Does anyone understand amazon.com's shipping costs? I am having trouble!
On the US site, the international shipping rates quoted on their website are:
Per shipment US$6.99
Per item US$4.99
But when I started to place an order I find they actually want to charge US$11.98 shipping.
So I went to the Canadian website and their shipping charges quoted are:
Per shipment C$10.99
Per item C$6.99
But they actually wanted to charge me C$17.98.
I'd like to email them to clarify but I can't find any contact details anywhere on their website...can anyone help?

There's no mention of insurance in the shipping rates section of help, and in the shopping card it just quoted "shipping & handling $xxx"
I'm probably being totally thick but I just don't get it...

You are not the only one ..I bought a graphix kit for the bike from the us ...50 bucks purchase ... wieghs 1.3 kg Stickers ..a graphics kit ,,the cardbord wrapping wieghed more than the goods ...
45 dollars postage
One thinks one its making profit on the postage and not the product
Having said that , have bought from Amazon many times ,,and Just double the price ,,seems to work ...

can you find whatever it was you wanted on amazon.co.uk and get it from there?
I've had better (i.e. less expensive) experiences getting stuff posted to me from the UK than from the US. UK postage seems to handle getting stuff to NZ without charging you double the cost of the thing you were buying.
US postage appears to be geared to sending things *inside* the states, and gets very expensive very quickly if you happen to be somewhere outside US-world.
Yes the thing probably costs slightly more upfront cos of the GBP / USD to NZ$ exchange rates, but the lower postage on stuff I've ordered (CDs & books mostly, dunno about bigger things and obviously YMMV) has made up for it.
