Sawyers (Oil Cap etc.) - Con't...

Hi

Where do I start? :o As I was leaving work to go to Sawyers, I got a call from Brendan, who said he understood I had some concerns. I think someone on here either works at, or knows someone well who does, at Sawyers...

I got there, and he took the time to sit down and listen to what my concerns were, and he's put my mind at ease. The issue being looked into with Yamaha should be resolved either way, in the next 2 weeks. He got Derek to loosen the oil filler cap, which wasn't cross threaded, just super tight. When he undid it, it looked relatively easy, just goes to show how much experience helps. They said it needs to be tight, since if it comes off, it's tickets :eek: I still think it was a little too tight, but I'm happy they err'd (spelling?) on the side of caution. It came off easier without the rubber protector, but I don't think thats an option for me, since the cap scratches easily. You may remember I said I thought they slightly tore my original rubber protector (for the metal wrench in the toolkit), and slightly scratched my oil filler cap.They said they don't use the bikes tools, they have their own. I can't guarantee that it was them (although I didn't notice it until after the first service, and I'd only used it once before), so it was hasty/wrong to post that I thought they did. Either way, without me even asking, they replaced the rubber protector and oil filler cap. I wasn't expecting that, and was really suprised & appreciative.

So I guess what I'm saying is, I tend to be very hasty/impulsive, and I wrote my original post very shortly after my phone call last saturday. The good thing about being human, is you learn from experiences, and, unless I'm particularly daft, won't repeat "mistakes" in the future.

I will definitely use Sawyers in the future for any work/servicing, and sincerely hope I haven't put anyone off them, they're a great bunch.

So... how are you finding the R1, then? Don't forget, you now have a couple-of-months window during which you can smugly pull monos past all the ZX-10R owners as they wobble around trying not to shatter their front wheels.

Sorry to side track the thread StoneChucker but, did anyone else see the R1 television advert? It was very cool! Lots of peoploe running toward the bike oooooo and aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhing. I think it's the 1st motorcycle advert I have ever seen.

Phew, thanks for the update Stonechucker, I'm relieved that Sawyers came to the party. I rate them highly for service and they are my first choice in Wgtn. Although I've been getting worried that now they have amalgamated with Motorad there is less and less competition around town. Not good for customers.

My first bike was a CB200 and for some reason the oil-filler on that used to tighten right up between oil-changes.It was me that put it on but I could never get it off manually.What I used to do was get pair of pliers,big wad of rag around the filler and it`d shift every time.If you`re talking about tight bolts then make sure your spanner isn`t going to hit anything when it moves and give the end a tap with a hide mallet.Dont welly it,if a tap dosnt shift it then let someone with a workshop have a go at it.
I`m glad you`ve sorted your problem out amicably,always the best way,particularly when you`ve got a bike still under warranty.Most dealers treat their customers well,they want them to come back for their next bike,parts and servicing after all.
One other thing,your bike,unfortunately,will pick up a few scratches and scrapes along the way,as Paul and others have pointed out that`s just a fact of life.O.K. so it`s a major disaster when you get the first one on your pride and joy,I`ve been there too,but in real life it`s going to happen so best not get too wound up about it.Didn`t you get your username by stuff getting thrown at someone else`s bike off of your rear wheel?Could be you one day mate,either stick it in a glass case or accept things like that happen and get out there and ejoy it.

In South Africa, you can have a momentary lapse of judgement, and act like an arsehole, and not worry about seeing anyone involved again, the country is that big. Here, everyone knows everyone, and I am going to be cringing everytime I go out on a ride, or back to Sawyers.

I'm just going to roll into a ball, and block my ears till it goes away, oh, and when I pluck up the courage, drop by sawyers and apologise again...

Dont worry about it mate,take a look at what people have posted here and you`ll find they`ve been pretty supportive.I dont think any of us has got through life without mis-judging something or someone.If you`re waiting to be bombarded with abuse by the people here then I`d say you`re in for a long wait.As for Sawyers,they deal with all kinds of people and all kinds of problems day in day out.All I`ll say mate is that you definately need to learn to chill out a bit,if you feel the need to apologise to Sawyers then just pick up the phone,talk to the guy you saw and "Hey mate,new bike,bit fussy about it........e.t.c."Sorted and forgotten,draw a line under it.Life moves on and they`ll have someone else`s R1 to worry about today,people here will have something else to talk about.

Don't worry about venting spleen - we all do that from time to time and make dicks of ourselves....jeez, when I think of some of the things I've done/said in the past..... And trust me, being older does NOT necessarily make us wiser - we're all just as liable to cock up/whatever now than 20 years ago. (well, I am anyway)

SA definately lacks the customer service that we experience here in NZ, people will by now be asking "WHAT customer service......?" Shows how deprived I was back in SA, the attitude was: if you don't like it, lump it!

I am sorry for the out burst, it was a little over the top. I am going to blame it on having a bad day. its hard not to be cynical sometimes when people demand unrealistic results.
for all you gossips who havnt got anything better to do. I am a DIESEL MECHANIC! I am sure the same situations happen if you work on cars, bikes or heavy equipment.
are you all starved of a bit of scandal or somthing? & in my experience the Sawyers staff have always been great.

What's the story? Did your headlight get smashed up somewhere along the rest of the ride? I take it something like that happened - hope you didn't need to replace the whole unit!
