Well the article in KR covering Dennis Irelands plans to reinstate the Dunedin bike street races interested me greatly.
I remember as a kid going to the event every year and being gobsmacked at the speed they'd get down the "straight". I'd love to see it happening again, although they are proposing a different location.
Who here'd be keen to travel down there for a weekends racing around one of New Zealands most historic citys?
I'd be a starter if I actually raced a bike

The Otago Motorcycle Club is helping organise it, they were trying for this year and the Council were all keen, but the was still going to be too late to get everything together and organised, in time (finding helpers and gear etc), so they are trying for next year... I'll try to keep you posted as I fond out stuff through the club.
This weekend 25th Feb is the classic car street meet round the "Oval street track"...

It was held down in the industrial area utilizing Portsmouth Drive as the straight (with a bend) in it. VERY wide streets and a series of about 8 90deg turns. The "straight" was fucking long and the speeds real high.
The new one is proposed down in the wharf area from what I can gather. Apparently good surface with heaps of run off.

Isn't it about time Dunedin actually had a proper track? Surely the car and motorcycle clubs must be looking into it. I know Nelson are trying to find some land for a track somewhere. What an excellent South Island series you could have with 5 tracks.

The classic car street-racing is on this weekend in Dunners, 26+ degrees and not a cloud to be seen:yes: .
Off for a warp-factor 3 pootle on my Tequila Sunrise (T-Sport), too nice a day to sit around.

That "Festival of Speed" car circuit they run would be abso-fucking-lutley stunning on a bike. You'd want a very quick machine and there's probably not enough run off but MY GOD, what a cool layout for a street race.

Works at the IOM?!
Was it the Macau GP where you could see the riders leaning against concrete walls at warp factor 6 trying for the perfect line?

Just finished meeting at the Otago Motorcycle Club... The reason they couldn't get it this year was resource concent being the lengthy process it is on a good day... and need more time for it. So hopefully will be all done for next year... Kewl :scooter: :Punk:
