Oh please work on my bike - 4 posts and an attitude to boot. How do you know Speedie doesn't own a bike shop???

Did you stop to think about that, how do you I don't???

Good luck with the job hunt, you've shown some initiative but check the attitude it won't help you any.

My advice to you mate is this......save the attitude.
The bike industry is notoriously hard to get in to at the best of times.
Front up IN PERSON to all of your local shops with a positive attitude and put your name in 'the frame'.

We get literally dozens of young guys fronting up for work etc, only some of them get spoken to at any length, and they're the ones with the right attitude.

Best of luck.

Seem like a marvelous future employee to me. What with those language skills and biker relations. I shall hold my recomendation to my freinds high profile motorcycle shop who is currently looking for an apprentice/spanner hand. The first post was a bit of a jibe really, but your answer confirmed my suspicion.
Just remember that just about every motorcycle shop in the country has at least one member on here.

Guess there goes that chance for him ha

if you look at search4jobs.co.nz (i think its advertised there) red baron is advertising for an apprentice with 4 years secondary education/ mito course.

Off memory someone else on here was looking for something like this , cant remember who but if you read this give it a shot .
Edit: zeocen was the one .

Well there is a young man who really wants to get ahead!
Dude, you might be a fantastic mechanic, or you might be crap, I don't know. But I do know that if you think that attitude will get you anywhere, you are sadly mistaken.
Good luck with your job searching.

Good luck with getting into the bike industry
I remember the days when the apprentice, did all the shit jobs, clean up,sweep up,get smoko & the places I have worked at here was no way they would answer back as the would get tarred & feathered,or hung from a hoist for the day,or send them around town getting cans of compression, recirculating water, chequered paint etc
Ohh those where the days
Could you imagine getting away with all that in this PC bullshit age

Hey Jeaves, yeah it definitely was me! Thanks for the thoughts.
I also saw this job but I haven't got any previous mechanical experience or a mito course so I was looking for a foot in the door in the way of handling parts/warehouse area etc.. I didn't think they would take someone with my lack of qualifications :(

Seems the jobs are slow at the moment but I'm not giving up! Gotta just keep on findin' and tryin' I guess!

You went to school right??....well you've got a half the requirements of an apprentice.....go and apply for it dude , if you worried about mechanical knowledge bring a six pack around to my house and i'll sort you out on the basics and you can see whats what when i strip the RG's engine down for piston replacement.

You have ample opportunity to take! Auckland's bike shops are impossible to get a booking with at the moment, so they must ALL be short of staff.

Learn how to work on bikes over 10 years old, then go to AMPS and help their workshop staff out..........

If that is true, then it contradicts my research of the last two weeks, which says that you cannot get a bike into a workshop for at least fourteen days - IF that shop actually has the capability to work on a bike of your vintage.

Really you aren't that anonymous...any bike shop that has a Benjamin who is 17 coming to them for an apprenticeship would start asking questions.

Besides, it isn;t too late to pull your head in start making mates. You will find that there are some people here who could really help you if you showed the intelligence...As was previously noted, almost every bike shop in NZ has memebers here.

Hmm! I might take you up on that offer!
Yeah, it's more that I have no knowledge of motorcycle mechanics and that's what I want to start doing and perhaps eventually paint jobs.. I wanna get my hands dirty for starters (even if that means parts/warehouse, we've all gotta start somewhere!).

At the ripe age of 25 it's a weird time to decide to have a pretty major career change but it's just one of those things I guess, I might apply for that Red Baron job just to see how far I can get and then I'll know what I need to work on in order to be 'desirable' to employers!

Thanks for the offer on the mechanical basics help! I'll definitely let you know about that!

I was starting to feel a bit sorry for this young fellow there at the beginning.... but that didn't last long reading the rest of the thread.

Anyone who was seriously looking for an apprenticeship would not come on here and openly abuse the people who are the ones that (a) they could potentially get a job or pointers from and (b) are potential customers!!

Time to grow up and lose the attitude, who in their right mind would hire someone with outbursts like that....

Good luck zeo....keep on trying! If you want to know what it's gonna take to get a job in the industry, then definately ask the potential employers even if they aren't looking to hire you. Enthusiasm and desire to learn is important, and people skills don't go a miss either as is clearly shown in this thread! Any business looking for someone for a starting position would have to want to employ someone like you over someone like the plonker that started this thread!

i am 26, and i am nearly finished my electrical apprenticeship.

i really dont like pulling & terminating cables for a living though. i was hoping to get into something motorcycle related too... but clowns like this make it hard to make a good impression. i mean imagine if he were to go to the bike shop owner:
guy "hey yous give me a job i can fix bikes up good. dont need a apprenticeship because i can do mean skids"
owner " ummm no thanks"
guy "i was just trying to start an argument i already have work in film industry"(ticket sales at cinema??)
owner "ok then. i am busy, so please leave"
guy (sitting on fireblade and making vroom noises)"fuck you au"
(gets off and bike falls over. bolts out of shop onto his rotary 250(notice how a lot of rotary enthusiasts are idiots?))

15 minutes later.....

owner "yes i need a new fairing for a fireblade......... no it wasnt in a crash..... some little cunt dropped it right in the shop....... yes right in the shop........what do you mean thats not covered!!!!.......... ah jesus!!!!"

me "excuse me i was wondering if you have any sort of part time work or work experience i could do? i would be willing to work after my regular job, or on weekends, for nothing just to get some experience. maybe you will like my neat appearance, good work ethic, and the fact that i have dedication enough to complete other apprenticeships, to offer me some sort of employment oh kind bike shop owner?"

owner: (starts beating me with a set of ape hangers) "fuck off you little cunt!! arseholes like you should die"

me"?!?!? okay then." (commits suicide due to deep depression from being rejected by a member of the bike community)
