hi all.
i am new to kbers and over the past few days ive been reading up all the threads relevant to 250cc bikes becoz i want to buy a bike and im on my learner licence. from what i have read the cbr's (r) are the way to go. becaus i know nothing about bikes i hav got my uncle to start looking for a bike that fits my preferences privately. He is a yamaha man so this being the case he will put me onto a FZR 250 (he also owns a FZR 750- which i really like (sounds very cool).lol my uncle might be slightly biased, along with my dad so i would just like some more info about these bikes as i havent seen a great deal of info in these forums just the odd mention here and there. Are they reliable, quick enuf for me being pretty much a learner, small enuf for me being only 5'5, 60kg. Top speed, 0-100. etc
thanks.

Ive found my fizzer to be quite good. Im not sure about the top speed. ive never had it at the track haha... but Ive heard they can do 180ish or something. as for reliable.. ive kept mine oiled and stuff and never run into any problems for the 2 or so years ive had it... as for suitablitiy for a learner, I cant say much as its the only bike I rode on the road, but I had previous bike riding experience (used to ride on the dirt roads on the farm I stayed on. in South Africa

If youre looking for more info goto FZR250.com.. theres tons of info on that forum about em. and im sure anyone there would be happy to answer any questions you have.

thanks folcan. Next question- how does it compare to the Cbr, i need some hard evidence so i can convince uncle/dad that the cbr is a good if not better alternative

Good bikes.
Reliable, slightly lighter than a CBR, about the same speed. 180ishkmph, 0-100 in~5.5s.

The major differences are that the tyres are narrower meaning the your tyre choice is pretty limited, and there were a lot less built than CBRs, so parts are harder to find.

Cheaper than a CBR though so...

I havent owned an fzr or cbr but i know that the yamaha power valves are prone to failure
