Whats all this then? Some sort of trackers trolling through the site adding stuff to the search engines??? WTF?

Yes, "spiders" are content indexing programs used by Yahoo, Google and the like to index site content. That's how Google or Yahoo can show you stuff when you do a search. They have to come along and find it first so they know to tell you about it.

The site owner can block robots : then your site doesn't appear in search engine results. Which may be good or bad.

And that's just this site. Multiply that by the number of websites in the world!. That's a LOT of spiders. Visualise them. Big hairy ones with long legs. Those nasty ones with big bloated bodies. Millions and millions of scuttling spiders. Arachnophobia? Wozz that?

Sorry to revive old threads, but these things are looking at user profiles too. What's the deal with that, surely they can't get any info from our profiles?
