The organisers of the V8 Supercar race have been told to go back to
the drawing board if they want the race to go ahead in Auckland in
2006.

Three independent commissioners have adjourned a resource consent
hearing on the race, potentially adding months to the process of
gaining consents.

The commissioners say the Auckland City Council and the event
promoters IMG, who applied to host the event, have not consulted well
enough, or provided enough detail on the effects of the race.

They want more details on what alternative sites were considered, the
effects on Victoria Park, local businesses and noise impacts.

I'm still pissed that the WCC let it get away on them. Dickheads.

And where abouts exactly would the WCC let it be raced?

The waterfront, where races had been held for over a decade.

And what about the new bridges that are too narrow for cars? Or the park that's been built where the pits were? Or the Events Centre that's been built in the middle of the track? Or the park in front of the Odlins Building? And that funny looking museum place thingee that might be a bit in the way as well?

Yup, he's good at that, like supporting the "Boy Racer" laws, then I see him boy racing down K road in his black Ferrari.:Pokey:

Hooray! common sense and a kick in the guts for banks as the elections loom.... The left certainly needs it, what with their squabbling and infighting to far.....

I hope the race goes to Te Rakau Drive :D I'd bet that piece of road would be wide enough......

Or even Manukau, as Barry Curtis made some noises about "please let us have it if Johnny doesnt get it.... not that I'm saying he wont and we fully support his bid etc etc"

Banks may be a wank but Christine Fletcher doesn't want the race in Auckland at all.

CHristine Fletcher is only in charge of Auckland City. There's Barry Curtis and Bob Harvey, as well as the North Shore one (who if I recall is anti the idea), to take into acount as well. I'd be quite happy with a race in Waitakere City or Manukau City...
