Thanks guys and girls.
I think having the poll on the thread has helped hold it together. The nay sayers don't have a leg to stand on. The KB public (and Spank Me) have spoken.
I was going to go for a ride today but my helmet is too small now :innocent:
What are you talking about Kendog?...it was a public discussion, individuals gave their opinions. That's all.
Neither right or wrong. The naysayers obviously in your world are people who bring up pertinent points of interest/discussion that you disagree with.
It may interest you to know that parliament and the international community does everything they can to fight discrimination based on 'isms'
So on that note and by your fuzzy logic you loose....downsize the helmet!!

I'm with SPB on this and not only that, the reason for the thread and poll was bollocks anyway.
Colapop had asked for people to organise 3 separate rides for the Quasimoto/WMCC expo in Waikanae.
I hate organising big rides, for a whole bunch of reasons, not the least of which is the deaths of both bikes and riders, so I was less than chuffed to see someone organise a ride, perfectly specced to be the short/slow/easy ride and it excluded 50% of the population based on gender.
Meh.
So I took the piss (I was a teeny weeny bit serious as well) in the hope that the aforementioned orgnasier would, "Oh yeah, woops, let's make this the short ride", but noooooo, the PC brigade got stuck in and tried to make me look like a dick.

I did not take sides at the start of the thread and poll (even though I had a side at the start) I was asking an open question looking for peoples thoughts on the right or wrong for girls to arrange girl rides on KB.
I have my answer both from the general KB populous and from the site owner!
I'm with SPB on this and not only that, the reason for the thread and poll was bollocks anyway.
You know why the thread and poll was started, you instigated it this time round.
Colapop had asked for people to organise 3 separate rides for the Quasimoto/WMCC expo in Waikanae.
The girls ride in mention has an end point of Quasimoto's expo, but to my knowledge (and the knowledge of the co-organiser) this ride was not part of the organisation of the expo. It is simply another ride.
so I was less than chuffed to see someone organise a ride, perfectly specced to be the short/slow/easy ride and it excluded 50% of the population based on gender.
Again, not part of the expo planning. The girls were just looking for a date to organise the next girl only ride. Someone mentioned the Quasi event and it was agreed this would be a good date for the next ride (this was all discussed in the biker angels thread, prior to the girls ride thread being created)
So I took the piss (I was a teeny weeny bit serious as well) in the hope that the aforementioned orgnasier would, "Oh yeah, woops, let's make this the short ride", but noooooo, the PC brigade got stuck in and tried to make me look like a dick.
The poll was not about you or the Quasi event. It is about a repeating topic on this site. Should girls be allowed to organise girl only rides on KB?
Your comments here are unrelated to the topic of this thread, why are you not making these comments in the threads in question?

Remember Jim, you have to move past denial and get to acceptance before you can begin your 12 steps.
First admit you have a problem, then the group can help you. lol

Meh.
I'm not arguing or anything I just want to point out to Jim and Col, that I never saw any post and never read the Quasimoto post regarding him wanting 3 sep rides.. until way AFTER said mentioned 'taking the piss' about my ride.
Would have been really really nice if someone had actually told me about this, say via PM. Meh.... is right, see looks like we have some communication problems. I wish I was a mind reader.... but I lucked out on that department.
Dont make assumptions because if you assume you make an ass out of u and me.
All Jim had to say in my thread was:
"Hey Mel, you are super cool and have an awesome bike, did you know that Col wants three rides organised that day? How about we make this the slow group". Hmmm think that would have worked. :)
Thank you
And kind regards
Mel
Oh and you arent a dick Jim. ;)

First off i will say i don't ride I'm to chicken. But yes they should be allowed to organize girl only rides when you consider how many rides that go up saying 250 riders only. To me there is not much difference
So what ya saying is that there is no difference between girls and 250 riders?????Is this Pete or Wendy?sometimes i can't tell!

Now don't get all upity...., but can I just ask who merged these threads? Cause it now reads really weirdly, it doesn't flow too well as there are two slightly different things going on. No biting my head off now, I'm allowed to ask! I can just hear the WTF comments and people getting the totally wrong ends of sticks and other people who have actually followed both threads having to explain again!

Yep to bed with ya.
I think girl rides are good at the end of the day, some of the girly fraternity like the company of fellow female riders, it can encourage other girls to comeout if they're new (without being overwhelmed by the ratio of boys to girls on bikes). Nothing wrong with boy only rides either. People will vote with their wheels what they like/don't like at the end of the day.

I don't think you are getting it yet. It's not about riding with the same type of bikes, if you want this go on a 250 ride, or organise a GN ride. It's about riding with the same type of people, in this case 'girls'.
I got it, had had a few and was off on a tangent and having a rant when I wrote that.
Sorry for the hijack.

I didnt read the whole forum so what Im going to say may have been said. I am female and returned from the states. Im in CHCH and would love a womens ride because....
Not knowing any riders here is very intimadating. So I decided I wanna ride I gotta find people to ride with.
I went on one ride from the net in which there was 8 of us, me being the only woman. Im a pretty outspoken secure person but I felt weird. Not that they were not nice....they were great. I think I felt weird and I think perhaps they werent feeling to comfortable (but iI dunno...maybe one will read this and post up) The ride was great and I learnt alot, it just kinda got weird when we stopped. I think I said three words in 1 hour ....for me thats weird cause IM NOT SHY. Thats ok though, the purpose was to ride not meet lifetime friends.
.........I just think for me personally a ladies ride would be looked apon as a more social event. The riding part is the same what ever ride but I would prob open my mouth more and actually talk on a ladies ride because I would feel more comfortable.
I def will continue on any ride I can.....because I like to ride.....guess the point is a ladies ride would be looked at by me as a more social event....rather than just a ride.

................. It's about riding with the same type of people, in this case 'girls'.................
was going to be flip here .......... but
actually - this is part of my problem with 'exclusivity' - it may kick off with all the right intentions for all the right reasons [freedom being one of them] but it sometimes ends up with sweeping generalizations that i, personally, [so shoot me] find unpalatable.
i am female
i ride a bike
i am a foreign-born new zealander
i am left handed
i am middle aged
i have a very low bullshit tolerance level
being female doesn't 'catagorize' moi any more closely than any of the the other categories ..... gender is just one of my descriptors and not the most important under most circumstances ....
so, really, i am NOT a 'type' just because of an absence [or presence] of dangly bits .......... and i don't believe anyone else is either
irrespective - if i want to join up with a bunch of good individuals and they are off on a ride, you'll probably find me on that ride anyway ......... if they'll have me [because they have the same choices that i do ...]

I don't get what the big deal is....
If the girlies want to go riding together I don't see why there is a problem. It's probably one of those things like when they go to the loo together....
The only thing i'd like to add is that yes some new female riders might feel more comfortable riding in "all girl" groups, but although that is all good, they shouldn't be afraid to go riding with the boy people. Yes some of us may be a bit faster, yes the levels of testosterone are usually high, yes we show off, but one the whole most of us are more than happy to accomidate all riders.
As for the comment about them maybe not keeping up with the boys and pushing it to much and binning. I can honestly say I know a shit load more guys that have that problem than girls. I find most girlie riders are more level headed and so I don't have to worry about them pushing it to hard if they are on a ride with me.
