Both my wife and i are learning to ride and this is the first weekend we have ventured off our quiet streets and around the city. On Saturday we rode around mission bay then to mount Eden, which was a great introduction to riding in traffic. Today again around mission bay, then New Market and around the domain later this afternoon. Being very new and not knowing how the two of as would react, its funny that 2 hours since we arrived home, we still cant get the smiles off our faces!
One Observation from today:
Amazing though how people will cut in front of motorcycles either from lack of attention, or just arrogance.
Are there any riders here in Auckland willing to take a mentor role from time to time? We just want confirmation that we aren't learning bad habits or practices.

good effort - will have a 50cc job soon, and teaching the missus how to ride. Give me a pm if you want someone to tag along in the weekends and check for bad habbits as i will need an excuse to steal her bike.

Two Observations ...
1) You don' believe in doing this in increasing complexity do you! Mision Bay on a Saturday !!! Newmarket and the Domain on a Sunday !!!??? I con't think of any other two places where nutcases come out for the day without their brains. For god's sake watch for ...
- Pullouts into traffic from parking spaces
- U turns by 7 seven cars all trying for the same parking space outside the Mission Bay Cafes
- Kids running into the road
2) Don't ever let those Ginnies get that close together unsupervised. Since they are obviously of different genders and only in their adolesence, there's not telling what they will get up to ... and probably in public too!

Yeah it was a bit nuts, but a good experience for us. Left me thinking about the whole graduated license idea. We are over 25, have class 1 licenses, no accident, yet still need to abide by the graduated license scheme. Which is fine, but then shouldnt some of the people out there who have been driving poorly for the last 25 years have to sit a test once in awhile?
Just a thought, I mean I would hate to sit a road test again in a car as well, but some people out there might just need it!

Heh, doesn't matter if I wreck it. It was chosen because it was 10 times more comfortable than the cheaper helmets I tried. Also I used to race cars before I moved to NZ, and always wore Shoei.
