest one.

I totally get the KB 'all inclusive' thing and it's great. Nobody is judged (great for us ginny riders...LOL) and nobody is turned away. It was never intended to be sexist or exclusive.

I probably won't end up going on the ride myself cos Dave won't want to go on a chicks ride, and unless I drag him to Waikanae, he'll find an excuse to do something else. But that's the thing - if guys don't mind the chick thing, then you're all invited. It's just advance notice that there WILL be girlie talk.

Geeze, I know KB's meant to be inclusive and all (and by the way, love it and you all and blah blah) but let's not get het up about the occassional chick's ride, eh? I don't feel that strongly about whether or not guys come, the more the merrier.

I would point out that there is a Biker Angels forum on here and I presume it's there for a reason. I thoroughly enjoyed the last gals only ride. And I couldn't give 2 hoots if there's a boys only ride. What's wrong with it?

It is nice occassionally to have a gals only ride. And aren't there also 250 only, learners only, etc? Should we stop those as well?

(Guess we could organise it offline like little girly lepers. - p/t)

Trudes
19th February 2007, 12:22
Sorry Ceebie, can't bling you again so soon, but thanks, you seem to get the concept of the "Chick Ride".
As Jude etc pointed out, it can be quite intimidating for the less confident to ride in a largish group of people, and lets face it, most organised rides usually have a larger percentage of males to females. The reason for chick rides was to get all the females together at once to go for a ride together and usually grab a coffee or lunch and to be able to gossip freely without the boys either dominating the conversation or us females feeling like we can't say what we want without the guys thinking "oh my god, what a bitch/slapper/dozey cow etc".
I honestly don't see what the problem is, but I think in future we'll just organise chick rides in private and not advertise, sorry in advance to any female riders who don't receive a pm about the next chick ride, make yourself known to me, as Lissa's said she doesn't want to organise any more of these as it seems sexist to some people. Thanks.

I agree with Jim, KB has always had a culture of openness and inclusiveness, thats what makes it a good site. Organising rides on the basis of gender is hardly in the KB spirit.
Maybe, just maybe, some blokes want to do that too, but in this case excluded because they are males. That is just plain sexist.

What is your problem guys?

If the girls want to go for a "girls" ride why should you care.
You are doing the opposite of the 'KB spirit' you preach. It is in KB we find like minded individuals and have the opportunity to organise rides/events with these people. But what you have said is you can't do this in public if you want to ride with a selected group of people.
Male/Female is just one example, I have seen other targeted rides and I have even arranged a Hornet only ride to meet and ride with other Hornet riders (does that make me bikest?) Do you also get upset when you see a group of Harley's or Goldwing's ride past?

Mrs KD and others have stated the dynamic in a group 'girl' ride is totally different to a mixed sex ride. Why should you try to take away their right to arrange rides for the girls that I am sure will attract female riders that would not normally join a group ride.

All you will achieve from your posts and wise words is the organising of these rides to be done via PM, meaning newer females may miss out.

Ya know - I cannot believe i am reading some of the crap here and don't argue with me because i am a tireless rebutter - it says so under my name

The truth is - i love the girly rides but i also love hanging out with the guys. Its on a different level though. after that first chicks ride i have made some great mates and i have been hanging out to do another. i love hearing about periods and sharing my issues.......which could be the reason why those bitches iggied me HAHA

As for the guys that i have met through the Thursday Night rides over to the Wairarapa and the ride to Sels - you honestly couldnt meet a better bunch of people - i stand by that. You guys are like whanau whether you like it or not

Now, I plan on being on this coffee ride and my guess is also because we females are like we are and advertising where we are going there really isn't anything secretive about it - if you want to hang out with us - thats cool and i am sure nobody has a problem with it......although i havent read all the posts associated with it.

In the spirit of KB - aren't we all free spirits who enjoy meeting others at the end of the day? There is no need to argue because we all get along well anyhow.......

Am i rambling? SURE I AM!! because thats what i do best

Now chill out all you lovelies and behave yourselves

Love and Kisses
Elle
P.S. - i won't be organizing rides for Maori only because I might be out there by myself HAHA

Ignore the naysayers.
Yes, we'd really like to know what chicks REALLY talk about together but there's no need to invite the guys along.

Have your chick rides and have fun. (But if anyone gets naked or there's any mud wrestling to be had, the boys would like a heads up)

I appreciate and support that and point to WIMA (http://www.wima.org.nz ) as an organisation catering to requirement. Individuals will gather with those "like minded"

So if I read between the lines (a great way to misinterpret what people say on the Internet but happens all the time, forgive me if this is not your intent) what you are saying is the girls need to leave KB and go somewhere else to arrange their rides?
And if I want to arrange a Hornet ride I need to find another web site or create my own?

