Moderators please bare with me:

I don't know where is correct to post this:

QUOTE: GUITANA: NZ need to vent its spleen to our respective MPS?

How about we use this post as a guide, and maybe the Mods can assist by setting up a POLL:

A Vote:

Would you support a NATIONAL march on parliament, to voice a collective concern, and tell the government to do something?

Votes fore and against:

Hey its a start, and we could use this forum to gauge the numbers there of, then maybe take it outside the forum?

You can whinge at MPs all you want they don't care. They rely on NZers Goldfish memories so they only have to stoke the issues flame at election time. They also rely on the fact that it's pretty easy to get NZers fired up about an inconsequential issue while they pass laws that make it more expensive to breathe for the rest of us, let alone buy a house or a car or a bus pass.

If you want to make a difference pay more tax so they can hire more Police to stop you doing anything that may be regarded as fun.

Be careful what you ask for lest you get what you want.

I hate to say it but their own affect the Members' selfish interests and you'll be heard - otherwise no...

Which translates to hoping there is a high profile crime about a month before the elections, raising merry hell about it and getting a grieving widow on TV.

Now is the wrong time to march. As was mentioned - the goldfish memories of NZers are famous, and the next event (whatever it may be) will dilute down any mind share you worked so hard to gain.

Yours needs to be that next event. The last big thing before the critical debate or promise is made. Then you need ANOTHER one at the beginning of the penultimate year of term to make sure those in power have time to actually budget and do anything... then ANOTHER one just before the next election to keep it top of mind.

The parlimentary system in NZ
Election Year -1. Bribes offered for next term, and the essential bribes from the last election fulfilled. Don't spend money on votes until you need to - and till it will have th greatest effect

Election Year. Form the govt - under MMP - this takes a while. We all know that, so why are we surprised when Winnie, Rodney, or Janette hold things up to make sure they get their term in the sun?

Do the unpopular shit. Back out of any promises, put up tax, reneg on anything you want. This is the time to be unpopular - people WILL forget

Election year + 1. Start to govern. It takes a while for things to fall into place and the work of laws actually being passed, and undoing the good that was done by the last govt (assuming a party change).

Politicians are like Possums.
To start with they make kinda cool pets, then after a while you know eventually they will as a whole destroy this great country.
You then come to the conclusion that the only good possum is a a dead politician...opppps i mean possum

Shit tell me how to bring up my kids, tell me what is best for me, what is best for my kids, and now it looks like I won't be able to SMACK them, not that I do anymore, they have grown out of it and know the boundries, but who will be the first parent prosecuted for abuse because they smacked their child, parent in jail, no money to pay the mortgage, child in a social welfare home,a family destroyed:

Crack - here is one example of MP's reaction to public outcry.

Exide in Lower Hutt storing hazardous waste in business zone abutting residential.

Myself and an OSH scientist visited the site and assessed the occupational and environmental/public health concerns raised by neighbours. Procedures were in place in the event of a 'problem' (read spillage) occurring with storage of the waste material.

OSH and myself were therefore not overly concerned - Exide were relocating the material to a more suitable location and doing so as quickly as possible while resource consent was being processed to store at the other location.

Incidentally, storage of the material up to 500 tonnes was a permitted activity anyway.....

Yet Trevor Mallard jumps on the bandwagon in a newspaper article berating Council and saying they had been complacent etc and that neighbours were justified having health concerns.....very emotive stuff......but since when was Trevor an expert on public health ? And did he bother to contact Council first before spouting his big mouth off in the paper ? No.

All good for securing votes though I guess, which ultimately is what most, if not all politicians are there for eh. I don't believe he even contacted Council after the article to follow through with it.

Stick to sports and stadiums Trev......actually, no, you can't even get that right.

Deano you are correct, at least he got the Problam sorted, It was an easy fix for him, no party considerations, and it fitted in with the greens.

Shit wouldn't it be great to see a politician go to the same extremes and have to take on his own party in the process, with regard to the the Smacking, Herbal remidies,Law and Order, And don't get me going on Education! portfolio's.

Yup - that's the apathy the Pollies bank on to do whatever the fuck they want...

Q for you - How big was the PM's payrise last time around? Or the time before that - or the time before...

Or - to flesh out my point more - what was it... relative to the average payrise? Now - suddenyl it's a question you can answer... but is it a big deal - to you?

Is it a political issue though - enough to get the chucked out of office? What about the perks? What's the total package worth?

Annualy... and ongoing (i.e. in perpetuity)? There is a LOT of money going into the pockets of the pollies for sitting there and bitching about shit - and by shit I mean trivia - each other, what the honourable member's tie looks like etc... WTF?

Sort the real shit out. I don't mind maying too money to the Pollies - but I want value back. I hope the definition of "reasonable force" does get included in the Bill - because Sue Bradford has (kindly) offered to withdraw the bill if that happens...

THAT's something I look forward to.

The other thing I want is the cops to come down fucken hard on child abusers - they're giving good people like me a bad name.

[QUOTE=Lou Girardin;955359]I think it was Marx who called religion the "opium of the people"

Now I cannot remember if it was Karl Marx, or Lenin, that said:
Communisim has nothing to fear from democracy and capitalisim, (look at the new Rushin today) as it shall emplode from within!!.Not an exact quote:

But to a large degree democracy is a state of a countries mind set:
Here in NZ we don't even have a constitution instructing how we want to be governed, and even if we did, NZ being NZ would always be wanting to change it to some poor minority group:

I think a basic constitution which states politicians can only stand for Two terms, then out, and no Govt super scheme, and no govt privillages, etc etc etc.

All govt policy makers (career pariamentry office whallers) have a ten year appointment :

Then bring in the New Blood.

Voting should be for the candidate, and do away with the parties.

The winning candidates should then form a governing group based on a once only public appointment of candidates for portfolios.

IE: mr & mrs Joe Bloggs go into the courthouse and fill in names against the ministerial posts, on a court document:

Those with the most names in common win.

But hey dreams are free.

With 600 working kiwis emigrating each week and 800 Immigrants/Refugees arriving each week, It appears that National is loosing 200 votes a week.
Because all these immigrants/refugees are arriving into the country to sit on benefits and never needing to work.
They will obviously return the favour and vote Labour in the next election, to maintain their working free lifestyle.

The country is being destroyed. The standards are dissapearing. The Police Force is no longer. The Air Force is no longer. The Corrections system is highly corrupt. The health system is struggling. The education system is under funded. The OECD rating of the country is slipping back toward the third world countries.

Sure you can march on parliament, but it will have no effect.

Labour has shown so many times before, they do what they want and they answer to nobody.
They are exempt from whatever they decide, as no party has ever been before.
They broke the law in their election overspending, so they rewrote the law to make that overspending legal. While National paid back every cent of their overspending. Even though Nationals overspending was minor compared to Labours.

To be honest, The best thing you can do - Get yourself a good trade or qualification behind you.
When you've had enough and the ship starts sinking, you can always bail for that liferaft called Australia. Aussie will accept workers.

I've often thought about the move across the ditch and I see it as a very real option. I'm kind of keen on the idea. It's just the whole process of relocating, new job, new house etc. If I was a beneficiary, Then NZ would be my one and only option.

I'd much rather be a worker amongst a population of other workers. With taxes coming back to benefit workers. Not to pay for immigrants to sit at home unconditionally.
