View Full Version : Miles to Km - 2003 CBR1100XX (UK import)

Hi,

Can anyone help?

I've shipped my 2003 blackbird from the UK to NZ (I've emigrated), and changed the speedo from mph to kmh by holding the 'set' and 'mode' buttons together. Unfortunately this doesn't also change the digital trip and odometer to km.

... OK so it is not earth-shatteringly important, but annoying none the less.

I would expect that Honda would only make one PCB for all blackbirds and probably rely on some shorting links to set the km or miles mode - does anyone know if this is the case, or even how to go about changing the mode?

Any help gratefully received,

BigRod

Hi I'm in the same boat, I've shipped my 1999 blackbird from the UK to NZ (I've emigrated too), but I can't change mine other than changing the face. We should meet up sometime, I fancy a ride out next Sunday if your up for it.

There is a breakfast run on next Sunday,

Sunday 25 February - Breakfast Ride to the Wairarapa - 8.30am departure from carpark of Rimutaka Sportsbar, next to Caltex Rimutaka, 1193 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt

Regards

Davey

Davey - what about those Illumiglo dials that I have on mine? Russ Cruse brought them over for me and they should do the job. Jaws should be able to supply them. Not sure what the story is for yours Big Rod with the digital read out but email Jaws, he should know.

Hmmm, so which of you was at the model airplane club, or is there a 3rd pom-turned-kiwi with an imported blackbird in Wgtn?

I still have some model engines, a plan and a dethermaliser timer I brought with me from England 30+ years ago. Don't know whether I'll ever use them again but can't bear to part with them!

So among the "Blackbird" posters we have a "RED" blackbird, a "BLUE" blackbird and I wonder what BigRod has, a "Black" blackbird??

Good to meet with FreeBird today.

..... Indeed: how could it be other than black?

On topic again - does anyone know how to mod the odometer to read out in km instead of miles? I figure that if some people know how to play with the numbers on the clock then someone must know how to mod it over to km.

Rod

P.S. I'll give Jaws a ring in a short while, but I'm not holding out hope......

Nahh, a guy (from UK as well) at work mentioned is great big black bike with lotsa bling when he was flying and talking to you, asking why you'd bothered to import as opposed to selling it there and buying one over here.

Errr, small sticker with "km" on it, and a mental "multiply by 1.6? That's what I do with my bike... :dodge:

....asking why you'd bothered to import as opposed to selling it there and buying one over here.

If Big Rod and others are anything like me, it could be for one, if not two, reasons:

a) I'd loved my ZX9 to death and I couldn't bear to part with it. And I fancied showing it New Zealand!
b) It was winter when I left the UK and no one was buying at my price anyway.
c) It was actually cheaper to ship it out (£800 from memory) and register it in NZ than to buy another similar bike here.

oh... thats 3 reasons. Doh!

But yes, why take another bike when I know mine has been looked after from new, and a winter sell was not an option. Plus if I had sold the bike then SWMBO might just have misappropriated the funds towards the new house! (couldn't risk that)

Fark!! Where did you get that kind of deal? I used an outfit called Frontier Forwarding. Claimed to specialise in bike shipments. The crate was about as much good as a chocolate fireguard. Utterly hopeless. Only luck and copious amounts of bubble wrap meant that the bike arrived in one piece. But even then they nearly dropped it off the fork lift when it did arrive.
