View Full Version : GSXR600K4 Steering Shakes

I am having an unusual problem on my gsxr, and I think it is related to some issues I was having pre-christmas.
Before christmas, I was ahving a slight 'pulsing' through my brakes, but no tthe same as bent rotors.
This last week, I have noticed that at speeds above about 80kph, my bars vibrate/shake quite a bit.
Now, I know that this bike has never been dropped at all, so I am guessing it must come down to suspension set up or wheel balancing. Could anyone enlighten me on a few things to check because I am really stumped.

I have been meaning to get the bike down to Shaun in New Plymouth, but I have so far been too committed with work to get there, and as such, I guess I gotta suss it myself.

try the simple stuff dude.
check tyre pressures. Get the wheel balanced -make sure the disks are floating check the suspension is set up evenly make sure the brakes arent partially seized.

As above check balance of wheel plus tyre hasn't delaminated etc & run out of the disc's on the bike / headset bearings set to correct torque , Don't waste ya money coming all the way here to play with your suspenion plenty of people more than capable up there .

yup frosty and sensei said most things to check

i would look to see at least that suspension on both sides is same, and brakes/discs are fine

couple of settings pulled from sportsbike.com

GSX-R600 ('04) 6/04 4 lines showing .75 turn out 1.75 turns out 9mm thread showing 1.25 turns out 1.5 turns out
note: set fork tube height to 5mm showing above triple clamp
GSX-R600 ('04) 8/04, 10/04 5 lines showing .5 turns out 1.75 turns out 9mm thread showing 2.5 turns out 1.5 turns out
note: set fork tube height to 8mm above top triple clamp, with Dunlop D208 GP-A tires fitted
GSX-R600 ('05) 3/05, 4/05 6 lines showing .75 turns out from full stiff 1.75 turns out from full stiff 10mm thread showing 2.5 turns out from full stiff 1.5 turns out from full stiff
note: set for tube height to 400 above triple clamp

You guys are awesome, thanks. I have checked much of the aboveso am thinking it must be wheel balancing...will re-check the suspension again tomorrow.

Well Forsty been a racer should beable to do this with his eyes closed for a starter . But you can do it as well if you have an understanding of adjusters if not read through this link & you will be on ya way to sorting it

I must remember that when you next tell me your bike ( Old GSXR) handles like shit and I fix it for you FOC and you come back and say it is the best you have ever had it ( Quoted):whocares:

I have checked much of the above so am thinking it must be wheel balancing

The Brake rotor could be out a tiny bit and cause a probably, ya'd need a DTI to check it for a difference around the rotor.

DOnt worry mate, I still completly intend to drag my sorry arse down their some time for you to set it up, even though I appreciate Sensie's input.
