We have been living in our place for a year now and for the fricken 3rd or 4th time we have come home to find that ants have in-f%&*en-vaded our house. I am not talking about the odd little ant here or there...no way...little black pools of the bitches all laying their little spawn of satan eggs. Nothing we do seems to get rid of them.

The house is a renter, so it is the landlords issue to sort out, but in the short term, anyone got any ideas on how to get them to run away from me in fear? The wife and I are very clean people, no dishes/food lying around...house dusted and vacuumed weekly, so who the hell knows why the little evil demons want to terrorise us. I am pretty certain they have made themselves nests in the walls and around the foundations. The only thing that has worked in keeping them away from area's is cornflour spread on the ground (who would have thought that an old wives' tale would be true), but obviously this aint practical for the whole house, and is damn messy.

So short of lighting a match throwing it to the ground and walking out of the place with a smile on my dial, how can i get them irradicated?

Antrid, buy it from your supermarket usually, failing that hassle the landlord for a pest guy to spray the house.
Raid also do an edible ant bait that they take back to the nest and then they smell like food so get eaten by others who then smell like food etc. worked for us.

Yeah I know the stuff you mean. Tried all of them, and to no avail.

Robocan

We had an ant problem, but not any more. Keeps mozzies away as well.
And you can take it with you when you move

We have plenty of the little fuckers outside, but they never venture indoors any more

I'd like to second the vote for Robocan... I live near the beach and a slow moving stream which means we get a lot of bugs... No ants/flys or mozzies inside any more, flys poke their nose in and then move on out again... Definitely worth it. Going to sleep at night without being elbowed by the Mrs to get up again and chase down the last few flapping bity bugs is great.

Isn't the answer a bit more obvious than all these things?

Neverwrong.

Available at most supermarkets. Just pour a capful into a small container (I use a coke bottle cap) and place next to the ant trail.
They will carry it to the colony (aren't we in one already?) and kill all the little bastards... Muahahahahaha!!!

Ants are a real pain!! The only thing to do is get the house treated for ants, it costs but works. Your landlord should attend to this but sadly many wont pay the expense. One thing I heard has been very sucessful in a house I used to manage (and had treated for a shocking ant problem) is to find the entry points of the suckers and bait there, they eat the bait and dont go hunting further for food. Bait gets taken back to the nest and fed to the youngsters. Ripcord as someone else has mentioned is very effective if sprayed at every contact point the house makes to the ground/garden/trees or what have you. Good luck! God I hate ants. We used to have cobblestones and could see the displaced sand where they lived.......boiling water..........smells bad, but very satisfying at the same time.
