View Full Version : Islanders are fat?!
Indiana_Jones

"Pacific Islanders are the fattest people on the planet, according to the latest figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
A WHO report published recently listed countries according to the proportion of citizens who were obese. New Zealand was 17th on the league table. There are more than 190 countries in the world.
The top four – Nauru, Micronesia, the Cook Islands and Tonga – were all in the Pacific, and 90 per cent or more of each of their populations was defined as obese."

Nice to know nearly 70 percent of us are fat here in kiwiland, I'm definitely in the podgy category but trying to fix that! Having my two weeins piled on my pounds but no more excuses. Lets face it - we get fat because foods yum and exercising sucks. Time to do something about diet/exercise before diabete's and heart disease kills us off early.

According to the standard BMI calculation, I'm currently obese.
In the best shape I've ever been in, at 10% bodyfat eight years ago, I was overweight and within 2 points of obesity.

Yeh BMI ain't always right... when England won the rugby cup thingy they tested Jonny Wilkinson and found out he was medically obese or something.
BMI takes no consideration of muscle / fat ratio.

Using BMI I would guess that most professional sportsmen (e,g All Blacks) would be considered obese.
BMI is only meant as an indicator and other factors must be considered as well when using it.
I am 2 points from obese as well... perhaps I could stand to lose 5 kilos max but really... it's been turned into a big thing so the fitness/diet/health products industry can profit off us

It just feeds the "GET SLIM EASY" industry. The best one I saw was one the other night on TV. Some guy, a Chemist with 40 years experience (in what?), claimed that he could help people lose weight and lead a healthy life. He had a testimonial from some saying they'd lost 20 kilo's! - in 14 months. *conditional to an excercise and diet programme - gym membership not included* Well fark me! I nearly sent the man a cheque for $400 on the spot! Excercise and watch what I eat AND his great programme and I could lose all that weight! **TUI TUI TUI TUI**

Wait, that's not a good thing, is it? Better eat more pies :innocent:
Many of my fellow uni students will probably be in the same boat as me -- hours of study, a couple of part-time jobs at odd hours, lectures and the occasional overindulgence at a bar means there's not always the time or inclination to eat regularly.
A friend of mine who was an international student from Sichuan told me there's a slang term in Mandarin for an overseas student -- it kind of means `instant noodle'. The students go overseas to UK, US, NZ etc and it's the first time they've lived away from home and don't know how to cook, so they stock their apartments with instant noodles from floor to ceiling and live off them. She said that her older friend who came back actually feels sick at the sight of instant noodles now :D. In a similar fashion, the Kiwis who head down south to go to the cow colleges in Dunners (:dodge:) probably don't get much nutritional benefit from a diet of Watties baked beans and spaghetti -- although a significant beer ration probably boosts the fat intake somewhat ^_^

He's right, you know, in most cases. I used to be the fattest little kid... now years of playing football (until kneecap went like a Honda cylinder head and broke) and running for the bus (until I got a bike :D), and most of all, not eating pies and fish & chips (unless it's from Kaiaua :D:D) every day meant I'm now at a much healthier weight. But the aforementioned other pressures of everyday life mean now I'm a bit under where I should be, but still probably better than where I was.

Islanders are fat. Well the person who discovered that gem must have a Masters Degree in the Bleeding Obvious.
Maybe their next research should be to fly to the sun with a thermometer to see if it is hot.
Any wonder why? I dropped my Kids at the movies yesterday and had a little wait outside before collecting them. Interesting observations. I couldn't believe the laziness of the local Bros. The threatre entrance is up one floor. That's right one simple flight of steps. There is a lift for disabled and elderly types, but guess who were the only users I saw. Not the grannies, not the kiddies. Nope, it seems Islanders aged from 5 to 25 are not capable of climbing one flight of steps!. I'm not playing the racist card, it was just disappointing to witness. I couldn't believe it when teenagers, supposedly in the prime of fitness queued! That's right it's a small lift so they would wait while all the whities walked on past up the steps wondering what the queue was for. You can't help those who wont help themselves.

Hit a few of them have you Dover??
On the pitch, yeah.
And you'd think a skinny (at the time) white cunt like me would be the one fucking off in Speedie's fucktruck amped up on morphine.
And guess what? the club never got the socks or jerseys back either.

What do you weigh now, then? You're a girl, right? Perhaps it was just water retention...
This one time, you know, I weighed myself before and after taking a dump. 1.5kg, baby. Oh yeah.

na just being really anal about it, i had to do something i was 94.6kgs and im only 5'10", that day i made a decision that changed my life
no blue top milk
not butter jams or spreads
no take away meals
only use trim milk,
alterfitial sweetner
and eat very low fat meals,
up and go in the morning, last me until afternoon..
eat lots of sushi,
main fat source = avacado,
if u eat like this, and keep fat intake to under 14-15 gms a day
you loose weight very fast, your body needs 20gms-30gms, to reproduce cells
etc, as fat is very important, anymore than this and it stores it for later
if u keep it under, u use it all, and burn on your body wat else it needs,
no exercise needed, (helps to though) depends if u want to loose weight or fat, two diferent things,
havnt been sick in 6 months, and first time in 10 years i ever seen my abs
i feel really healthy, and my acne has cleared up alot,

WOOT! oh well... whatever happens, happens lol... im okay with my body, not that being 10kgs even lower wouldnt help! (due to what fish said earlier)
