I have torn the topend down on my rm250. Does anyone know where I can get the piston circlip and bearing from online? There are no suzuki dealerships in my area.

Hey Lion, there should be the top end bearings and circlips in that box I gave you. If they aren't there let me know and I'll check if they are still sitting in my garage. I'm pretty sure I gave you all the bits I had though.
Was there a pool of oil in the bottom of the crank? Make sure it's not coming through the crank gasket.
A good Suzki dealer near you is in helensville. I think that the are called Bike sport? Anyway talk to Mathew. Or call total motox 4122153 they are cheap for parts.

Hey...Found the circlips and bearing..should of checked in the bottom of the box lol. Nah there was no oil in the crank. I got it all back together, but I found the real problem. There is little to no spark. I am going to try a new plug and lead tomorow after school.

Make suer you get a 7 range one- it sound like its too hot but it is teh proper one. It has a new spark plug cap on it. A new lead might help.

Ok I fixed the spark issue. There was a broken plug lead so I robbed one off the lawnmower. There is a healthy blue spark. Now I am getting it to fire for about 15 seconds, but dies after that. I am thinking the crank seal is fucked as thats about the only thing I havent fixed.
Hey cheese, did the RM ever run since it came back from the bike shop? Maybe the crank bearing seal isn't in properly. I might just replace both crank seals.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

The crank seal has just been done, so it should be fine.
I'd say it's coming out the gasket that runs between the cases.

Ok. I am going to do a leak down test tommorow. Should my powervalves spit out oil when I kick the bike over? I pulled the powervalve cover off, and it is a oily mess inside there. Should I disassemble and clean them up?

Did you use teh old or teh new cylinder? There is meant to be oil in there , but I think that it needs a clean out. What it really needs is a good run.

7th March 2007, 19:11
I used the one that was on the bike when you sold it to me. Was the spare in better condition? The one that was on the bike looked fine.
Ok, so the leak down test showed that there is no leaks in the motor at all. I cleaned the carb up, and it ran for around 15 seconds, but was stuttering. I reset the air screw and idle to factory settings. I think the float valve is fucked. It is also wet fouling the plugs.
Any ideas?
cheers.

Keep running it a few times over and hopefully it will come right.
The cylinder on the bike was ok, but the spare was a new one I just got from the states and was a fair bit better.
I'd clean all teh oil out of the power valves and get it going on a nice hot run.

ok. might put the other cylinder on then and will give it a good run. thanks for the help

Ok well I have put the other cylinder on. It runs nice and strong now, but only for a short period of time. It turns out that the floats are way out of alignment. Should I re align them or just get a new float? The suzuki dealer quoted me $86 for a new float, a little bit steep I thought..

Great to hear that you got the bike sorted. I think that the old cyclinder just needed a good clean up and service.
Hey I never had a problem with the floats, I'd just realign it unless it's got a hole in it.
Oh and check all the pipes off the carbs, I think if one is blockes it will give you the same issue.

Oh and get a price on a flaot form total moto x, I bet they are cheaper.

Ok, I figured I may as well do the crank seals and gaskets. Hey cheese, there is 2 seals that you included in the spares package, are these crank seals?

One is, it's the Mag side one. The one on the gearbox side is brand new.
Still burnign oil? I'd just run it for a few hours and see how it goes. Is it using oil from the gearbox?

Well I just checked the oil by pulling the oil check bolt out and no oil comes out, so I guess it's sucked in oil. It starts if you spray crc down the carb, runs for about 15-30 seconds. The motor stutters and runs like crap. The plugs are wet fouled. I am real close to getting it running properly. Any ideas?

Good to hear!! I had a shitload of fun on that bike.
What was wrong?
I think Baileys in hawera had a second hand clutch basket. You really should replace it or fix it ASAP.

I think it needed a good run like you said. I bought a new plug got it running no sweat. It was real smokey at first, but I think that was all the assembly lube, now it has a nice amount of smoke. I am running 40:1, is this ok?
Do you know of any good 2 stroke tuners in Auckland? It could do with a good tune.
Lion
22nd March 2007, 20:18
Yep I'll sort the clutch out real soon. How much do you reckon they will want for a basket?
cheese
22nd March 2007, 22:05
If you want to get it tuned I'd take it to bikesport in helensville.
40:1 is perfect. you running motul?

Get a new basket, or fix the old one.
The thing with most MX bikes is that they use alloy baskets, they wear where the plates are held and they tend to hold on a bit. You maybe able to find a one out of a road bike that uses a steel one?? I'd take the old basket around some bike wreckers and see what you can find. It would have to an exact match.
Option B is to file out the grooves in the basket. this only works once and is a bit rangi.
