Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, I did do a search but couldn't find anything.
Does any one know of a detailed map on the internet that shows a wide view, but with rural roads in it?
I usually use Smaps and I find it's good for small views, but I'm wanting something that would show, say... Whakatane - Kawhia - Cambridge - Taupo sort of region. Not sure if that is possible though.
Any help would be muchly appreciated :)

Smaps are pretty good
Donno if Wises has caught up yet, but smaps does street nubmers (it'll be able to pin point where a certain house is etc for most streets)

Thanks for all the map sites  Is there any way of knowing whether a road is gravel or not... before riding on it?

You can view map or ask directions, ie 'from' 'to' 'via' etc and it highlights the route and give detailed directions including distance.

I use the NZ motorcycle Atlas. It differentiates between sealed and unsealed roads.
Welcome to have a look if you want. PM me if interested.

I like topomaps. linz has online 260 topos (classic 1:50,000) that may be of some use.
http://www.nztopoonline.linz.govt.nz
Select "New Zealand Mainland Only NZMG" under select a map on the top right.
260 series topos seems to be pretty good with respect to gravel vs seal, and roads with some minor updating needed in remote areas. Bare carefull round forests though as lots of roads are shown but forest firms no longer allow access.
