Right, after once again almost becoming a hood ornament on a nice big silver Audi (bloody HUGE one) who failed to see me, pulled out infront of me and only noticed me after driving a while with me level with his front left tire where I had headed to avoid hitting him. Im once again thinking about the whole visability thing. (in this case I had headlight on, in full gear most of it red, sun above not behind, no cars behind me etc etc etc) I get a little sick of this, I do between 200 and 250kms a week and I know its just a matter of time before my luck runs out, so it motivates me to think a little.

Heres my new idea, since whenever theres a cop car about, all cars slow down. Even if its just a roofrack with the blue and red on each side. So my new idea is going to be to cover the back of my mirrors in tape, one blue and one red so it kinds looks cop like (only kinda) and see if it has any effect.
Crazy? probably but I will keep you posted.

...or ride a large white BMW, wear a white helmet, and have one of those chopper-guard flags on the back of your bike. Oh, and wear a high-vis vest.

Doesn't work. They still "don't see you". (BTW the flag was not a success. Disintergrated at speed)

You would be supprised... thething was it was a black bike, people thought for a long time it was a mufty cop bike ... was funny

Sounds like a feasable idea, try it out, if it doesnt work, use LED's ;) might be a little illegal, but say it was for 'Research'

Perhaps my one moved to wellers... closest I have ever come to hitting a cage... I stopped across his front...thank god he bloody decided to stop some time... I couldn't put my left leg down

I'll do 250km + per work week...just read the traffic... all I can really say, and I believe in full black threatening cagers... tinted visor etc. Your only other method is to look like a cop.

Yes, illegal... I have wondered about doing that.. .for making splitting a little errrr... easier...

Wear a yellow fluro jacket. With the word, "Polite" printing on front and back.

I wear all black, and assume they don't see me.

I just avoid other traffic.

I have a theory that people naturally look out for "threats" subconscously. I have an MX helmet with 2 big ugly eyes on top and when wearing it on my daily commute I was never pulled infront of. My thought is that cop colours are one of those threats people have programmed into there heads.

Its probably bollocks but a bit of insulation tape, some time and a can of bourbon and Im ready. My main concern is that the only people who will show real concentration and interest with be anyother user of blue and red ontop of there govt supplied vehicle

I've considered this as a solution - painting a really threatenng face on my helmet with big angry eyes and a crazy snarling mouth. I betcha people would actually see me that way! Pass the masking tape and bourbon, Timber!
