Just wondering if anyone knows the biker that was knocked off yesterday on Hillsborough Road, Auckland?
It was a serious accident and wondering how the biker is? Hopefully recovering comfortably in hospital?????
Police, Fire & Ambo's all in attendance... Looked like a car pulled out in front of bike and the bike nailed the passenger door.. Big indent in the car and the bike itself was a write off, without any doubt!
Really brings it home.. when you see something that serious..

:( recover soon... rest up well...
brings the message home... yes, ride safe, have enough room to move. Don't do anything stupid as there is enough others doing it for us... Look ahead think ahead not just one cage but several... Spect the unexpected...

Poor guy/girl, hope they are OK.
I assume that ACC will now put this into the stats for bike accidents? Damn dangerous two wheeled hoons. Nevermind the flat-headed, bird-brained, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, half-wit who decided to pull out in front of them.
*Sigh* Rant finished now, thank you for your attention. We will now return to your regularly scheduled program.

Its my opinion that U-turns should be illegal.
I may be biased because I was knocked off by a u-turner 2 years ago... but ... I think they are a very dangerous irresponsible manouver anywhere in urban areas.
I also believe it should be illegal not to indicate (all actions) and more emphasis should be placed on enforcement of this. (eg pull out from parking space)

I actually agree with you, U turns should not be a legal manouver...however there is no way it could really be policed, poeple still get smacked off bikes at intersections because poeple dont give way...I dont think a rider will be bothering who was right or wrong when it is he or she lieing injured in the road, although at least there is a chance the prick will get nailed by the cops.

Thanks for the update. That was outside our front door (well almost) and I was a bit concerned it looked a bit more serious than that.
Your one lucky biker.

I totally agree.
I too was hit by a U-turning woman driver Oct 05 while doing 50k up College Hill in Auckland. Cost me 18 mths income, 16 mths of pain (and worse, not being able to ride my harley), a leg full of titanium and stainless steel, and a limp and pins & needles for life. Took 18 months our of our lives and she got a $250 fine, 6 mths disqual and was pinged $3k to somehow repay me for knocking on the door of $70k lost due to her idiocy.
Should be banned and, yes, heavily policed!
How many downed innocent riders does it have to take before someone sits up and takes notice!

In many countries, U-turns are illegal -- America (or parts thereof) definitely are. One of my dad's work colleagues came over from America when I was a bairn and was sitting in the car when dad did a U-turn right outside a police station -- American bloke was horrified! Right outside a police station! Was very surprised to hear that it is in fact perfectly legal.

I had to make one of my rare trips down Dominion Rd yesterday, is this the worst piece of road in Auck now?
Do all the Chinese signs make the denizens think they're in Shanghai, and drive accordingly?
The horror, the horror.

Add another. A U-turner cost me a summer in full leg cast years ago. U-turns are useful so I doubt they will ever be banned. It's the looking and INDICATING that counts. Prick I was following pulled hard left against curb and appeared to come to a stop in a marked car space, as I was about to continue on passed him. He never indicated the left move but worse never indicated what he really intended- a U-turn to his right back onto and across the roadway so he could say hello to his Mum & Dad he spotted on the other side of the road! Bastard. The Police need to be incented to enforce failure to indicate. I would happily welcome demerits for failure to indicate. That's the true cause of most mishaps on m/ways where idiots change lanes and wonder why they collide with others 'didn't he mindread that I was changing lanes officer' And pricks at round abouts.
Get well whoever you are.

Yeah, if they'd only indicate and look over their right shoulder BEFORE turning.

Yeah, if they'd only indicate and look over their right shoulder BEFORE turning.
I agree they're usually too lazy to turn their heads and check the blindspot!!
It only takes a second but most drivers don't bother!
We should get a large truck and paint a motorbike on the front of it then paint the rest of it neutral camoflage colours and see if any body pulls out or u-turns in front of it ,I bet after collecting it they wont again!!!

dont blame the u turn. blame the c*#ts not using their neck. An 88 yr old did me in with a u turn, and said it was my fault...until the court told him otherwise, and disqualified him for 6mths (later quashed when said ancient wrinkly wanker pointed out he had no prior record of being a shit driver).
End of the day its up to us to keep an eye out for arseholes trying to kill us...looking for people posturing to do a manoever, people with wheels turned poised to attack, bla bla, thats why we're better road users....hopefully.

Just got home from visiting my mate in Auckland hospital. Once again a motorcyclist taken out by an idiot, impatient car driver. His right leg is smashed in three places.
Last weekend he was clocking 260 k's plus up the front straight of Paeroa. Now he is going to be recovering from this for up to 18 mths after doing 60 k's on the road. Akld club champs are due to start and he was also heading down the line in a few weeks to do the hillclimb. Looks like the race bike will be gathering dust in the shed for a while. Fkn typical when we had just got it set up and running really well.

We went and saw him yesterday, and he's not a happy chappy understandably. It's going to be a long road to recovery. I'm gutted for him.

You should know better. It happened to you and you could not avoid the accident. I had no way to avoid mine either.
In one breath you blame the "old c**t and in the next you blame the rider (yourself).
The blame must lie in the manouver. There is no way out of some situations and thats why its banned in some countries (like cellphone useage).

Any news on the court case for the driver of the car? has he pleaded guilty?
I know another case that the driver was completely at fault that pleaded innocent.. unbelievable!

Not sure what's happening to the driver yet.
Lance is on the road to recovery after a number of unpleasant surgical procedures and even nastier injuries. Still a funny cunt though, even when he's off his face on pain relief.
I guess all the anally retentive race stewards around the country will be breathing easy for a few months or more.
Heal up quick buddy, I need a team mate!

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I'm looking for witnesses to this accident.
Can anyone help? PM me please.
Having lived on Hillsborough road, I know that people seem to drive insanely on it for some reason. I frequently saw bad smashes where Richardson rd spilled out on Hillsborough, that one spot is perhaps the worst.
