Kickaha & Divvo at the Minefield

It all started with getting out of bed at 3.30 am on the Friday and getting ready for Divvo to pick me up in the mighty intercooled, slash cut equipped Transit for the trip north, up to Picton and a smooth sailing across to Welly for a stop off at his sisters place where I spent a couple of hours pissing myself laughing at him getting the snot beaten out of him by a three year old Kid

Up to Sanson and book in at the Motel and have a laugh at the phone call from the Goober/Pig travelling circus who managed to time there ferry crossing to hit peak hour home time traffic out of Welly and taking 1 ½ hours to travel 10km

Saturday morning and we head off to the track, Goober/Pig are nowhere in sight so we set our gear up in there tent, pull the fairing off and give it check over and wander off to talk shit:yes:

Riders briefing and we’re asked for a separate Sidecar rider’s rep, as Goober isn’t in the building we volunteer his services and much to his disgust when he turns up he learns he cant get pissed until ½ an hour after the meeting ends :apint:

Q1
I’ve only done about 5 laps in total on a outfit here and I remember it as a fairly easy track just a bit bumpy, I find I’m not tucking in enough on the straights and the wind is trying to pull me off the back, the outfits a bit twitchy and we pull the body off when we get back in so Divvo can change the castor

Burt/Ernie have fried a clutch and have the engine out, Pete/Rat are still trying to get the 1000cc outfit to run correctly

Q2
We’re going faster and it’s feeling better but after 4 laps we come in and Divvo gives me a few instructions as he wants me moving over for the rights later than I am and getting more weight on the rear, we head out and do a few more laps and on our last do a 1.19.094 which puts us on row 2 in 4th spot:niceone:

Divvo give me a bit more feedback in the pits about straddling the chair in rights like I’m trying to hump it doggy style:buggerd: and that I need to eat more pies, Des is welding a broken bit on his outfit and doing his best to set it on fire which luckily he notices it in time

Saturday Race 1
The organisers had the grid 4 across each row but we have it changed to 3-2-3-2

Off the line and we hold 4th into turn one with the Lawrence brothers all over the back of us and we’re right behind the #NZ2 out of Stu/Darren, we laps later and it hasn’t changed and then the Lawrence’s come past at the hairpin, we nail them down into Higgins and they come back under brakes and we go back past down the straight, Stu/Darren are slowly getting away while we’re tripping over each other but once the Lawrence’s make the pass into turn1 they start to pull away through the infield and pull a big enough gap that we cant get them down into Higgins, by lap 7 we’re both getting tired but we have a big enough gap on Daggs/Grubb that our position is pretty safe, last lap we have a “moment” onto the front straight and get a bit loose but come home in 5th

New Track Record (1:14.449) for Sidecars by Stephen Bron/ Dion Weedon.

We fit a new rear tyre and check over the outfit and then bugger off for the night

Sidecarbob (the top bloke that he is) does brekky for me the next day and Divvo does something nasty with Pigs Easter eggs which involve his scrotum and replacing them in the packet and gives Goobers hat the same treatment, which leads me to the “tip of the day” Do not under any circumstance accept food from Divvo which doesn’t come out of a sealed packet

Sunday Race 2

Our start isn’t quite as good but we’re on the back of the front bunch into the hairpin, the party pills outfit snots me in the back and crushes me into the chair guard:angry2: when they go in a bit hot, Goobers laughing in his helmet as he thinks he’s picking up another spot but Divvo corrects the slide, gasses it up and we go,thanks for fucking coming Goober:finger: , the next few laps we’re hard out in a four way battle, coming out of the hairpin we give Darren/Stu a nudge and outdrag them down the straight, we swap places the next few laps with them, Scrivy/Sidecarbob and the Lawrence brothers, we’re three wide down into Higgins and have passed Stu/Darren and Scrivy/Sidecarbob and I thought we were going in hard, but under brakes but Stu/Darren go past on the outside and Scrivy/Sidecarbob go past on the inside and take Stu/Darren at the same time, we’re getting a bit puffed at working so hard so I’m not to surprised when Daggs/Grub make it past and we swap place a couple of laps and then Pete/Rat get past into turn one and are smoking it up on the exit, we go after them and then into the last turn Rat has his hand up as they coast to a halt with a cooked motor and we go across the line in 6th

My ribs got a hammering at Ruapuna and it feels like I’ve cracked a couple again after being hit by the other outfit:doctor:

Sunday Race 3

I’m in a bit of pain as we go out and on the grid I tell Divvo I’ll be moving early or I won’t make it, we hit turn 1 in third but as we’re a turning in Steve/Dion slide up the inside and take a spot off us, we swap spots with the Lawrence brothers for the next couple of laps until they get the better of us and then Daggs/Grub go past us into splash, we’re slightly off the pace in this one and by the time we have two laps to go I’m in serious pain and struggling to move and are bloody glad to see the white flag as we get another 6th place finish

Although I feel I could improve in a couple of areas (race fitness being one)I’m not to unhappy with the results and the way the weekeend went it was still nice to get back home to the ever patient Joni, roll on Puke (the fucking shithole) in a couple of weeks:sick:
