Nope. Correct spelling is "eh". Aye is a word and it means yes. To those of us with a correct spelling and grammar disorder, "aye", looks far more cognitively disjunctive than "eh" does to you.

All MetallicA albums are great, each one of their albums have some defining tracks on them and are generally very good. It's very easy to be 'hardcore' and say their last good album was Master Of Puppets or Metallica (The Back Album as it is known) but you really have to pull yer head out of your arse and look around at all the other musical greats, they all grow and try new things as well as mature in their tastes.
Strange how a lot of people dis them all the time, for what reason? Being successful? Creating an album they don't like? Making a DVD which showcases them as real people?
Metallica have done something that most other bands or people would ever do and that is opern themselves up, so that their fans can see who they really are, they've done this kind of stuff since Metallica (1992) when they had a camera crew following them around during the making of that album, it opened them up as real people.
So please don't slag them off, admire them for having courage to show themselves as they are and for standing up for what they believe.

MetallicA fucking steals money from artists baby!!! Yeah!!!!
I slag them off because of their hardcore support for record labels who created an industry that means a CD costs $25-$35 to buy, despite each CD only costing US50c to make each, including performance fees, legal fees, artwork, artist payment, publishing fees, and worldwide distribution.
Their inability to understand that the world has changed and that a new distribution and payment model needs to be hammered out means that record companies are dying rapidly and trying to drag everyone around them down too.
My head is well out of my arse. I have every Metallica album. I bought them all, listen to them frequently and STILL prefer MoP to anything else they've ever done. I bought my first Metallica albums in '85.
I'm entitled to my opinion, as you are to yours, but I'm not going to be rude about your opinion.

1. Destroying all their credibility with the Some Kind of Monster DVD. Seriously!
2. Almost successfully alienating their entire fanbase over the Napster fiasco.

I doubt their credibility has been destroyed, in fact they seem to be more popular now than ever, they are going to tour Europe in the summer, as soon as the tickets went on sale most venues sold out in under 1 and half hours.
Napster was just a financial threat to them, if someone was depositing your paycheck every month (regardless of how much you made) and was taking a few dollars off for themselves wouldn't you get pissed off too? Honestly?

As a matter of fact it didn't, Load still sold very well and their tours after both Load and Reload continued to sell out every performance, so no their popularity didn't sink. As far as being on iTunes is concerned, most artists are on iTunes these days, it makes pretty good business sense to do so....don't you think?

Doesn't alter the fact that up to MoP they were cutting edge, and since they've been just another big stadium rock act, I'll give them their due marketing-wise they know what that big black T-shirt fanbase wants and they give it to them. Metallica are metal's Rolling Stones.

Metallica lost a huge amount of credibility with most working Musicians trying to publish original music. The only way to make money as an artist or band contracturally bound to a label, is to establish a substantial back catalogue. Bands just starting out who sign to major labels are in debt to that label until their catalogue gets them into a profit situation, provided they maintain control of the publishing rights of their music and lyrics.
Metallica the business entity (mostly Lars Ulrich) are very canny and have done all the things necessary to become a profitable business in their own right.
Napster, despite supposedly being free, was generating huge interest in lots of independent acts and making them money. Metallica refused to help the very people they themselves had been 20 years earlier, by helping to establish a new paradigm that allowed artists to market product directly to listeners, reducing costs and debts my many thousands of dollars per song released.
File sharing does not take money away from artists. It takes it away from middle men mostly, i.e the Record Companies, and possibly some of the bigger acts who are profitable due to publishing income. Most of the bigger acts have long since ceased to rely on their back catalogue for income, they make most of their money from business investments.

I've got all their albums some I listen to more than others. Some I only listen to a few songs I like and some I listen to only when in a particular mood. It's music and I like it. That's all I care about.

Exactly. The Rolling Stones were great, but they last released some decent music about the time The Beatles split up.
Just because a band has the 'courage' to show me a DVD of them arguing and sulking, doesn't actually mean I'll go: 'hey! how courageous! I didn't like their last album, but now suddenly I find mysef re-evaluating it, because they're, y'know, f'real.'

