What a crock of SHIT!!!!! This club really pisses me off big time, alwyas has.
This meeting is a round of the New Zealand championships where riders and sponsors have spent a dam fortune to contest the full championships.
The Auckland motorcycle club have known for months the schedule for this meeting! and the Auckland Motorcycle club is one of the Wealthiest in the country, So Pay people to do the job that the club has contracted themselves to do.
This club is asking for volinteers to put out bales, OR NO MEETING, Now this, pull your heads out of your arse and start meeting your commitments on a professional level.

Hey Joni, as much as I think this post is bullshit, should it not STAY in the General section as well? there are people that go to that section but not this area
Joni

Actually Shaun... no!
People post in GBR because they think people will see it there, and no where else... its the wrong forum, which results in a Mod having to move.
People need to just post in the forum its supposed to be.

GBR is for all motorcyclists, Yes? So is racing if they want to go watch, so, maybe there are some potentuall marshalls in the GBR section
Joni
8th March 2007, 10:00
Then why do we have forums? If everyone is going to be posting where they damn like anyway.
The racing forum is for just that... racing related threads, marshalls when I last checked were at races, therefor it belongs in the racing forum.
Saun please dont argue about this... if you dont like the rules pm Spank me and tell him to change them.

And the last time I checked, Motorcyclist were the ones watching the racing, so it is in the general interests of GBR Forum
Not arguing, just pointing out the fact that I believe as a moderator, you have not looked at the best options for all motorcyclists interests, before moving this thread, and there could be a lot of people standing around at Puke this weekend doing jack shit because the message did not get out there far enough to try and recruit some people to do a much needed job.
Carry on

................. and there could be a lot of people standing around at Puke this weekend doing jack shit because the message did not get out there far enough to try and recruit some people to do a much needed job.
Carry on
There will be a lot of people standing around when they can help because in my experience the AMCC marshall recruitment drive is as follows:
Step 1. E-mail all current AMCC marshalls telling them bout the event usually a coupla weeks before. There is also this newsletter which randomly appears in your post box.
Step 2. Ask them if they know anyone who would like to be a marshall - and don't forget to tell these potential marshalls bout the awesome free water and a fruit and sandwich - yummy!! Oh and riders/drivers and only riders/drivers of the cars/bikes the marshalls came in get a $10 petrol voucher.
They're just plain lucky that a charitable site like kiwibiker exists and they can post here.
P.S: The amount of politics that exist among the management of the club, put in the most polite manner possible, IS SICKENING!!!

Hi there
I agree with what you have said above, I for one, never read posts in the racing section (only becuase I cant race :)) but as someone that volunteers to help others out a lot, it caught my eye.
I think it should of stayed in the General Section?
Just my thoughts

Where are you coming from - somone might be able to give you a lift.
As far as paying marshalls, there are usually petrol vouchers. The racers complain if the entry fees go up, even though most of it goes to the Puke goat track. Can't have it both ways.

Shaun, you're dead right. Recall the MNZ AGM. "All prizemoney will be forgone by competitors to help out clubs with advertising etc..., so they don't go into financial hardship." Yes they can pay for flaggies. They've just saved between $5000-$7500 a meeting!! And, it's still the competitors that get told they could be denied a round!! Not good!!:nono:

Anyone heard the phrase bite the hand that feeds you??
Piss enough people off and you find yourself having to BEG for marshalls
Perhaps Upper management at AMCC needs to look inwards with honesty and wonder why this situation has been allowed to happen

Hi ya Frosty.
As ya know, Chris Lawrance and I ran the two day Road Race Spectacular at the Taupo track on the weekend of Dec. 30/31st 2006.
We charged the lowest entry (as far as I know) for a two day meeting, and even supplied free beers and a BBQ on two nights!!!
We even had two ambulances on the Sunday. :doctor:
We also had 57 friggen trophies made and spot prizes, which combined to the total value of $3000!
Chris and I paid $50-80 per marshall/per day and supplied them with full lunches/drinks and invited them to the BBQ with free beers also.:shit:
Chris and I underwrote the entire meeting to the tune of $18,000. Thankfully we had a good spectator turnout to help pay for the day.
Now, what I want to know is, if National Road Race meeting entry fees are considerably higher than what we charged, then why can't they pay for bloody marshalls??
With no prizemoney to pay out now, who's making money?

