This will be far too subtle for the vigilante crowd, and those that have no objection to road blocks and random breath tests without cause, but I'll try anyway.

That is a completely unacceptable recommendation. It will be used as a tool to remove dissenting cops, cops who give a damn about doing their job, from a Police force that some of us suspect is becoming an actively politicised arm of Government, instead of neutral public servants.
If a cop is suspected of a crime, he/she should be suspended from duty pending an investigation. On full pay.
They should only lose their job IF they are convicted. Not guilty should result in reinstatement and nothing recorded on their service history.

I totally agree Jim,now I ask the question, why if this gets in would anybody
want to be a Policemen
The Scum, they have to deal with everyday, will & do have more rights than a Policeman, just point the finger & they are gone from the job, thats wrong, what ever happened to inocent untill proven guilty

the government has too much power - someone needs to burn that puppy to the ground. Its only cos of them that bs court cases ever happen.

Agreed. But perhaps in the case of cops where a higher standard of behaviour should be required then the standard should be balance of probability rather than beyond reasonable doubt?

Agreed
If proven guilty, OK, the boot.
To propose dismissing someone who is only accused, smacks of something dirty in the state of Plod.
They been getting their advice from Dubya & Blair????

Hm. Could this logic be extended to politicians?

Stupid idea, remove anyone from their employment without proof and see what kind of lawsuit you end up with.
Cops are people too, despite what some may say, and deserve to be protected by the law just as you or I do.
If convicted, then by all means throw the book at them, but it is silly to suggest anything like this.

That could be so badly abused it's not funny.
People are meant to be innocent until someone proves they're guilty.

The thing about this story that made me choke on my wheaties was the accompanying poll that showed about half of the respondents agreeing with the proposition.
Hopefully commonsense and employment law will cut this nonsense off at the pass. If the Police win this one, then by extension all employers should have the right to sack workers who are suspected of committing a crime.
So much for the enlightened society.
And if the problem is Clint Rickard, just write him out a very big cheque. Don't write bad law.

It seems to be another stupid PC reaction to a non problem.
As everyone has stated if a policeman/woman or anyone else is found guilty that's fine - sack them.
But really this is just a nonsense. The current law is quite capable of dealing with this situation so what's the necessity for any sort of change. Surely not just a bit of political grandstanding.