1) 'Puppets' and 'Justice' were big. The band would have had enough to live comfortably on for the rest of their naturals anyway.
2) If the primary purpose of you doing something becomes 'to make money', you might as well go and work as a stockbroker. By all means make money from what you love doing - make enough to fill your swimming pools full of champagne, vintage rollers and women of loose reputation if that makes you happy - but, especially with music, you should be doing it first and foremost because you love it. If that isn't the number one reason for you doing it, it won't be any good. It might be competent, but it won't have come from your soul.

sorry dude, I don't agree with that, startup bands have something that bands 20 years ago could only even dream of.......the internet. It is THE best marketing tool for any startup band, regardless of P2P file sharing programs, as I remember it Napster let you search for bands and albums and so forth, but I don't reckon it introduced that many new bands. Websites like the old mp3.com did that and to a certain degree websites like purevolume.com are continuing to do that.

Napster created the Internet Music distribution Paradigm. It took Napster to make people understand that the Internet could be used for something other than porn.
I've used the Internet for my music business since the mid-90s. I've sequenced drum and percussion parts for people all over the world and created music edits and sold and distributed them via the Internet for Bobybuilding, Aerobics, synchronised swimming, and circuses.
As far as Napster not introducing new bands? You are utterly wrong. I bought about 4 times the music I do now when Napster was around and I have a huge chunk of friends who say the same thing. Most P2P apps these days are clunky and adware ridden in comparison. Download a track, like it? Go buy the album
I've tried to use the Internet for marketing a couple of bands prior to Napster - about 300 hits in 2 years. One band successfully post Napster. We did all our marketing for local gigs in Wellington via the Internet. Had gigs every week and had thousands of website hits, mostly National too, simply by posting up half a dozen demos, pics of the band in action, and pocket bios. If anyone asks me what to do now in terms of raising profile I tell them to set up a MySpace site for their band. It's free after all.
As far as the other artists? Metallica took the lead, in particular Lars. He made a huge dick of himself many times. You have to remember that at the time Napster broke, the only way into the profitable part of the Industry was via major labels , who were at that stage combining into the 2 mega-labels we see today. Those mega labels have done nothing for music at all, while more and more bands launch themselves via the Internet and a growing swag of Indy labels. The mega-labels gave us Pop Idol. Tough luck if they do fail and take hypocrites like Metallica with them
Now that Napster's gone, CD sales are dropping like a stone. Thanks to CD burners and P2P apps, people under 40 don't by CDs anymore. The artists you mentioned? All rooted, none have made anything of note or have simply vanished. Metallica almost carked it, but only held on thanks to a hardcore fan base built over decades and a belated return to their roots.
The labels and bands like Metallica need to stop focusing on hard copy and come up with a pay per download model that acknowledges how much cheaper that distribution model is instead of expecting people to pay the same price per song as they would if they bought a CD.

Yes, Lars is a dick, always has been, but he is only protecting what he had worked so hard to create, try and put yourself in his shoes. MetallicA aren't hypocrites, in many interviews they have often expressed a wish to distribute their musiceasily and legally through the web, but can you think of a simple and easy way to do that with all of the legal shit involved and purchasing across currencies etc etc, bit of a fucking nightmare hey? Creed was never really alive. They only put out albums because it was in thier contract with the label company to make X number of albums in x number of years. Only Scott Stapp took it seriously wich is why he's on his own now.

I enjoyed all the albums up to Metallica Metallica, which I didn't think was quite as good as previous ones.
Cliff Burton was a legend bass guitarist, but I still love Justice for All - Frayed Ends of Sanity was an awesome song, as is Blackened.
Same for me, though I still have all the Metallica albums, apart from St Waste of Fscking Time. No thanks. I still listen to the older stuff from time to time, along with Garage Inc which isn't half bad, I used to be way into Metallica when I was 16/17 too. Now 24 and think it's alright, but have other bands I prefer now.

Add me to that list thanx Slayer.
Oh, and some Slayer stuff to go along with it would bring back old times. Don't know what happened to all my Slayer files but it'd be good to listen to them again. :Punk:

Showing my age but all my Metallica is on cassette :dodge:

Coincidentally I've just been listening to Metallica, courtesy of Jim2's recommended link to www.last.fm
I started off by listening to Steve Vai and ended up about 45 minutes later listening to Metallica -- and a lot of interesting stuff in between.

Popular in this household too. Eldest has it up loud all the time and its grown on me.
Oh year, Eh, Aye or whatever. I prefer to concentrate on the big picture before dotting my Ayes and Tees.