So to make sure I have this right, AMCC are the organisers of these events?
Who would be a contact there to put a proposal in for all safety marshalls, flaggies and paramedics if required?
I think paying volunteers between $50 and $80 each is crazy, it becomes and expectation.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, RSQKRU would be interested next season.

Why pay the volunteers? When I was a marshall:
1) I got into the event for free
2) I got to be 3 metres from the action - better than any grandstand
3) I got to walk around the pits at no extra charge
4) I got a free lunch
I never expected any financial re-imbursement for my services - I had fun doing it! As long as the chiefs up the top looked after us with food, drinks and the like we never complained!

It's about the fact that AMCC are such a disorganised bunch of........can't say anything nice so......

Two days out from the final of the "NATIONALS" and there is a threat to pull the plug!
I am stunned after all the time and money the racers and crews have puit in that such a fliipant remark can be made. I trust someone has advised the TV and the Aussie competitors that they may be wasting their time heading here for the weekend.
I am absolutely gobsmacked. Nah Im friggin speechless......and that dont happen often

Bullshit if its a national meeting why dont they have the marshells sorted you dont see this happening for moto gp or SBK they plan ahead
Its pretty simple to organise these marshells for 1 weekend
Oh any marshells reading Im not complaining I am grateful for the work you guys do you dont get thanked as much as you should
I just hink that a NATIONAL road race meeting shouldnt be this well disorganised
Ok red headed upset rant is over for now

But to make sure I have this right in my own head??
Is the AMCC responsible for every event in the National Championship calender, or is it up to each club that hosts a round?
Is there a governing body that overseas the entire championship?
The reason I ask is that I want to put a proposal forward for our Rescue Crew to be the safety crew at all the events.
I dont want to go to just one club and then another and so on!!
What we want to achieve is for the racers to do what they do best - RACE, and nothing more. They dont need to be involved with the politics in regards to safety.
Cheers Scott

Scott, each club does their own organising of flag marshalls.
Your plan to provide 'professional, trained, competent marshalls' is exactly what we need for our series. Please contact MNZ directly for the next season of racing.
As some will tell you, we've had some diabolical decisions made with regards to 'observations' by untrained marshalls.
We the riders, need to feel reassured that we will be protected by the experienced, trained marshalls at the events we race at. Who wants to be lying on the ground around a blind corner with marshalls just looking at you and not signalling the oncoming riders? Or even to the point that if your bike/sidecar is lying onto of you on fire, that it will be put out quick smart by trained marshalls, preventing undue risk to life or property! Even having marshalls wearing protected clothing is a bonus!

He would be the best man to contact for this I believe, he actually gets stuff done! and is a great guy.

And has been pretty well made public in the AMCC newsletter that Cris Costello (AMCC club president) and I dont get along
BUT i am in agreement with him on ONE front.
All this bitching and whinging on an internet forum is gonna achieve --NOTHING
Folks I agree that AMCC race meetings have become a shambles-
SO what are YOU gonna do about it??
How many of us are on the executive or the race committee or down trackside making it all happen??
One guy on heres proposing a professional marshal service --good onya dude.
The thing is that AMCC has been kept running by a small group of dedicated motorcyclists --they have been doing it for a LOT of years and I believe they are well sick and tired of it.
SO how about those of ya with a bit of spare time step up to the plate -I think its only a couple of months till they elect a new comittee

So.. you are a financial member right? If not, then you don't have any say in the club. If so, it is time to ante up and put your money where your mouth is and get involved in the organisation and fix it. AGM is not to far away, and I am sure some good new ideas on the committee would be apprecated.

While on the subject, just about every year I have been to the nationals at Puke, at the end of practice there is usually a call for volunteers to fill wool sacks full of milk bottles for a discount on tickets.
Another thing, is there to be any delays this year due to the track still being sealed while people are in the pits waiting to practice?
Sorry, my rant is over, and good luck with the event, hope it runs smooth and there are no accidents.
good luck to all riders.

I'm in Welly so couldn't do this one but have volounteered for the VMCC winter series. The way I see it is that It will teach me what goes on at a race event so when I get a race bike I will be ready to go out there.
As well as that I'll get to meet and hit the piss with a heap of racers.
Most racers will want there to be sufficient marshals on the day so will probably have no problems giving people a ride to the track or if you have your own transport a lot of clubs pay gas.
