Hey guys
Just recently got me an RGV150 (loving the smell & sound of it!)
Was just wondering what type/brand of 2 stoke oil i should be buying for it. And whats the best spark plug?
Also what gearbox/clutch fluids should i get. Im pretty sure its due for a good service which i dont mind doing myself.
Also i noticed that after a good run and i park her up she drips a little bit of oil from a long tube at the bottom of the engine - must be an overflow tube or something. Not sure where it goes to because when i was tracing it it came off!! Crap! What do you guys reakon its from?
Any help would be great!
Cheers

I reckon fully synthetic oil, a cheap one is fine, i got mine from the wharehouse. Get irrdium or platinum plugs (whichever one is more expensive) they make a huge different. As for the pipe, a slight dripping of oil is normal have a look for a white plastic bubble looking thing with small plastic pipes exiting from both ends that is where the pipe goes to (i think)

Yep - fully synth for the 2T oil.
For the Gearbox I just did a change on my wife's RG150 and used SAE 80W oil (really thick) but apparently you don't need to be too precious as they are robust little gearboxes.
Which reminds me that I must go and buy a spark plug.....

Just use the factory plug Jono. Not sure if yours uses the same plug as the
watercooled RG , if so B8ES or you can use a BR8EQ (what im currently using) , dont bother with the irdium or platinum.

Ive got 1/2 a dozen at home if ya need one Jamie , i buy a box at a time from work.

Wrong!
I had standard plug when I first got my rg then swapped over to the irdium plugs and it makes a huge difference, it just revs out heaps easier and doesn't get fouled as easily its worth the extra money.

Why do you buy them a box at a time? If i may assume, i assume it is becaue you keep going through them like I did when I used normal plugs. After I swapped to the irdium it never fouled and the bike ran heaps better.

For racing I use Shell Advance Fully Synthetic - $17/L
For normal road riding I use Valvoline 'racing two stroke' - $10/L @ Supercheap Autos.
The main thing is let that motor warm up properly Before you start thrashing it!
If your going through a plug every two weeks, theirs something wrong with you engine setup.
Apparently auto transmission fluid or diesel engine oil can be used in your motorbike gearbox. I've used both with No problems.

Use a fully synthetic 2 stroke oil
Shell out on a decent one, your engine will love you for it..
I use castrol TTS - 28bucks a litre - from super cheap auto or cycletreads..
as for spark plugs you want to use the right one, using different ones may make a difference to the performance, but for instance using an 8 may be good for around town (less likely to fowl) but use it on the open road and it may get so hot it melts your piston...
Your local suzuki dealer has a book saying what plug is right for your bike .

28 dollars a litre, your getting ripped off, this is what I used and it was (around about) $70-$75 for four litres so less than $20 a litre.
the most expensive oil i've seen is castrol 708 or 808 or somthing like that and it was nearly $50 a litre. must've had some gold added to it or something.

Hey Guys.
My RGV150 is just hitting 24,000k's. Should i be getting the piston and or rings done now to prevent something crapping out?
Im pretty sure it hasnt had a rebuild yet.
Also when i park it up after a long run she drips a bit of oil? Not too sure where its coming from as when i was following the tube it came off!
Is there anyone in Aucks with 2 stroke knowledge that can take a quick look at my bike (and a blatt of course!).
I live in east aucks but dont mind if your central or whatever.
If anyone can help out a newbie let me know!!

The answer to that is the engine causing any trouble?
Take the spark plug out and have a look at it, if it is really black then it is running rich, should be a light tan colour (at least that was the way i used to remeber it) you can always talk to someone at the bike shop, they should be able to advise you.
I had an GT250 X7 way back in the early 80s, gave it heaps and never had to do much on it, the occasional service, using a good quality 2 stroke oil was the key:scooter:
