View Full Version : Goodbye Welly, hello Chch

1st March 2007, 08:01
Due to family reasons and such I'm leaving Wellington and headed back to the south island.

I'm going to miss the Welly crew and TCWNR and all the other rides I go on with you guys. I learnt to ride with alot of you and I learned so much from all of you.

So I'm hopefully doing the Manfield trackday on Sunday and I'll probably come along to the next couple of TCWNR's. I'm off to Palmy to pick up my 6R on the weekend of the hillclimb, then I'm off to Christchurch on the 21st March. I'm hoping to squeeze a ride in there so I can go for one with you lot on my new bike.

To those I don't see before I go: Thanks and see you later. I'll be back up here for roadtrips and stuff.

I'm looking forward to meeting the Christchurch crew

Not sure if we have met but I've been on a couple of TCWNR's and to some of the Welly lunches. (I've got a dreadful memory for names - ask Mrs Kendog). Good luck with the move and I'm sure the ChCh lot will welcome you.

God luck with the move - if you miss us all too much, you always know there's heaps of places to crash when you visit ('crash' is probably a bad word, but you know what I mean! LOL) :D

I reckon in the long run you will see how great this opportunity is... yes I know change is difficult, but...

You wont regret it. Chch is great... and you have access to some great roads and destinations that are just around the corner

Good luck with your move.

I'd live in Christchurch any day over Wellington, that is if I could find it.

Funny, I was in a presentation with some people from Wellington and we were comparing the WLG and AUCK markets. I was discussing our experiences in Wellington then said, "... while up here in New Zealand". Oops.

Road from Dunedin thru to Alex via Roxborough (sp) along Clutha...mmm Lindis Pass mmm Milford Sound mmm Lewis Pass mmm West Coast mmm Haast Pass mmm McKenzie Country mmm

We don't let just anyone in you know. There's the obligatory shout at Speights Ale House, the hoon around Ruapuna, Dangerous likes to wheelie every new bike that comes along...Its quite an initiation you've go to go through.

Are you up for it?

1st March 2007, 18:00
Yeah lucky you. I enjoyed every minute of the 5 years I lived in Christchurch and as they've said in threads above the roads are awesome. Besides the Peninsula even heading out West is great once you've got past Springfield on the Arthurs pass Road or North/West once you're on the Lewis Pass Road or in the Hundalees on your way to Picton. On the 6R those roads will be magic to you. As for South that's the boring bit on those damn straight roads so always go on one of the other roads..

Not everyone... (dumb question: which weekend is it?!)

I'll come up to Palmy with you when you pick up the new bike, if you want some company.

I feel a kind of comradeship with you since we both started riding about the same time, and both on FXRs, and often on the same rides. (Sadly you can now ride circles around me, but anyway...) I'll miss seeing you around. If we get to do a ride together with you on the 6R, I'll buy you a feed. Good luck with your move.

I'm riding the FXR up there and leaving it with it's new owner and bringing the 6R back. I wouldn't mind some company if people are keen. We could take a slightly more interesting route back rather than just SH1

Best of luck with your future endeavours.

It's been great having your company on so many of the wednesday night rides.

I've only ever known you as a sensible and safe rider. Definately a good gain for the Christchurch biker community. Not too many young blokes out there that don't take unneccesary risks. Ride safe amongst all those boy racers down there and don't forget to pack a Hurricanes jersey before you leave.

Hey Tristan I was just wondering how we were all going to get on once you got your new zx 6r, It's had enough getting away from you on the 150, but if your moving south, problem solved. Should be able to catch up on TCWNR next week, and I think it's the last one before daylight saving ends. If not then all the best for your trip south.

I think you're confusing cultured intelligence with try hard academics. Nice wee village though. If it weren't for the politicians, you'd be a ferry terminal with a cafe. Oh that's right, you are.

Well we rode up to Palmy today, (after Pheonix finally turned up... ) and did the swap. Took a bit to get the new Kwaka going, dont think it liked be stored in that shed. Had a nice lunch in town, and then when rode over the Piahiatua Track and into the wet and windy 'Rapa. It dried out for a bit between Masterton and Featherston but the trip over the 'Takas was fairly interesting...shame it wasnt nice for the new bike eh Tris?

Well we finally made it, Phoenix, me, cat and bandit! But boy does the bandit need to go in for a serivce. After nearly missing the boat on wed cos the bandit wouldnt start (BIG shout out to the guys at Boyles for coming and picking her up and getting it started) we got to blenheim only to discover I had to switch to reserve after 130Km of travel! Before the carbs we done it was around 160 (Which is still not good), so not very impressed. Plus there is black smoke, backfires and lack of idle, so going to try and get it booked in somewhere 2morrow.
We had 1 other bike related incident in out travels, but will let Phoenix elaborate on that.....(but the ZX6R is fine)

Several friends have had bad experiences with the mechanics there and will not go back. I'd always recommend Duane Brown at Duanes Bikes and Skis on Waterloo Rd. He is the best and once you've been there once you won't want to go elsewhere.

Unfortunatly wasp it may ahve been something we did cos when Boyles picked it up the other day they noted that when they got it going it was only firing on 1 cylinder, and the slowly the others started. Oh well, shit happend so we just gotta try and get it sorted:yes:

Welcome to ChCh guys. When you feel like meeting the local nutters shout out you want to go for a ride / drinks sometime.
Hope you're settling in fine. Good luck with getting the bandit sorted. Was it a recent import? Bad fuel can upset them a bit. R1 Madness @ Just motorcycles - Bowhill rd has had a bit to do with them & Duane bikes is another good place to go.
