Just wondering if any of you out there have wrecked test bikes they have been taking for a ride from a dealers. I say this because this morning I was testing a GSX 250 with only 1298km on the clock and its started making funny noises and then had a go at grinding to a halt. SO I stopped the bike and had a look at it , and lo and behold, I see oil sprayed all over the front fairing and a conrod peeking out from the hole in the side of the head !!

What did they say when you turned up with a busted bike?

No, I had just turned a corner and was clicking through the gears when it got a nasty on me. Dont think I even went near the redline- it hadnt even really warmed up yet.

Luckily Phil (Turnbull) was more worried that I'd gone down the road than about the bike. Apparently a knocking sound had been heard from it before, so maybe I was just the lucky guy on it when it decided to let go. I wasnt half sweating when I walked up to tell him though !! :sweatdrop

Wow! lucky bugger - I've been trying for years and never managed to blow a motor like that, mine or otherwise.

I had a Z650 years ago, admittedly it was a bit rough.Had it at 115(m.p.h.)on the speedo but back then believed what I read in the bike press so changed down, nose on the clocks,to get the extra 10 m.p.h. the mag testers said was there.Dont know what speed it got to because I was more concerned about the suddn loss of speed and the sickening crunching noise.Turned out a valve had let got and taken out one cylinder completely along with the head and just about everything else, way beyond repair.I paid £600 for it one week, got £50 from a breaker 7 days later.
