View Full Version : Auckland: Saturday March 3rd ride

beyond
27th February 2007, 19:06
Right, it's been a long time that some sort of ride was organised out of South Auckland on a weekend, so this Saturday I'm looking at a shortish ride at a moderate pace.

The details of the ride will be available at the meeting point for obvious reasons but we will meet at the Autobahn on the left after the Papakura motorway exit and before the Drury turnoff. Will meet at 10.30am and depart at 11.00am sharp so there is no excuse for being late if you like your sleep in :)

I have ridden the route we will be taking two weeks ago and there is a good mix of roads. The ride will be around 160-200kms and I expect will be over in around 3 hours depending on how long the lunch stop is, which of course depends on turnout.

Lunch will be at Kaiuau fush and chup shop.

This will not be a strict organised ride but a chance to mix and mingle with fellow KB'ers without taking up your whole day. Have fun, ride carefully and as mentioned the route will be discussed so that people will know where to go. Please ride within your own comfort zone and if you feel like a blast, then feel free to go for it and just wait at the next intersection if you are not sure where to go. If anyone does happen to get lost, you will know that we are meeting at the Kaiaua greasy shop and if worst comes to worst, go there and you will be ok.

Those keen, it will be weather permitting which at this stage is looking pretty good :)

Well I was keen, then luckily remembered I have a wedding on. Will have to make it to the next one.
Can just imagine the newly wed's looks on explaining how I went off riding and forgot about the wedding. Lucky indeed or unlucky.

it looks like i might be able to make this one... hangover and party success will be the only things that might keep me away.

Fear my two cilinders of steel!

Also the reason for the late start. If you're still feeling bad by 11 than you would still be way over the limit :)

No worries Leong, maybe next time.

Hey, not wishing to cause any offence here but what's blue, covered in crumbs and lies in the gutter?

Hell, happen yesterday?
What a bummer. :( Broken shoulder blades take a while to come right too.
Heal fast mate and hope to see you out there again soonish.

Only good thing is it sounds like the bike aint too bad but at least it wasn't even worse for you, though a blade is bad enough.

Thanks Beyond for organising a great ride. Got to see a few new roads, and the garden bar makes for a good alternative to fish and chips!

Zapf, I'd seen your name on the list so was wondering if you'd decided to ride elsewhere? We took a rather southerly route to Kaiaua (via Tahuna) so its not surprising we didn't see you in the end. Good to see in the other thread that you made it to Bluff, I have a similar photo too!

Was a bit tough keeping the head up but hey I could have been lying on the couch crook, or out riding crook, either way hooking up with you guys and riding was the better option. :scooter:

Interesting, hadnt seen a GSX1400 in action before and I was really impressed. A mate of mine is looking at crusers at the moment and will buy next week. I suggested that as a comparison that he should at least hop on the GSX and go from there...you know I think he may just get one :Punk:

Thanks again for the ride and looking forward to the next one

Yep, the 14's are a darn good all rounder. Great for long distance, nice in the twisties and excellent two up as well.

Right now they have the summerfest special which is $3,000 worth of goodies tossed in for free!!!! Nice half size fairing with headlight and screen unit (very tidy), belly pan and four into one Yoshimura.

AND... where else can you get a big bore bike for $10.00 a CC??

Yep thats the deal he is going for, sounds good, his first pref is for the M109 which is a bit steeper but still has the goodies thrown in, not sure exactly what they are offering for the M109.

I am kindof hoping he goes for the GSX because most of our mates do the same sorts of roads as we did on Saturday, I think the M109 would be a handful in parts and the GSX offers more options. Will tag along with him next Saturday and follow him on a few test rides. Either way I am stoked for him, another good dude back on 2 wheels :Punk:

The M109 is a good bike for sure but if he is into back road scratching (sounds like it if you lot already are) then the M109 is a bit limiting with ground clearanmce. They handle well consiodering there bulk but the pegs touch down fairly early. Other than that, I like the 240 rear :)
