That's the K1200S which was only recently launched in Bavaria, new suspension & all sorts of things.

But from http://www.cmgonline.com here's a "What happened next" photo ;)

Did they think about the fact that the bike looks like an insect with two antennae and a compound eye????

That thing is ugly with those mirrors!

What?
12th August 2004, 20:05
What happened next?? It might have been next, but it ain't the same bike or rider...

Did anyone happen to see Brian Bernard riding the R1100S around Manfeild when they first came out? (1998 or 99?) He was scraping the cylinder heads and doing very respectable times indeed.

We've got a mate who rides a mid-70's R75/5 that he's had since new - he's surprised a few young guys over Paekak Hill in his time. ("who's this white haired old git on this poxy old BMW shitter?" you can see them thinking....before they've seen him ride)

It obviously wasn't the same bike, but it was almost certainly from the same launch in Bavaria in which the first photo was probably taken.

geez, he must be about to loose the cylinder heads at that angle! I'm surprised that the still run that Boxer Cup in Germany. They really must be proud of their engineering to showcase it in an arena of such poor performance

He's either dragging something on the left side, or its the stand holding the bike up for photos

Yeah BMW are going MotoGP with a 3 cyl apparently. Some rumours suggest that they could be buying KTM's abandoned project but others say that they are developing their own engine. Good on 'em I say. That new K1200S sounds good...

I take it you guys realise that this bike is a water cooled inline four..? That's right, no pots hanging in the breeze! 160bhp they reckon.

yeah in line for like the rest of the k series, but its still a bmw, i find the power oin father in laws k12rs very linar, and boring, no nice power band

I've heard the engine is actually across the frame, like a normal bike.......not like the old k series...

Posh Tourer :P
14th August 2004, 09:01
Yes indeed. A low mounted across the frame four. They were very proud of how they'd got it mounted so low while still giving good ground clearance

It's called torque, and makes things good for touring :D

You lot and your peaky japanese fours... get yourselves two strokes - or a KwakaZ1 triple

Looks similar to the front end on the Britten

BM copied the Hossack front end from the 70's. It's also got 9-way electrically adjustable suspension (preload and damping) at both ends. Heavy though, 238 kg's.
But why do the Germans have such crap paintjobs? It's almost as bad as the K1.

Did I hear more biased BMW bashing?

CBR1100XX 223kg dry 144HP
K1200S 233kg dry 167HP

+10kg, +23HP. Low COG has been mentioned in many reviews. My R65 LS is 196kg wet. Yep that K1200S is heavy, but so what? so is everything else in that field. Hyabusa/ZX12R are 216/217kg. I'd bet on the beemer being the easiest to pick up of the lot.

As for the paint job, it comes in plain Grey, plain Blue, as well as the technicoloured ones. So is that paint job any worse than, say, a CBR1000F? or the FXR? or the RG150's various schemes? Even the red/black CBR1000 is pretty poor in my opinion.

The K1 wasnt a bad paintjob, it was "unique" styling.....

ofcourse abemmer rider would say that..... But i consider the blackbird to weigh a fucking ton too.....

lets compare this then

CBR1000 (2004) 174kgs with 152hp (at wheel)

I like the CBR1000 Black and grey, now thats a mean paint job.....

I compared to the CBR1100XX because I think they are similar bikes. The Hyabusa and ZX12R are more sports, and the CBR1000 further still

Two Smoker
15th August 2004, 20:16
True..... But the CBR1100 is no longer cutting technology.....the ZX12-R is more a representative of it and i would think i as an adversary to the K1200S (due to the ZX-12R being slight more touring orientated than the busa)

The Honda replacement for the CBR1100XX is due out, ohh, about now!

Hey,
No fair, I used to scrape both rocker covers on me old R90s, untill I had to buy new ones when they wore out, $230 a side prevents a whole lot of scraping, let me tell you!

Coldkiwi
16th August 2004, 14:58
interesting front end.. but what serious sports bike doesn't have the radial stoppers these days? Is that REALLY a concept GP bike!?

Cajun
16th August 2004, 15:01

Thats impresive, the shiny spot on the right hand tappit cover looks like it needs a knee slider on it too.

Nah,that'd just take up to much valuble ground clearance,I only ever got my R75/5 down to the rocker covers 3 times and just about filled my pants each time, the last time was while I was in the process of crashing it :eek5:

That corner on the first page will sure make some interesting riding.

That will teach the fallen guy for waisting his time on a BMW. With all the new concept bikes with things like front weel swingarms and shit like that the next thing that will come out is a Harley superbike