I am curious now and have created a poll (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=44505) to see what the general consensus is.

So if I read between the lines (a great way to misinterpret what people say on the Internet but happens all the time, forgive me if this is not your intent)

Its not my intent believe me, and I see now how things can get out of hand

what you are saying is the girls need to leave KB and go somewhere else to arrange their rides?

No, of course not. The point I was trying to make is that there is a lot of special interest groups already, and the thing I like about KB is it is open to all.

And if I want to arrange a Hornet ride I need to find another web site or create my own?

As above. I cant recall it being an issue at the time. Did you put it up as “hornets only, all others banned”, or “Hornet get together, others welcome if you are interested”?
The latter is how I feel KB should be, but that’s just my opinion.
However, the other thing I like about KB is there is no rules and regulations like those other organizations, at the end of the day, we can still all basically do what we want.

Now I know some people may consider Wasp to be a bit girly but I don't think he should be invited to go on that ride. Some women (even though they won't say it) are intimidated by having guys riding with them. Some guys tend to show off (trying to impress the girls and do stupid things). I'm not saying Wasp will do that but if you invite one then you throw it open to all.

Let the girls ride together. If you want someone to go for a ride with, then post a ride and see if people will turn up.

Exactly Selwyn - Things certainly have got out of hand in this thread. Personally I think the 'getting out of hand' started with giving women the vote and it's been down hill ever since. Two World Wars since then? Co incidence?? I think NOT! Hurmpf!

Even caught one of the cheeky blighters driving a car the other day - extrodinary - I think she may havebeen one of those lesbians we hear so much about. Chap told me they are even turning up at the gym - can't have that now! Muscly women - good lord! I'll have to keep a weather eye out now as I thought some of the lads had spent a bit long on the old pec deck... turns out they may not be lads at all..

Because there is no other ride on that day, I dont mind if you girls go out and have a ride but this is currently the only organised ride to the Quasi gear show.

Because of this if you chicks go on your ride then us guys either sort something out by ourselves and the male and female groups arrive seperately at Quasi's show, now what is the point in that?! or us guys just turn up individually and thats just not as fun

I honeslty could'nt care if guys and girls are seperate but I don't want to ride by myself....

Have fun girls.

I can't see what all the fuss is about.

The girls want to have a ride together for whatever reason, thats fine to my thinking. There are rides open to all and I've had a great time on ones such as Wed night rides, and the Wairarapa (umm, BBQ at Sels) ride (ahh- organised by Lissa to include ALL) on Waitangi day was great.

Have your ride. I have no desire to be there.

Girl only rides? Too right!! If I wanna talk about bad cramps, thrush, hair, nails, and how I love the colour of our bike or my new jacket then I feel far more comfortable doing that with my gal pals and possibly my male friends would be grateful if I left them out of those topics of conversation!

I believe Lissa always said guys were welcome and her reference to you boys having to wear lipstick was what I call 'tongue'n'cheek' - which she has since edited.

Chill out lads and let's all ride safe and have fun. :whocares: Hopefully I'll be able to come along.

Cramps - leathers too tight behind the knees or rear sets too high... can be bad.
Thrush - blardy things - I hit one once on the bike - they are a lot more solid than they look..
Hair - What little I have left gets mussed up by me helmut so i carries a cap and sorry - I'm done shavin my back
Nails - I got a flat tyre once too
Colour - I painted it and chose the colour so we could talk about that but you got bored last time. We could discuss the compressor I used or why I went old school laquer etc but I'm not sure thats what you meant?
New jacket? Nope - you got me there - mines only halfway stinky.

Heres the agenda... (yea alittle bored today)

You welly people met at rimutex about 1pm. Will meet you guys at the top of the hill. A cruise down to Lady Featherston Cafe.... arrival time approx 1.30pmish.

Have a coffee, cold drink, smoke, eats, and chat about life in general, discuss the various KB males and have a good laugh.

Leave about 2.30pmish, back up the hill. Stop at the top?

Thought maybe Trude could be the leader, and either me or elle, nasty or ceebie and bex the tail end charlie?

Make our way over the haywards to Paek hill, stop at the top... more nattering.

Then off to Quasi's show... where we are all to give Col a Group Hug. :sunny:

BE CAREFUL...

There have been several accidents because of this cock up by Transit and people will be grumpy and impatient so if you split lanes, go quietly and carefully OK!

You may want to consider coming over the Akatarawas as that will take you directly to the venue but stay well left and again - be careful as there will be even more frustrated road users than usual.

Trudes
10th March 2007, 07:46
Thanks Paul. We might have to have a girlie pow wow about which road to take. The Akas can be a bit dicey and as you say, there'll be a fair bit of traffic avoiding the crap also. Either way, it's probably gonna suck. Oh, and we're always quiet and careful...:innocent:
