Hey guys,
I have Pirelli Sport Demons on my ZXR 250 now and they are good tyres overall. I've got decent mileage out of them with my riding. (commuting/weekend rides).
Just looking at getting something better though as I am not too happy with them around the twisties, they slide off a little bit and I am not too confident to push myself as I can feel the drift/traction around corners.
So I was looking at either GPR 100 or BT 090 as they don't have GPR 70's now but talked to a few bike shops and they said don't get the new GPR A10's if you're commuting and going on weekend blasts mainly. They are race tyres and you'd be lucky if you get 4000 to 5000 k's out of it or go through the middle fast.
Which one shall I get and why? (BT 090 or GPR 100) I've used GPR 80's before and loved them but I have never used BT's before. Thanks heaps :)

I used to get 4000-5000k out of each rear GPR 70 I put on if that helps. There's no better tyre for small bikes if your main priority is grip, but it sounds like that's not your main priority

i'll be keeping an eye on this thread too as i'm gonna need a new rear soon. I've been on Bridgestone BT45's since I bought my bike and have been relatively impressed with their grip. Only problem is i've had nothing to compare them to yet.
I'll be looking at the BT 090's or GPR's when the time comes, especially as i've decided to walk to work now and save the bike for the weekend/track days.
Any other recommendations from people, are GPR 70/80's still available?

GPR-80s aren't as focussed as the GPR-70 was. The GPR-70 has been superceded with the GPR-a10

Cool. Might do some research to check on availability/prices.

Yes that sounds right but apparently the new A10's are softer compound than GPR 70's were and mainly for racing, if you commute on them you would chew the middle up and hard pushed for 4000-5000 k's on them mate. APPARENTLY. So given my circumstances A10 would not be logical but yes they are the stickiest tyres around so I would be settling for second best I guess either GPR 100 or BT 090 is the question. But some say BT 090 are the same as GPR 70 or GPR A10 anyone know much about these tyres?

What are you comparing the Sport Demons to when it comes to stickyness? If you think Sport Demons are the bizzo you don't know your tyres too well.

The BT090's are a race tyre too, so i wouldnt expect too many K's out of them either.
Depends what you want out of a tyre...
Grip or long lasting?
BT090's for Grip
Gpr100's for long lasting.
Id personally go for the 090's.
Saying that, you cant go wrong with a Pirelli Sport Demons. Ive got a few guys racing on them, and they are fine!
So im not sure why your sliding around on yours......?

Yeah good point Sparky Bills, well I know a few other guys who are happy with the Sport Demons but I for some reason aren't a big fan of them, just comparing when I had the GPR 80's on and with the Sport Demons I think there's a vast difference, don't know why maybe because I have the wrong profile tyres on instead of 140/60 I have 140/70 but I know the difference isn't too great.
Again I don't really know why though, could be my riding but I definitely prefer the Dunlop's, find them stickier. As for what I want in tyres like I explained before I can't go GPR A10, as I won't get too many k's out of it. I am leaning more towards the GPR 100's. But has anyone here used GPR 100 and BT 090 to tell me which one is sticker and how many k's to expect.
Say if the BT 090 are way stickier than the GPR 100 and if I get 5000 to 6000 k's out of it and I would get, say 6000 to 7000 k's out of the GPR 100 then I would definitely go BT 090's.
I know riding style makes a difference but again I ride like a nana anywayz :ride: I commute few times a week try and get out in the weekends and do a few track days a year. So yeah which one really?

Its a hard choice really.
I know the 090's are great on the 400 F3 bikes, but i havnt heard from anyone regarding how the handle normal road riding.
On a 250, i would think they'd be ok.
Cant say how many K's you'd get though.
Good luck.

easy answer
you want to improve your riding right?
then get the gpr A10s
then you know you have the BEST tyres on your bike.
isnt it all about the psycological edge?
like your tyres probably aren't slipping in the corners its just a case of head fuck
so if you know you have the best tyres possible on your bike you will have the confidence and trust to push your bike and yourself a lil bit harder, therefore becoming a better rider.
is it worth the extra cost of those tyres to improve your riding cos imho a lot of riding stuff (like a lot in life) is in your head.

What's the tread like on BT090's? When I went shopping for tyres I had a choice b/n GPR100 or GPR70. The GPR70 tread worried the shit out of me and wasn't a tyre I would want in heavy wet weather. But then I ride like a nana and commute mostly. I went the GPR100 and so far no complaints.

um... ive got bt092's on my zxr250 and last night i scraped the toe for the first time and had no wandering at all?????
i think the only issue i've had is the back drifting on hard throttle coming out of a corner.. i say drifting but i mean more of a er.... squiggle?
but im a newb still so i dont really know..... hehe

Hey sparky,
do you guys stock 090's out there and what sort of price would I be looking at?
Will be needing some new rubber soon and have made the decision my bike is a weekend toy only now. 110/70 17 F and 150/60 17 R

I had some GPR100's on my CBR400, I used it to commute on and I did a coro ride on them and they were plenty sticky for the 400, then did a wet ride and they still had plenty of feel and grip apart wheelspinning under acceleration over some fresh asphalt.

You will get good life out of BT-090's. I can't remember exactly what I got of of a rear on my RVF, but I think it was maybe 9000km..? The front is still fine after that many kms and will last quite a bit more. If I'd kept it pumped up better, it would have lasted longer.
The tread groves don't go to the edge on the 090's, but you won't be leaning over that far in the wet anyway. Still;the tyre has great grip in the wet.
I can't speak for the Dunlop job, but I can say the 090 is a very good tyre and you won't be disappointed.
I'm not a Bridgestone fan, the BT-014s on my GSXR were shit, but the little 090 is a good tyre.

:gob: 9000 km's are you sure ?? Are you sure it was BT 090's can't be mate double check seriously! My Sport Demons only lasted about 8000 odd k's and those tyres are really hard compared to GPR 100's and BT 090's.
So after a little bit of running around, ringing and researching and seeing the tyres I think the BT 090's would be slightly stickier and softer than the GPR 100's and a bit dearer too.
So I've settled with GPR 100. Scrubbed it in and went to Taupo tracks yesterday and trust me, no doubt that that's MORE THAN ENOUGH grip you need on those bikes in RAIN and SHINE because it was raining half day yesterday and then the second half in Taupo was hot as.
Nice and sticky no traction or jerky movements when coming out of corners and they feel really nice and shred ok too. I guess any stickier would shred really fast.

gpr100's sound like me then too, couldn't find a price for 090's anywhere and the gpr's were cheaper than i was expecting. plus it sounds like they'll last a bit longer

I got the bike with 12,000km, did about 9000 on a Bridgestone Cyrox (URGH!!) rear. Replaced all the tyres with BT-090's. Now the odo says nearly 29,000 or so, and it has a brand new (As in in from the shop to my house, not ridden since) rear.
Your tyres will wear out faster if your suspension is shagged, you don't pump up the tyres, the way you ride, what roads you ride on, any probably a dozen other things.

Since this thread is talking about GPR a10's and GPR 100's, I think I'll jump in...
Got a old GPR 70 on the front of my FZR and it is rooted... the rear GPR 70 died a couple months ago, and I replaced it with a cheap fix Shinko 006...
I'm done with the whole go-fast race thing, and am now gonna concentrate on doing stunts... got a 54-tooth sprocket going on my bike on Monday, and am wondering if I should go with the GPR100's front and rear, GPR a10's front and rear (rear will get eaten quickly due to wheelies), or a GPR a10 front and GPR100 rear?
Pretty difficult with tire choices due to weird tire sizing, front's ok being 110/70-17, but rear is 140/60-18 (have been running a 150/60-18, but I feel the tire doesn't sit how it should being slightly oversized on the rear)...
Any tips people?

Yes, ring Chris Mitchell of Chris Mitchell Motorcycles in Taupo.
He is always friendly and full of advice from being an ex tyre tester.
Give him a bell on 07 377 2555.
You may have seen him at the motoTT track days, passing you around the outside without his knee down, he knows his tyres.
