Ok, just the mandatory hello. Was searching for mods for a Magna's exhaust and this site came up so thought it was worth joining to try and find people in Christchurch that like motorcycles. I don't think there are many people in their 20's though that like cruisers and hogs (or could afford one).

Ive had a Yamaha XV250 S, and just bought a Honda Magna Custom today.

well, I for one used to be in my 20s and used to ride a cruiser, just a wee bit bigger than yours (Virago 750), but now that I've hit my 30s (errr well and truely some might say) I've found the Buell much more to my liking.

And my comment about age refers to the fact most people in their 20's dont have the money for a bike or aren't into bikes *cough*boy racers*cough*

I got one guy I know who has a scooter.. but it can't even hit 50k. Not my idea of a group cruise to Sumner :D

Hahah, on the way to work someone pulled up next to me at a stop light and rolled down his window and went "Nice bike! What size it!?"

So thinking meh, what the hell... I yelled out "twenty five hundered" and then the lights changed and I left him in the dust of my bike :D

He caught up with me way later down the road when I was stopped at a stop light and he yelled out "Twenty five hundred?! You mean two thousand five hundred!?"

"Yeah, it's got big bore out aftermarket cylinders for a harley in it" and then the light changed again and i whizzed off and never saw him again.

Ahhh.. such a perfect crime... :D

But that is rather insulting to bikes ... to say they only go as fast as a hyosung with 2500cc .... but then again you did say its a harley engine.

I prefer to tell them its a 150 and watch their disbelief...

I get asked all the time what size cc is my bike.

I turn it around....... and say "What size do you think it is?"

When they give it a go and say... what size they really think it is :whistle:

I smile, and tell them what it is.....
Their jaw drops and say "Your kidding, it is a big bike and its ONLY a 250 WOW"

Many a time they think my bike is a 500, 750 and a few times they have thought it was a 1100cc bike. Only a couple of times have they actually gotten it correct.

Yes I even get that from a few folks who even ride and know their bikes........

Only on the rego sticker on my bike, does it state, what size cc rating my bike is....
Plus the colour my bike is painted confuses them as well.
It is painted the colour some HD's have come out with.

Things like how and when to oil the chain, how to know when to use fuel reserve and how to use the fuel reserve, and how can you tell how much petrol you have in a Magna, as my Virago you just look in and can see but the Magna theres a plate that blocks your view.

Lubing (on the average): Lube your chain every 500 kms...... and clean the chain completely every 3000km and relube it.

Reserve tank: All of a sudden your bike will jerk/shudder a bit...... switch it to reserve. Do you have a 'trip meter' if so reset it everytime you fill up......

I get about 200kms give or take a few kms either side...... depending on whether Im doing city or open road riding before going over to reserve.

Check your manual re reserve as it should say in the book.

How long does reserve last? On my virago it pretty much cut out in the middle of the street once and I managed to pull over and fiddle with the switch until I could at least get the motor back on, but couldn't really read the positions. Luckily there was a petrol station a half block up and I managed to inch my way to it going about 20k when the traffic cleared.

Hey there Dyers.

I've just purchased a 96 Magna and I'm looking for any excuse to go for a ride...check this...my wife asked if I wanted to go watch her mother play lawn bowls!!! I exclaimed that I'd only go if I could ride my bike (expecting the answer 'NO') and was pleasantly surprised when she said OK. So there I was cruising off to watch the mother-in-law play lawn bowls...Yes, that is desperate! :shit: But I enjoyed the ride!!!

So if you want to cruise to Sumner or further...just let me know. (BUT I should let you know that I'm still on my learners for another month and a half...)

I'll post some photos of my bike when I get a chance...have fun!
