I've always treated those shiny patches of tar seal with caution in summer .Am I being a wimp because I tend to ride around those patches and won't crank it over on them. How much traction do they offer? Can you treat them like any other piece of road?I realise hot road should offer better traction but when you get these big soft patches of tar seal I get the feeling that it would be possible to tear the skin off the top and have a very interesting moment.Anyone gone for a big slide or maybe an off because the road got soft?

In my experience, they tend to 'bog' the tyre down if anything. Be prepared to feel the tyre like it had only 10psi in it. You're right about the 'skin' though, and can make for a very slippery surface.
In the wet - I avoid tar patches like the plague.
Except maybe in a straight line if a little bored when full throttle at almost any speed will make it wheelspin.

No, it has let rip on the odd Gixxer surface as well.

My biggest concern would be going too hot into a blind corner and having to lean over on this type of surface.I would be pushing the front anyway and my gut feeling is that it would offer piss all traction.Worst case scenario would be that the whole lot is so soft that the bike just spits out under me.Am i being paranoid or does everyone go tippy toe when the road melts.

Know the local roads well and be cautious of the ones you aren't familiar with.

easy to say when you've only got 2 roads grandad.
even with your Alzheimer's it's manageable

The only roads you can know are the ones you rode in the past. Any other road is a new road; treat as not familiar :-)

I had to pay as well. Hopefully only in cash, not gravel rash......
Dunno about the Mair brothers though - if they are close on the day, one of them will likely bin trying to outdo the other.

I may have Alzheimers... but at least I don't have Alzheimers!
Where was I? Ahhh yes.
Pushing the front end on melting tar...
It'd probably pay to practice that move somewhere handy to your local hospital?
