Oil from the airbox

Tonight I noticed a small trail of oil from drips out of the air box. It was a small trail - maybe a drop or two on the hot gearbox.

No time to look at it till the weekend. I'm guessing the filter needs cleaning/ changing?

Any suggestions?

More likely rings are getting a little blow, sending compression to sump from where breather is routing oil haze to airbox.

You haven't over filled the engine in your last oil change? The engine breather pipe is routed into the airbox on a few bikes.

A lot of bikes have a bit of oily air pumping up the breather.
Also if the bikes fallen on its side oil can run up the breather into the airbox.
If its bad enough to have oil drips leaking out I'd suggest giving the airbox a wipe out--even a wash out ---Check the condition of the breather filter-its in the airbox at the end of the breather pipe --I bet its soaked in oil

Speaking of breather filters, the breather filter material in the airbox in my RF is pretty naf. The filter material seems to be brittle and easily damaged. Is this a common material that I can buy and fit into the gap as its kind of rectangular, or is it best to pay the exhorbitant prices for genuine Suzuki stuff?

Could you use mx air filter foam cut to shape? How big do you need, I have some small bits I can't use.

Yeah, it would work, although often the breather filter is a bit coarser so it catches the erl without blocking up, and so the excess erl can drain back down the hose.
Riffer - you can use any foam, as long as it's plastic (polyeurethane or whatever) rather than the old-fashioned rubber (latex) foam.

Is it advisable to clean out the air filter on ya bike?, I have a K&N filter in my hyper charger that is pretty oily & dirty, can I clean that, if so in what solution or do I have to replace it?

K&N produce cleaning kits with all the proper cleaning solutions in them.

However I'm sure somebody can tell you how to do it on the cheap.

Warehouse degreaser $14.95 for 5 litres.

Wash out filter, rinse and dry.

Foam filter oil is available in aerosol cans. Else use engine or gear oil and squeeze out excess.
