Young fulla wanting to get into racing...

Met a young fulla a while back - no dosh, mad keen on track racing... whats to get involved.

Anyone able to let me know what first steps to take? Bucket racing? Get involved with a team in a support capacity... other?

Pointers and tips appreciated

bucket racing is the easiest way to start i guess, then a round or two in clubmans to get used to a bigger bike later on. I too would suggest being a pit bitch or even a race marshall if you get the chance as you will learn a lot about what goes on and what needs to happen in order for there to be a race at all.

VMCC sponsors a couple of young uns each winter series. we provide bike and free entry. all they need to do is turn up at manfeild/taupo. We can help with gear etc.

As long as they know how to ride a bike ......

Great ideas Yep If he can apply for the Vic Club one you cant get any better than a free season if you get selected


If not yeah get him along at racing give outa hand someone maybe let him have a go on a bucket and coach him around really helped when I started with guys at buckets just giving lots of advice

If he can get him onto Kiwibiker as well that way he can keep in contact with everyone and maybe people on here can give him a hand

An RG or KR 150 can be had for under $2000, and punted around the track in Streetstock. This is a semi-cheap way for him to decide wether or not he enjoys racing and may be prepared to throw more money at it.

First get some money, second go racing in any class that you can afford. You could be on a bucket for $500 plus about $500 for gear then allow $100 each time you race it.

If you arent too image concious you could race in pre82 on an old GSX400 twin (dont expect to win) or some other ancient Gem for well under a grand.

Do you want to race and have a good time or do you need to win, this will influence how much money you need. Racing is like the arms race, no matter what class, sombody is always working on the next racer of mass destruction (RMD) , and some people have very deep pockets.

Hey, My opinion is that you should enter the vic club series, they are supplying young riders that have had little or no experence, they will supply bike and far as i no, maybe gear.
