A lil advice for racers.

Folks I had a lil incident in practice at Pearoa.
There was a safety issue that I may by accident have highlighted.
The thing is though I was the ONLY person who actually raised the issue directly with race control.
There was a fair bit of bitching in the pits about it but Ive recently been informed that NOONE actually said a word to THE RACE CONTROLLERS about it.
Basicly hey folks if ya have an issue SAY SOMETHING
The thing is it might just be your own life you are saving
Shaun is a fine example of this--At timeru in typical Shaun fashion he told the club there was an issue with the armco on the outside of the chicane--ie it was there with NO crash protection on it.
The folk running meetings are human--sometimes they get it wrong

Good advice Frosty

We the riders are the ones that know what is safe and what is not, we the riders need to speak up a lot more to help the organisers with safety etc

..... and they only wanted the red flags held up at certain points - they should have had them up at every point so the riders could see them ASAP.

Every point had a radio, ours had two - so what's the prob?

current MNZ regs say that you need at least 3 red flags. VMCC use red flags at every point, but you don't have to.

the red flag is under control of the clerk of the course, but there is no reason why they couldn't have red flags at all points. maybe they just didn't have enough? that's bad planning.

Feel like a noob by saying something?? Don't!! Check out Rossi's autobiography... he says pretty much exactly the same thing Frosty and Shaun are saying, about Suzuka, and the riders knowing what's safe and what isn't.

My point is the organisers of race meetings do so with the very best of intentions but they are human and can make mistakes.
In my case I genuinely believe (believed) that the position of the safety/chequred flags during a race practice/race was wrong--Ie in a place they were not well visible.
The way I was able to raise this issue was er "less than ideal" but none the less race control took it on board and figured maybee I wasn't the only "blind old bastard " To paraphrase I believe
The flags were moved to a more visible position and a second chequred flag was waved at the exit to the dummy grid.
I do agree that perhaps moore red flags should have been available -but its a case of 20/20 vision in hindsite.
We the guys who are without being over dramatic are "putting our lives on the line" need to speak up -either through our riders rep or when the danger apears severe and immediate to race control
