Just a quick update to anyone with a passing interest & thanks for helping me with the various thoughts running around my head over the whole idea of the inevitability of pair bonding, engagement rings & combining finances.

I took her to Port Douglas for a week & proposed on the beach under the moonlight. (Aww :love2: ) Decided not to give her the ring there & then, though I did suss out the one she wanted the week before. Turned out a good idea as we went to grab it yesterday & there were 2 more she took a fancy to. They were ½ & 1/3rd the price respectively. I waited with baited breath but of course she decided on the original  , but at least I was prepared & I guess apathetic about the cost by then.

I’d like to thank my sponsors Hutt-Mana Elektrickery Trust for their valued contribution. (For non wgtnions they paid out a chunk to residents when they wound up).

hey good on ya dude. Despite my own dismal failure I stand in awe of the sanctity of the wedding vows :not: :not: :not: . When you have the right woman that is
I hope the relationship carries on as it has started out.

Thanks guys, no I wasn’t really as nervous as I thought I’d be. We were both pretty tired but I suggested we should go for a walk on the beach, suspecting she’d say another time, but she said ok so I thought, phew! I guess this is it.

No I think it’s something in the electricity!

. . . . I hope the relationship carries on as it has started out.

Continues as it started out? Well we were friends (& only friends) for ~ 6 years & she wanted to leave Auckland so I said to come stay with me which she did for a year. She then decided or planned as women seem to that maybe we would work together. So she moved out & played her card. Oh I resisted at first, put up a hell of a fight  , but eventually I relented.

Must be something in the Finlandia Vodka! :msn-wink:

bloody good on ya mate! I went through those nerves about 8 months ago now but what a great feeling! My cunning plans had to have a last minute change to when my potential romantic spot on Bastion Point was occupied by guys who appeard to be on Periodic Detention doing the weed cutting!

I reckon the hardest part of the transition from g/f to fiancee was asking her Dad!

Yeah I never bothered asking her dad, I figured that if he got shirty about it later I'd explain that it is not in my culture & that I identified with the Indian culture (what do you mean I don't look it? How culturally insensitive!) & ask about what sort of Dowry I should expect.

I reckon she’d at least be worth 3 goats, ½ a doz chickens & a few handfuls of trinkets.

I had to ask my wife's Dad while wearing PJs. He couldn't stop laughing, the bastard.

PS here is the ring we ended up getting.

As we drited off to sleep I murmured: Gee I can't wait to see what you've bought me. . .

Very nice. That will leave a lovely and identifiable dent in your forehead.

Yeah well I've already got one of those as a nipper from when my dad used to carry me around on his shoulders, & one day forgot to duck going through a doorway. Makes helmet selection interesting.
