Just curious, seeing as how this is my new calling.
Next time I park in the bikes only spot I might get called out to tow myself away. :mobile: :killingme

I don't mind towies in the right context actually if any one could recommend one to me to have one of my cages towed from lower hutt to wellington for repairs let me know.

Only problem with towies is they're like cops: the bastards are never there when I need them!

I don't know, but last time I was doing it I learnt some interesting new insults, mainly about my parentage and possible species.
I've had a few people call me a bastard an then ask for a ride home
Reckon I was just starting to think it was universal.
Glad it's not.
Cheers.

Never been towed when I didn't deserve it. Never seen a towie tow someone away who's parking permit was current.
Been rescued by polite towies from a couple of breakdowns too.
Kinda like parking wardens (never seen 'em issue a ticket to somene who still had time on their meter...), and people seem to hate them too.
The only problem I have with 'em is they way they break into your car to remove it. Towie's should only be allowed to remove your vehicle if they can do so:
1. without breaking in
2. without damaging it in any other way
I belive in some countries they have to use a flat bed truck with a hoist and bungees...
Hope you can make yourself an honest living rescuing stranded people from breakdowns, JR. (ie don't be an evil carpark shark if you can help it!)

Definately into vehicle recovery, not car park towing or crash chasing.
Actualy got in with "pick a part" so it should be pretty civilised.
Shiny brand new flat deck comes out of the paint shop next week.$$$$$

Sounds like a good gig, Jack.
And I don't see why anyone would hate towies. Thick twits shouldn't have parked illegally in t'first place.
There must be a nice buzz to be got off being a search 'n' rescue towie, though :innocent:

Gidday Jack, good on you mate, have only had good experinces(sp?) with towies,(18 years as pro F/F) always found them helpful at MVA's, On the odd time when they have got there b4 the emergancy services, same always acted in a professional manner,In fact have used their gear from time to time to help with difficult extractions in MVA's and the towie dude did not even get the job,. Have also used them to tear down roller doors in stryctural fires so we could get cars out of a panel beaters to minimise damage..The only winge that I have heard of has been from cage owners who have parked illegally,.so, yeah, good on you mate :2thumbsup

I don't hate em I guess cause I haven't had any experiences with them so far... I hate the parking wardens though. Their fingers are always itching to write up a ticket! :angry2:

Towies seem to be the latest to follow the pedantic fill out the forms cover my arse style we see everywhere. My towie keeps firing his drivers and putting his trucks away, then 6 mths later they are back on the road.Anyway my latest fill in group (thinkpink) is hopeless - I ring for a pick up....give make model colour reg number and the street it's in,,my normal towies then just go and pick it up,but not these guys....''where that?'' 'Greenlane I think'....''where abouts in Greenlane?''...'?????,um,looking at my map I tell him where'....''whats the street address?''....'no street number, the car stopped, she turned down a side street and stopped,if you turned down too you should find a car that make, model, colour and reg number with a woman standing beside it'....''sorry,but we need a street number before we can go out on a pick up''.....'sorry to waste your time,I'll try a towie who can find his way around the city and use his imagination'.dorks!

Sure they perform as service, so do proctologists, but it's the ones hovering around to get 10 minutes overstayed cars in Wilson carparks that need re-education. ( In the strict Kmer Rouge sense)

The better half had hers towed by a local co from her work car park a few weeks ago at about 11pm.
It was in the company car park and the towies had a list of allowed cars for the park, and her car was on the list.
So they towed it anyway, damaged the front of the car, made her pay the tow cost before releasing the car, claimed for several weeks there was no list and denied all damage to the car. Even though the tow mechanism lines up perfectly with the damage. Teh car is otherwise mint and she really looks after it.
Eventually they admitted they towed the car in error and refunded the money, but still never admitted nor did anything about the damage.
I guess you could say they aren't my favorite people, although I know I shouldn't tar all of them with the same brush.

I don't have problem with towies either. But carpark shark is just total sham and should be discouraged.
And parking warden....well.....to me it's all about the money. And when you get paid marginal amount, $6 per day for parking IS a relatively big pain in da b*tt
And if you're working in a hotel where the council suddenly came in and put parking metres in front of it, life just sux.....

I know a few towies (southern districts),most of 'em are a decent bunch.
I'd like to add to the damage thing too,in my line of work,I've fixed plenty of steering and suspension damage caused by towies not being careful.
otherwise no gripes...
What?

Every towie I've ever met has been a most obliging, pleasant sort of chap. Even when arguing with an electric fence...

Small claims court? If the damage is sufficiently severe, the insurance company may have a go at them, although a lot of the time they can't be bothered.
Against companies, the small claims court can be good. If they don't pay, then there is nothing like the baliffs siezing all the office equipment (with the associated records) to get attention. It is often crap against individual losers who do a runner.
