RAM mount

Received my mount the other day (which I won from the website http://www.ramsolutions.co.nz/ ) & so far I have only used it on a short ride to Greenlane.

The main issue I have is that there was no instructions on how to put the Universal cradle together or how to correctly mount the Brake bay mounting base.

Any way, after deciding on the right 'fingers' to use (of which there are 4 x 3 different length fingers) on the cradle I managed to get a very secure fit for my Uniden radio & it didn't budge on the short test ride. Vibration was minimal but it seemed to be less when the arm was mounted vertically.

The whole mount, except the base, can be removed quickly & easily. Just by undoing the wing nut.

The parts supplied for this install were:
RAM-B-UN4U Universal Cradle
RAM-B-238 Dimond Mounting Ball
RAM-B-201 Standard Length Arm
RAM-B-309-1 Clutch/Brake Bay Mounting Base

I am considering getting a camera mount so that I can make videos.....

I obviously have the headset in the helmet, but this review was not about the mounted device:whocares: , but the mount system:yes: .

If you visit the website you will see that there are specific mounts for Radar detectors, Cell phones & even a drink holder:gob:

I must admit JAbez, that in my search for a mounting solution for my radar detector on my ST I looked at RAM. Plenty of advertising; Even met a RAM Rep putting flyers out at Paeroa. Bottom line was even the website looked confusing - too many options confused this Lad.

I agree that the website looks overwhelming - and, fortunately this only a small collection compared with the 5000 odd components available from Ram.

Is this what you ended up going with Shafty? Are the bits as per the pdf file (ST1300)? I thought this mount looked great on your bike... keen to get one myself...

Yes it is Dougie; Thanks to the RamSolutions monthly draw, I was the lucky recipient of a setup for the ST; I liked what I saw, but was hesitant as I was unsure if it would a.) Fit my bike, and b.) whether my skills were up to fitting it!!

I needn't have worried. The kit came with a couple of sets of screws, I guess to suit different models, and fitting was a cinch. I did have a question at one point, and rang the Ram # at 8pm at night, left a message and was called back 10 minutes later - impressive. By then I'd sussed it out.

See photo's below; I couldn't "picture" in my head how it would fit, but as you can see, the base fitting lines up with the hydraulic reservoir mounts, - easy.

How happy am I with it? Well, as otyher threads will attest, the Southern Cross I've just completed with the mount in place, covering 5000 + kms, was not exactly at sedate speeds! It never got in the way, doesn't obscure instruments, never moved, is easy peasy to take off if you want, - I was stoked!

BTW, having the detector with me gave me huge confidence travelling, with other bikes tucking in behind me on several occaisions to "share the advantage"

Thanks for the heads up,Shafty. Great pictures!.....you realise that you can clip on an extra piece to that mount now, to add your GPS in the future?

I haven't had any complaints about the product yet, except perhaps for the lack of instructions. RAM Mounts (USA) have assumed every one in NZ is quite adept with No. 8 fencing wire and consider it an insult to have to include instructions!......Nah, seriously they are easy to fit (once you know what the end result is supposed to look like - plenty of pictures on the website...) OR...... ring me!

I also won a Ram Mounting system with the monthly draw. Fitted my VFR800 perfectly
and would recomend Ram to anyone. Have used Navman & also radar fits no problem.
