I've got a fzx250 watercooled inline 4. i've never seen the fan going!
I just went fangin round raumait south (hi Paul) redlining in every gear (on the highway) and in every gear up to 50ks...1st! :bleh: and my fan wasnt running at anytime when i got off to have a squizz. pulled a wheelie, stopped...no fan still.
never had the temp light on but there is a fair bit of heat radiating off the alternator cover etc. (yes, i know thats not water cooled :D)
this happen to anyone elses Zeal???
cheers

How long have you had the bike? I know on my old bike the only time I ever got the fan to go was in the middle of summer and I'd been idling traffic for a while. Then it would turn on for periods of maybe 30 secs. Never had it going when I was thrashing it.

What was your temp gauge saying. It only turns on when it gets really really hot (didn't on the zxr anyway)

Try doing all that and then sitting on the side of the road for 5 mins - I g'tee the fan will come on.
The fan sucks air through the system - when you are riding the bike - air pressure does this for you - hence no need for the fan to work.

R6 comes on at about 100c, when I fitted my repaired radiator, I took it for a hard ride to test it, normally op temp is about 72-76 c, then stopped turned bike off and key back on let temp raise to 100c fan came on.Fans don't normally come on on hard ride, more likely if your stuck in Ak traffic jam(that is unless you lane split !) Have you checked to see if power is going to the fan unit ?

Thanks for all those thoughts... pulled up and idled in the driveway when i got home...no fan going.
had the bike 3 months and is a daily rider. i give it heaps on weekends too:D
has no temp gauge.
tacho is a bit slow to react as well :msn-wink:
might have to check the power-to-the-fan situation tomorrow b4 i go hard over paekak hill!
turned key off and let it "heat soak", key on-no fan
if anyone knows where i could get a cheap tacho, that'd be handy too... bike redlines at 14500 and mine gets to that after I've changed gear
also after a lefta side switch bank...bloody aussie import has no headlight off switch

The gixxer fan comes on at 108 deg.
Unplug the fan and put a twelve volt ( if a twelve volt system ) current in to the leads that go to the fan. It should start. Finger away of course. That will tell you if the fan motor is ok but will not tell you if the sender is ok. If the fan runs cover the radiator and go for a short normal ride down the road and then let it sit idling for a few minutes. Should come on but the weather is cool it just might not.
Fanging it in this weather will not over heat it as the air is passing through the radiator and if it over heats now you are in trouble in the summer.
