1999 Volty price?

Hi there. i am new to KiwiBiker. recently got my 6L and am in the process of looking for a bike.

What i have been looking at is a 1999 Volty with about 16km's on it. as it seems like a good learner bike and looks rather nice.

What should i expect to pay for something like that?

Hey welcome to the site.

I see WMCC has a Volty at the moment for $4,999. Thats pretty pricey but it looks to be pretty mint. When you buy from a shop you pay more for the assurance that they will fix anything that goes wrong with it for the first few months.

Privately, it should be a lot cheaper. I reckon if you paid less than $3,500 you should get a mint Volty. Really you should be looking at closer to $3,000 or less to get a real bargain.

Hopefully we hear from the likes of Midnight Mike, Klingon and any other Volty owners.

Thats pretty low Km's for a 250cc 4 -stroke, it should have plenty more life in it. Also don't forget to search the forums here for advice and opinions on other models that are good for learners.

I would expect around $2,600- $3000 in top condition.
They are a good bike for learners and handle quite well, nice and stable for a learner.

oooh how did I miss this thread?! I'm a dedicated Volty fan (see my profile).

I bought my bike on Mack the Knife's excellent advice. I got a total bargain (less than $2k) but don't get your expectations up... I had to look long and hard to find one for that price. I also spent almost $600 getting it serviced (new chain & sprockets, carb clean, new fork seals & oil, general tune-up) and $200 on a new rear tyre. The front tyre was pretty new when I got it. Oh, and we changed the oil at home.

So if you add all that up, $3000 or less seems about right for a decent bike that's been maintained well. Mine had been sitting in a garage for about a year which is why it needed all that work first thing.

In case you're not aware of it, a Volty is basically a GN250 with a different shaped tank & seat. Mack will try to tell you that there's a different angle on the frame but I haven't decided whether to believe him yet :dodge:

So you'll tend to pay a bit more for the styling and just the fact that there aren't so many of them around, but you have to know your own price - how much is that styling really worth to you? People selling them seem to put an extra $1000 on top of the GN price... is it worth it? You decide.

When I first got hooked on Volties I bookmarked every Volty and every GN250 that came on Trademe and kept a list of what they finally sold for (not what people were asking, but the actual selling price). That meant I pretty much knew what was a bargain and what wasn't. I reckon mine was a bargain. :love:

And you are right Klingon, it was a bargain!
and the frame is different.

Best idea is to get someone you trust to look at it, who knows bikes, or take it to a bike shop for a full inspection.
